  1. OMG ! I think I'm having a heart attack. I haven't even had my first fill yet and I just experienced the horrific feeling that I have heard so much about. I have been allowed to eat regular food since Sat. I have 2 protein shakes and 1 meal and so far no problem my opening is still open quite a bit (or so I thought). Today I heated up some left over chicken and broccoli and had 1 piece of each and thought I would die. Obviously I didn't chew it enough but at this point I thought I was doing my constant chewing as a practice for my first fill WRONG. I have been dry heaving and just bringing up foam for the last 3 hours. If anyone knows how to hurry this up I would appreciate the help !!! I am going to start chewing water so as to be positive this never happens again. Please everyone chew chew and chew again little pieces. Take it from my stupidity so you don't have to go thru this. I wonder how long this lasts....... My Md isn't in
  2. I was banded on the 14th and still have the shoulder pain. Any one know how long that lasts? I never have used any of the pain meds since leaving hosp only pain I've really had is the Left shoulder and at times it won't let up !Never had the diarrhea either my problem is not going much at all. Isn't it amazing how so many people can have the same surgery yet have such different experiences?
  3. Congratulation with this new part of your life. You have done so good already ! 36 lbs down!! Just be prepared for the gas pains and possible weight gain of a few pounds. That is all typical and not to discourage you. GOOD LUCK
  4. OH No Tomato soup was the one receipe I wanted to make it is with yogurt.
  5. When was your surgery? Mine was the 14th of Sept and I'm still about 4 months !
  6. I actually get a sharp pain in my left shoulder sometimes when drinking. Think maybe I'm drinking to fast, I'm slowing down but how slow can you drink water? I had surgery on Sept 12th. My MD says I can start solids on Oct. 8th so I guess pureed is OK now. I was just there but forgot to ask and the're gone now for the weekend. I got this great book for my Kindle and am getting anxious to try some recipes but want to be sure I don't screw anything up. In the book this woman had the Lap Band in 2003 and explains every recipe for what surgery you had. Informative book and in the book she starts the pureed at 1 week but has quite a few that are not recommended for bandsters till week 4. Any one tried different foods yet? The book is Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery I noticed a few others mentioned on here too. It's so nice that people are realizing how many are having this type of surgery and are helping us make it easier for us to travel this Fantastic, Whirlwind of a Journey on our way to a New Healthy Lifestyle.
  7. 8 lbs is great congratulations !! I was done on the 14th as well and I had to go to my MD today and am only down 3, I was hoping for a bigger number.
  8. Welcome I was banded on the 14 th so I guess we can go on this wild ride together.
  9. Glad you mentioned the card. I have never heard of it and am going to the MD tomorrow and I will ask him then. Didn't get it with my initial packet or at the hospital nor did my MD mention it. IT was funny that I just read this because I was just mentioning the other day that I wish they gave you something to be able to get cheaper rates or allow you to order from the kids menu. Thanks again!
  10. OK here I go ! I had no pre-op diet so no fast weight loss. I am one week out of surgery and am not hungry. I have so many questions to ask my MD on my first visit. Would like to get one answer here now though if possible. They all say that the band has no fill at surgery so what is making me not hungry? I don't think I will have much in the line of weight loss because even thou I'm getting in the Protein I'm only getting a total of maybe 580-700 calories a day. I do know that your body will not lose if it thinks your starving. Does anyone have some good examples of what they have lost if anything because I also know some have gained? Am I not hungry because it is all in my head and because I had the surgery I'm having a placebo effect? I hope not because that won't last till my first fill in a month. Please help
  11. My doc says no caffeine and I had my surgery on the 14th. I never drank coffee for the caffeine kick because I never got it but just didn't like the taste of straight decaf. so I always drank 1/2 decaf 1/2 caffeine . Luckily since the surgery my taste buds must have changed because I actually enjoy straight decaf as long as it is from Dunkin Donuts. I am having terrible with drawl thou because of no caffeine and no artificial sweeteners from my diet coke. As of today my headache is there but not too bad. So glad to get those things out of my system I have been trying for years and couldn't do it amazing what you can do when forced !
  12. Thanks to all. I was given all the info about what I should be drinking , when and how much. Before surgery I got everything in and knew EXACTLY what I should do. It just seems that when I got home I went brain-dead ! I know I'm not drinking as much as I should but am going to try an increase all liquids. What is the amount of liquids at a meal such as broth do you drink at one sitting?
  13. I understand how you feel. I was banded on Wed. and feel sort of lost myself. Besides the surgery my foot and ankle are fractured and I have Multiple Sclerosis. I'm not sure what I was expecting but I just feel confused about what to do and eat. I have tons of information to read but I don't get all of it. I am supposed to drink up to 64 ozs a day but I'm also supposed to drink slow....How do I get that much down drinking slow with 30 min in between? I thought liquids went right down so whats the problem with drinking normal? I think once I can start walking again and be able to get back to my semi-normal life I won't feel so low. I would appreciate any of your daily menus from day 3 on just to help me get started because I'm not thinking real clear on my own right now. Really hard to explain. I have no pain and actually besides the one gas pain that is hanging around my left shoulder and very little tenderness depending on how I have to move because of my foot I wouldn't even know I had it done. Any help on meals would be appreciated.
  14. My surgery is the 14th as well with a 2 day stay. Didn't have to do the clear liquids just nothing after midnight. I have to be at the hospital 9:20 with an 11:20 surgery. Strange times!? Good luck. September Bandsters are moving right along.
  15. Glad I'm not the only one with second thoughts. I have been so desperate to have this done for over 8 months and now that it is here I am getting so nervous. I know this is what I want so I wish I could get my heart to agree with my mind. I need this and want it so bad but am really getting scared.
  16. Only 2 more days to go !!! Nervous, scared and anxious to mention a few of my feelings. I had no pre-op diet so that in itself will be a shock my first few days. I promised myself I was going to start cutting back on my own but everyday it seemed there was something I needed/wanted before it was too late and I couldn't ever have it again. That is the same way of thinking that got me in this position to begin with. I always had that last supper syndrome. I have bought all the necessary liquid foods I need for when I come home and am fully prepared and motivated to give this my all. The fact that my foot and ankle are broken is going to hold me back from exercising as soon as I would like but I don't want to rush it. I have to take it all slow so I don't throw myself into an MS exacerbation
  17. Hi congratulations! Why are you both having to do the injections of Lovenox? I hadn't heard of anyone doing them before. I know that they are for blood clots but was it because of problems that you had pre-surgery or just a precaution?
  18. I love reading all of the daily adventures. This site gives us so much hope for our much healthier futures while making it easier by learning from every ones personal experiences. My date is Sept. 14th hard to believe it's only about a week away seems like it has been such a long process. I have no pre-op diet so I can't really relate to that process, but I think I will start to cut way back and drink a protein shake or two a day so I won't have such a shock after surgery. Good luck to all the Sept. Bandsters.
  19. I was not told about the no caffeine ! : > ( Did your doc say the reason for that? I don't have a pre-op diet but am going to just try the different protein shakes so I'm prepared after my surgery on the 14th. But what is with the no caffeine that is a very difficult task for me much harder than not eating
  20. Thank you for your good wishes ! They had a cancellation for the afternoon that I could have taken but my ride could only go in the morning. IT might not be a pretty site but I will get my A-- up those steps no matter what. Congratulations on all your results it's a good feeling to finally be cleared and ready to go. Since he said my broken foot and ankle doesn't matter Im good to go too I think. l
  21. Thanks will let you know how it turns out tomorrow. My appt is 8:15 AM Sooo early I'm not a great morning person as it is when I'm doing good. We'll see how it goes and I'll let you know it should be very interesting
  22. My sister-in-law will be taking me because It's my right foot so I can't drive which in itself is killing me. I think I will let her take my walker up to the top then I will try and get up as far as I can with a crutch praying that they at least have railings ! Most likely will end up on my butt like you suggested by the time I get to the second flight. I WILL NOT MISS THIS APPOINTMENT !!! The hard part is going to be coming back down me and gravity don't get along. At least what ever happens on the way out I will have gotten in !! YEAH I hope your cold doesn't turn into anything worse take care and drink hot tea with lemon and honey. Good Luck
  23. Hi everyone going tomorrow to the Md think I will be starting the Preop. Surgery the 14th. I have MS and fell the other day breaking my ankle and foot. Because of the Hurricane we had, my Mds elevator doesn't work. Not sure how I will get up 2 flights of stairs but I don't want to postpone my appt because then everything will probably be pushed further and I want this over so I can get on my way to a healthier me. Luckily he said the breaks won't postpone the surgery as long as I can make my appt. UGH !
  24. I see you actually lost weight before even starting your pre-op diet. very impressed ! I go to the Dr on the 1st and my surgery is the 14th so he will probably start me around then but so far he hasn't said anything. I haven't weighed myself so it will be interesting to see what I have gained , shocked if I lost. You're doing great hope I can do it.
  25. Welcome to the Sept Bandsters. Why were they telling you that you won't qualify? Luckily you found an understanding md. Less weight is definitely easier on your health and stamina at every age. Our dates are pretty close so we can take this journey together, GOOD LUCK! [quote name='Corrigan' timestamp='1314235641' post='1656298'] After 10 years of being told I wouldn't qualify, a new doctor decided the Lapband would be a good thing! I don't think my weight is too much of a problem, but diabetes and sleep apnea are, so on Sept. 12, I'll be joining all you banders. Cedars-Siani took less than two months from first interview to the procedure. That includes seven visits to see all sorts of specialists and about two thousand miles of travel. I've already lost 12 pounds in anticipation. I've made up my mind, after all the time and effort all these folks have put in, no way in hell I'm not going to finish this program. Best of luck to all the rest of you. It's going to an exciting journey!
