September Bandsters
I finally got my date yesterday and am joining the Sept. Bandsters!! Scheduled for the 14th so far. I haven't heard anything yet about my shrinking liver diet. Not sure if it is 1or 2 weeks or if I have one. It has been such a long process sometimes thinking it wasn't going to happen at all. Now I can actually start getting the different foods together that I will need after surgery. Basically finding a decent tasting protein drink that can be mixed with different fruits to keep it interesting. Is anyone else getting there shopping lists together so we can share some thoughts on foods to eat (drink). Think I will start practicing eating V E R Y S L O W L Y. That won't be quite as hard as not being able to drink with meals. I drink about 3 glasses of water every time I eat . Good Luck to The Sept Bandsters Group

Pills after surgery
Thank you I definitely will check it out. I'm so disappointed talked to my MD today and he can't get me in until Sept. This has been such a long process !

Pills after surgery
Finally had my Endoscopy today. Hoping to get a surgery date by the end of the week. My question is how do you deal with large pills after surgery. I was told to take Tums in place of Calcium pills but I have a prescription pill that is about the size of the Calcium tablets and what about fish supplements mine are huge! If anyone has had similar problems I would appreciate your input. Thanks

You look fantastic ! That's my big concern...what if when I lose the weight I still have to stay covered because of excess skin. My insurance won't pay and I can't afford it. So happy for you. You are doing great and look super.

Too bad he's picking on his sister but better her than you ! Good luck tomorrow quote name='Amy1706' timestamp='1312757383' post='1649604'] Ok Ladies I have sice emailed with that guy and I asked him his problem and why he was being sooo hateful and I have fiured out that he has a crush on me and he likes bigger women who self esteem is low.... a bit of a control freak I think...he also was recently put on medication for Anger issues and his sister posted something on facebook that makes me think he has moved on to being mean to her sice he can't get a rise out of me makes me feel bad for her even though I am glad I am not his punching bag...... My new dr appointment is tomorrow I got my fishing weights out today....yes I did because even though I have been eating like a true cow I have only gained 2 lbs now if I wanted to lose weight I gain more then that you know what I mean I think my body is at a comfy weight I am uncomfortable in my own skin when I look in the mirror I still see a thin me but when I put on my cloths or in photos it is way different! Ggrrrrrrrrrrrr.................. I have also noticed since I have gained all this weight my feet are all jacked up my heels are cracked and dry they are nasty so I have been giving myself pedicures and no matter how much dead skin I get off they are still cracked so I started researching it and I found that I could use a fine Micro-plane cheese grater and that does the trick you just have to be careful not to take to much off like I did now my feel are super smooth and soft and hurt!!!! so it works great just don't go crazy with it like I did!

Medications
Since after surgery we have to take very little bites and food must be well chewed before swallowing, how do we get large pills down? Some of my medications are very large, like calcium and fish oil, to mention a couple. My prescription meds aren't bad but I don't want to give up my supplements because after the surgery I think they will be needed more than ever. Anybody have this problem or know how to handle it? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Utter Shock
Your soooo lucky I am hoping to be an Aug. bandster too. Actually I was hoping to be a July no wait a June bandster. I'm done with pretty much everything but things seem to keep getting postponed . Good luck on your journey and hopefully I won't be far behind !!

Struggling
It's great that you already started a pre-op diet. I don't have my date yet either but unlike you I have been eating like I will never eat again. Once I have to start the pre-op I will be in shock but I can't wait to get going. Good luck !!!

Ugh not another band is a "tool" person
"I can with absolute certainty that even when I was doing Protein drinks for meals and following a very strict diet, I was very hungry. So yes I will say that this "tool" has not done anything for me. People can criticize all they want but if the only difference I feel from the band has been reflux how can anyone say this is a tool for me?" I don't think it is for you! If it is making you sick and your not losing weight why don't you have it removed instead of complaining and making your life miserable.

i am so tired of explaining to people
You have nothing to feel sad about, you are doing fantastic and those people obviously have no idea what the band is. It is a tool not a miracle ! Did they think the weight would all be gone soon after surgery? You need to stay around positive people not ones who will bring you down. You need to think about yourself only now not what people are thinking about you. I actually only told one person about getting my surgery. I don't have a date yet but I'm sure I will have to tell those closest to me soon. Just not sure of the outcome. I have MS and my husband is not real happy about me having surgery of any kind so this is not a favorable thing for me to be doing.

I'm with you about that. Surgery for weight loss is not the easy way out, it is just the only way out for a lot of people. People act like you have the surgery and POOF your thin (that would be nice) it is a hard life long battle, but people who have never had a weight problem just don't get it. It was perfect one day when I was told to just watch what I eat #%# .She was a heavy smoker so that gave me a perfect opening when I started the whole story on her just don't smoke, don't buy cigarettes. I have to eat and buy food and prepare food everyday. You never HAVE to buy cigarettes or be around cigarettes or have to smoke to stay alive. SUCCESS SHE HAS NEVER SAID ANOTHER WORD ! Easy way out my a$$.

NO Pre-Op 2 Week Diet & Protein Shakes
It might not be advised but very few if any don't have there pig-out time before surgery. It is almost a given. My only problem is figuring out and writing down the most important foods that I need to have so I get them in

NO Pre-Op 2 Week Diet & Protein Shakes
That's good to know that they are OK mixed with Water, a drink fast and easy is always a plus. I meant to ask where you get the nectar powder from. Can you get them at Wal*Mart or Shop Rite or does it need to be a health food store. So nice you have a date and it's very close GOOD LUCK!

Amy, He says he doesn't think I need to lose weight and because of the MS he is afraid of me having the surgery. I have had several surgeries before without a problem. Once I finally get a date then I will tell him that I have done all the requirements and am going thru with it hopefully with your blessings. I know it is going to be a long process and I am so anxious to just get started.

NO Pre-Op 2 Week Diet & Protein Shakes
I just asked I think it was yesterday about the 2 week pre-op diet. Most Drs I think do require it but then you hear about a few who have nothing more than the typical fast before any surgery. Well good luck with everything and welcome to the board !

I haven't told anyone my plans but my sister-in-law who had gastric years ago and I knew she would understand. I mentioned a few months back that I was thinking about it and got nothing but negativity. After that I haven't said anything about it to any one so they all just figure it was another weight loss plan that faded. My husband was really against it, I'm obviously going to have to tell him but not till it's over.

Eating like it's going out of style
Good Luck tomorrow. I wonder why some MDs put you on a 2 week liquid and some don't. They say it has something to do with making your liver smaller. I guess it depends on whether your MD can work around a bigger liver ! Best of luck in the AM. Keep us posted.

Good Luck and keep us pre-opers up to date

Eating like it's going out of style
Sounds like me but I'm really hoping I can do my 2 week pre-op. I really am afraid for my last meal. Are you doing it longer than 2 weeks because you wanted to (if so I give you credit) or is that the way your Doc. says to? I just wish he would give me a date so I know what kind of time-line I'm working with. The endoscopy is what is holding things up I can't seem to get an appoint. FYI one of my Daughters name is Erin, just a different spelling.

Weights in my pockets, shoes left on, my cane still in my hand and my jacket on which was a little hard to get away with since it was 96* out, and a full stomach after a very large lunch! So different than a regular DR visit when you would like to be stripped down and have an empty stomach! Oh well a girl has to do what a girl has to do. Good Luck !

Just got a date ! So excited !
