All-Stars Preo-op diet thread
I start my pre-op diet on Monday and thought it would be nice for us to have a tread where we can talk about our pre-ops if we have them. I have to do 4 Protein shakes a day. 64oz Fluid and unlimited non starchy veggies. I can also choose 6 of the following - v8, oatmeal/cream of wheat, low fat yogurt with no fruit, no sugar added applesauce and sugar free pudding. My plan is to make a huge pot of veggie Soup tomorrow to eat as lunch/dinner, also planning salads, sauteed veggies and fresh veggies in a plain greek yogurt dip (hidden valley ranch). I figure the oatmeal and cream of wheat will do me for Breakfast along with a Protein shake when I get up. I love sugar free Popsicles and can see myself eating lots of them! I am worried about doing it for 2 weeks, worried about coming up with different ideas and such, but am thankful my pre-op does have some variety available!! How about anyone else?

6 month labs are back and some values are low
You might want to consider a vitamin made for bariatric patients. Your nutritionist should address the labs if not your doctor.

Approved BCBSIL
yes, thats all I did! Mine did it on a verbal but apparently there is an approval number you can get. You can also ask for a fax copy of your letter (not sure if they will but worth a try). I called first time and said was it received then called the next day to ask where I was on my chiropractic max for the year and oh by the way is there any response on my surgery?
-
Approved BCBSIL
all I can say is CALL CALL CALL! Call and see if received because then they will route for review quicker and check on approval because the letter takes 10 plus days (still don't have mine, approved a week ago Wednesday).

Employers and Surgery
I have 4 days off - but I am taking unpaid FMLA. My Doctor says 4 weeks off and he may consider 2 weeks because I work from home. I am pretty sure I will take as much as he will give, we will just have to be frugal. My disability kicks in after 21 days so I will have 4 days paid at the beginning and a week paid 60% at the end, 2 weeks 1 day unpaid in the middle.

6 month diet requirement
best of luck - that would be AWESOME!

Anyone Else in August?
I don't have a time yet either so I don't think it's weird! I love the moon idea!! My preop is 3 days before. My Dr requires BC to be stopped 1 month before - BIG letters in the instructions and my NUT told me they have canceled surgeries because of it so you may want to call!!!
-
Anyone heard of this requirement?
I have heard of that. Not sure if it can be waived. Since only one person mentioned it I would call back and ask specifically!
-
Mirena (or other IUD) and VSG
My surgeon requires all BC stopped 1 month prior to surgery, including removing IUD/Mirena

I got my date (FINALLY!)

The bottom just fell out :(
Are you sure your insurance will not cover it? Also, keep checking because I have known a few who have found out at the last minute that their insurance began to cover it. Mine has only covered it for a year.

study by Dr in California of 5 year patients?
I have seen (maybe in the pages attached) where they talk about a revision of VSG. But if you are diligent about changing your lifestyle you shouldn't stretch your stomach out. I wouldn't think overeating a time or two a year would stretch it too much.

Spouse or Sig other
My husband is a little over weight, his BMI is 35 but I LOVE that he isn't skinny. When I was skinny before I loved feeling petite next to him, not just in height (a foot difference). I got to an 8-10 before and I was still considered overweight but it was a good weight for me. I hope that is where the sleeve takes me. I've thought about this alot, I don't think I could be with a guy who likes me skinny and not fat too. After all, my weight is part of me, it has shaped me and my life. I have never cared for vain people so I wouldn't want to be in a relationship with one.

looking forward to my sleeve!!!
Congrats on your date! Make sure to click on "August All-stars" in my signature and add yourself to the surgery date list!! August is filling up - lots of sleeve buddies!
