  1. Thanks! Great information!
  2. I was sleeved on 5/23/11 and I had my emergency surgery for the bleeding on 6/1/11. I'm six weeks out today and I feel pretty good, but I felt really horrible for about a month. It just takes time.
  3. Lyndyjo, I had bleeding as well, and it is going to add some time to your recovery. I am just now getting a little energy! I made a trip to the grocery store last Friday...I felt OK and thought that walking around with a grocery cart would help me get some excercise...it was OK but by the time I got to checkout I was out of breath and felt like I tried to do too much. I bet in about two weeks you will feel like a new person...I am still severely anemic from the amount of blood I lost and from my body adjusting to the transfusions...give yourself time, be gentle with yourself. I wish you the best and I hope you will keep us updated.quote name='lyndynojo' timestamp='1309886047' post='174379'] I was sleeved on June 24th and still can't take a shower without feeling exhausted much less walk a mile or two. Of course I did almost die from internal bleeding but still I am amazed at what some of you can do soon after surgery. I hope to start some soft foods after my dr visit thur and maybe that will give me the energy. I have yet to finish a shake, usually just 3 or 4 sips is all I can gag down so I know I'm not getting the protein but I am getting the fluids in. I'm proud of you girls and guys that have the energy to get on with living hopefully I will be there soon too.
  4. Hi ladies! I am six weeks post op today and I have lost 43 pounds...I am thrilled! We don't have costco where I live (GA) but all the things y'all are mentioning sound yummy. Maybe I can check Sam's. Meggie would you please post the link to the Chemistry of Weight Loss article you mentioned? I would love to read it. Congratulations to all of us!
  5. Do you like spicy? Buy the frozen raw shrimp, thaw them and boil them with about (for a pound) 1/4 cup of Old Bay shrimp/seafood seasoning, and about a teaspoon of cayenne pepper. Have the water boiling when you put the shrimp in and cook for no longer than 6 minutes (nothing worse than overcooked shrimp). A delicious way to get protein.[quote name='KellyL' timestamp='1309322802' post='171142'] Hi, I've had the taste for shrimp but don't live where I can get fresh. Has anyone tried the frozen kind at Walmart, and is it good or nasty? Any good ways to prepare it or recipes? I saw a recipe in a magazine for bacon wrapped shrimp that sounded good. Thanks for any ideas!
  6. Keep your eyes on the prize...you will probably have some discomfort but you will have pain meds when you go home. I am 5 weeks out, I had kind of a rough time but it was so worth it! Experienced sleevers kept telling me that soon I would feel like a new person, and they were right. When the scale started moving downward the pain was all forgotten. Good luck!
  7. I'm 5 weeks out...I was sore for a good 3 weeks, I didn't have to take pain meds ALL the time but I did need them occasionally. It gets better though, and when you see the scale moving it's worth the pain. Take it easy and if you have people that are willing to help you...LET THEM! Good luck!!!
  8. Thanks! I just ordered the sample pack...can't wait to receive it. All the shakes I've tried are pretty horrible.
  9. I'm so glad to hear that you are home and feeling better! You've been in my thoughts...I did have to have surgery for my bleeding, I'm glad you didn't. Take good care with yourself!
  10. I was able to switch to decaf but I can't find any kind of "cream" that isn't loaded with carbs. I cannot drink it black, and I don't want to use all of my carb allowance on coffeemate. I would love to to hear what others use...
  11. I found one at Rite Aid...Designer whey French vanilla. It has 18 grams of Protein and 2 grams of carbs. I am just five weeks out and so far I can't eat enough to get close to 60 grams of protein. I mix it with decaf, equal, three ice cubes and a bit of Torani Hazelnut SF Syrup. It tastes like a frappachino. I have also learned that GNC has a protein drink that is more like crystal light or Vitamin Water...it's called Isopure Zero Carb, it comes in twelve different flavors and I think it has 20 grams of protein. a
  12. I am sending positive thoughts your way...I had a similar experience. Keep us updated.
  13. Without a doubt, for me the most helpful tip for post op preparation was freezing soup in ice cube trays. I made some homemade soup and I also used canned soup. 2 0r 3 cubes = 2 0unces...pop it in the micowave for 30 secs and there is nothing to clean up but the bowl and spoon. This also was great for when friends/family came over to help me, it was easy for them to prepare for me. I am 30 days post op and I still use the ice cube trays because it's easy and I don't have to waste food...I can freeze it for another day. Good luck!!!
  14. I took a sippy cup to the hospital but "Nurse Ratchett" took it away from me...she said I would take air in with my liquids and it would cause gas. I did use one when I got home because I just couldn't remember to sip.
  15. OMG I thought the same thing until I figured it out! So glad I'm not the only one!
  16. It sounds as if your therapist has a HUGE ego and feels threatened that you are getting information (that she/he couldn't possibly provide) from another source. I'd go to someone else...a bad therapist is worse than no therapist at all.
  17. Kelly, I'm just wondering what you eat to get all your protein in without the shakes. I would love to cut out my protein shake but without one each day I can't get close to 60 grams of protein(my nut said 60-80 ) eating 2 oz of food 30r 4 times a day. Advice please!
  18. My surgeon told me not to start the liquid diet until one week before my surgery. I shopped around for a protein powder that I liked and had one shake a day. What I did do in advance was to increase my protein and lower my carbs so I would be somewhat used to that type of diet. Cutting out the carbs was much harder than going on liquids. By the time I started liquids I was so excited that it wasn't hard for me...each day of liquids brought me closer to my surgery date! date! Good luck!
  19. Hi all! I was sleeved on May 23 in LaGrange, GA. I had my one month follow up this week and I have lost 33 lbs! I can't figure out how to put the date of my surgery, etc. on my profile...I did finally get the ticker thingy set up. If anyone can advise me I'd appreciate it.
  20. Don't be so hard on yourself! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other, and remember what a great inspiration you are to others!
  21. I had bleeding from the staple line 7 days post-op. I had to have emergency surgery...I don't live in the same city where I had my surgery so it involved two different hospitals and two long ambulance rides. Initially it was uncertain whether i had a leak or bleeding; thank goodness it was bleeding...after surgery I was in ICU for several days and then moved to another room. I went home after a week. I am now 4weeks post-op and I'm doing fine, I have lost 28 lbs. I t was a very scary situation for my family and me.
  22. One week after my VSG I had to be rushed to the hospital...no blood pressure, dizzy to the point of passing out. A CT scan revealed that I had abdominal bleeding. After starting blood transfusions and stabilizing my blood pressure enough to get back in an ambulance, I travelled an hour to the hospital where I had my VSG. My surgeon was waiting for me and he operated imediately...blood transfusions continued for another 36 hours. I spent three days in ICU and three more on the surgical floor before being released. I am still very anemic, weak, sore and tired, but feeling a little better. I was sleeved on 5/23/11 and went back in hospital 5/31/11. I have not found anyone on this forum that has had a similar experience.
  23. I can't find sugar free...only fat free and lite, however the label says 0 sugar and 2g carb per serving.
