  1. Are you tracking your food? You may want to use an online tracker to track your eating and exercise. That way, if you have good losses one week you'll know what you did to accomplish it. Good luck!
  2. Fantastic! Congrats to her! I got on my scale this morning at the one-week mark and it said I'd lost 18 lbs. I didn't believe that was possible but I guess it is . . . here I go to update my ticker!
  3. $17K for one month of COBRA sounds ridiculous, are you sure that's what it says? Are you sure it's not $1700?
  4. Dang my doctor/nutritionist is strict. 3 days clears . . . 1 month 'modified solids' (mostly full liquids but he includes cottage cheese, soft cheese, refried beans). Then another 1 month purees where I can add in meat and some soft veggies and pureed fruit. Then I move into regular solid foods but certain things don't get introduced until later (like raw veggies 3-4 months out, etc.).
  5. I can have strained cream Soups right now and I decided a local restaurant's chicken tortilla Soup (without the tortilla strips) would be really yummy. It's a cream-based soup so it's thick & rich, but it's a little spicy. I was worried about the spiciness on my new sleeve so I combined the cup my husband bought me with a can of cream of chicken soup and a can of milk (now I've got the soup coming out my ears, luckily the husband is good at batting cleanup!). Anyway, it tasted pretty good and the flavor was still there - but I REALLY wanted to eat it 'fully leaded' with all the spice. Theoretically would spicy food be bad for my sleeve this early, or is it just a matter of whether I could tolerate it or not? Frankly I think my cottage cheese would be tastier with a dash of Frank's hot sauce and I would also like to spice up some of my cream soups. Anyone 'been there, done that' or have any advice? I'm definitely going to want to enjoy buffalo-style chicken breast (of course not breaded/fried) when I'm cleared for real food and I think I might just cry if I'm not able to tolerate the spicy stuff anymore.
  6. Great job! I'm also a little nervous about going out with work friends, we usually go to a Mexican restaurant and I know it's going to kill me to avoid the chips/salsa. However, I know I can have refried beans with a drizzle of queso and I'm looking forward to that.
  7. I pretty much got the same nutrition guidelines as the RNYs from my surgeon. I'm hoping, though, at my first month follow-up visit that he clears me for 'real' food sooner than is on my schedule. I think I can have corn beginning month 3.
  8. I might consider trying this. I could drink decaf with milk all day long in lieu of nasty protein drinks. I'm already sick of 'em!
  9. I'm just at the beginning stages of my weight loss but based upon my build, I definitely anticipate this being an issue for me as well. I don't know that I'd be able to deal with a tummy tuck, I just don't like surgery in general. I don't have any aspirations of parading around in a skimpy bikini - for me, I just want to be comfortable in my own skin. I'm sure I'll eventually keep the Spanx people in business!
  10. I've tried to do lots of walking to keep my mind off food. So far it's working and I know it's good for my weight loss and recovery!
  11. Congrats! I am hoping to eventually stick to the weekly weigh-ins but right now I can't help but jump on the scale every morning. I hope I can report a loss like that in the same length of time!!
  12. I don't think it's a good idea this early out, you're still healing. My doc recommends at least 3-6 months before alcohol. There can also be detrimental impact to your liver as it's working overtime due to rapid weight loss.
  13. What are your foods on your stage 2 list? I only did clear liquids for the day of surgery and two days following; since Saturday I've been on full liquids (which on my program includes cottage cheese, refried beans, etc.). I haven't had any issues at all. Just measure measure measure and eat SLOW!!
  14. I had my surgery last Weds and did a clear liquid diet most of the day before. I was really hungry that night before and was a little mopey, but as soon as I got out of surgery and was alert, I definitely did NOT feel hungry. food will be the last thing on your mind during your hospital stay and likely the few days after you get home. I won't lie, it's been tough to stick to the full liquids diet (dang but I want to chew something!) but I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. When I have gotten frustrated I have gone for a walk, picked up a book or jumped on the laptop. Good luck to you, you'll do great!
  15. Ugh I am dreading this. I'm lucky too that I have a TON of hair so hopefully it won't be too big of an issue for me.
  16. Good luck to both of you! The time will fly by. My mom was banded last October and as I started to see her losing weight I decided I wanted WLS too. I originally wanted the band but based upon my medical history of colitis my doc recommended the sleeve. I am only 6 days out but best decision I ever made!
  17. Where is your large incision? Others have posted that it is on their left side, but mine is on my right. ?? I'm almost a week out and the only discomfort I'm having right now from my incisions is ITCHING!!
  18. Great idea to go trying on clothes at Goodwill! I can't wait to go do that. I've already noticed how much more energy I have and I'm only 6 days out. It's amazing how much eating cruddy food in mass quantities can drag your body down.
  19. DallasMom, you definitely need to be taking vitamins. There's another thread in this forum that talks about what different people take - but basically you'll need a multivitamin (some docs recommend more than 1 a day) and calcium supplement daily, and B12 once weekly. My doc also wants me to take B1 once weekly. If your multivitamin doesn't have iron then I'm to take an iron supplement as well.
  20. From what I've read here I don't know if there's a lot you can do to avoid the sagging skin if you're prone to it. I'll let the veterans post though based upon their own experiences!
  21. 60 lbs in a little over 3 months is AWESOME! Enjoy the cruise and don't worry about the stall. You'll be back on track before you know it!
  22. OMG, when I saw Dr. Nick I immediately thought of the crackpot doctor from the Simpsons! I'm SURE your Dr. Nick is a much better practitioner.
  23. Indymom replied to LissaD's topic in Purée (stage 2)
It's weird how everyone's food lists and definitions are different, though. My first month is "modified solids/full liquids" but my nut includes refried beans, soft cheese, cottage cheese (along with the normal things like pudding, yogurt, strained soups, etc.). Right now I'm loving refried beans sprinkled with a little cheese and I'm only 6 days out.
  24. I'm only on day 6 and I am already sick of protein drinks. Once I can add meats in (month 2 during purees I can add in chicken, turkey, tuna) I will be doing everything I can to get all my protein from food.
