  1. Here is a new study I came across and it does say it is comparable to RNY - somewhere in there.... http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/matrix/bt_supp0511/index.php?startid=3#/10

  4. I knew it was pretty recently! I know one lady who wanted the sleeve and found out like a week before having lapband that her insurance started covering sleeve! How lucky for her!
  5. I should be submitted this week - today or tomorrow. Apparently the insurance cooridinator for my program has a bunch - thinking it must be from the change of 3 to 6 months. So anxious!!
  6. Make sure to check in below in the 2011 August thread! We have a list of surgery dates!
  7. Yes I agree!! Remember it is summer and lots of people are taking vacations so things can move a little slower than normal - but the squeaky wheel gets the oil!! I should have been submitted today so I will be calling starting tomorrow until I get approval!!
  8. I dropped off my last visit paperwork to my insurance coordinator around 1pm - hoping she submitted today. She did tell me BCBSIL is taking 30 days but us BCBSIL employees are super persistent and are getting approved quicker - I said heck yeah I was going to be calling every day! Moral of the story - call your insurance!! LOL
  9. That gives me hope - my Dr uses a 40.
  10. I am going through the same thing with my mom! I actually told her months ago and now that my 6 months of medically supervised diet is done and I am close to getting a surgery date she starts saying the same things! I explained to her the sleeve is a tool to help me KEEP the weight off. I lost 75 lbs on WW a few years ago and was able to keep 70% off for about 3 years and then gained and gained until I was 40 lbs heavier than before. So I KNOW I can do it - I just need a tool to help me keep it off. I explained that to her also. When she started in again I told her my decision wasn't up for discussion and that I would answer any questions she has but she is not talking me out of it. I explained I have been seeing my Dr for 6 months as well as a nutritionist and social worker and my surgeon once. I told her a team of people approved me for this surgery and my decision is firm. Hope my experience can help you!
  11. Welcome Jimmy! I am hoping for mid-August myself, my last supervised diet visit is tomorrow! Make sure and stop by the 2011 forum and post in the August thread!!
  12. Remember we have alot more regulation in the US and ways of seeing how many deaths have happened with certain procedures - I don't believe there is that oversight in Mexico and many other countries. I don't know if I can believe your statement - maybe there are more REPORTED deaths in the US but how many happen in Mexico that are not documented by any authority? We only hear by rumor.
  13. I have a few questions I know for sure like can I have broth and what about decaf diet soda flat? These are two things not listed as fluids on my list. Was there anything you would ask or wished you would have asked?
  14. Ok just found a study that suggests some regain after 5 years. This is a 2011 report. They are saying 43% failure after 5 years. They do suggest looking at similar numbers for other procedures - wonder what the rate is for RNY? http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/matrix/bt_supp0511/index.php?startid=3#/8
  15. I thought this article was good - see the last paragraph about size http://bariatrictimes.com/2010/02/18/the-history-of-sleeve-gastrectomy/
  16. Thanks - I have dug around and wasn't able to find anything either - I just wonder if this Dr is stuck on RNY although he said he has Labband patients as well - really frustrated when I hear they negativity from a Dr.
  17. I am listening to a radio show and there is a Dr Freedman (in Alabama I believe) on the show who says he doesn't do the sleeve because he has a problem with it - says there is a study by a Dr in California who recently did a CT study of his 5 year sleeve patients and it show their stomach was completely stretched out. This Dr Freedman said he doesn't do the sleeve because of the risk of regain and sites this study. Does anyone know about this study or can you find any info on it??
  18. Loooove the All-Stars!!
  19. I am hoping for the second week in August. Make sure to stop by the 2011 forum and post in August!
  20. I just know one DS'er and she was the all at once one.
  21. Jens, My insurance is the same - 6 visits in 6 calendar months so really 5 months. I went to the orientation 1/7 and sure wish I had visited my Dr that month instead of waiting til February! Wishes, No date yet, just hoping for the second week in July!
  22. My program allows us to switch to the petites after a month - I agree the chewables are nasty.
  23. Mine is using a 40 and he is calling it the middle size. I had thought the range was 32-40 so that surprised me.
