  1. My Dr's office has me follow a 2-3 days of protein shakes, 2-3 days mushy foods, then onto regular foods after each fill. That way your stomach is able to adjust a little easier to the new restriction, Hope that helps :-)
  2. Singingpeaches Not all bands are empty right out of surgery. There are plenty of surgeons who put Fluid in the band during surgery (mine included). I have not gone in for a fill yet but I know I already have 4 cc in my band.
  3. I buy the cases of EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control in Chocolate Fudge. Only 110 calories, 2 net carbs, 17 g protein.
  4. Im surprised your Dr, didn't give you more specific guideline. I started on mushy foods this past monday and I've been having 3 oz of a Protein & 3 oz veg a day plus one 3 oz of cottage cheese as a snack if needed. I got a very detailed list of things I can and can't have plus serving size for each. Good Luck!
  5. Same thing happened to me! I asked the nurse what to do when I get to the hospital and she told me to leave my own underwear on and just wear a pad.
  6. About 2 weeks post-op I was able to start sleeping on my stomach again comfortably. For the first week I couldn't even handle sleeping on my side and wound up sleeping on the couch for the first week propped up. I'm a little over 3 weeks post op now and no problems at all :-) It will start feeling better before you know it and this discomfort will only be a memory. Good Luck to you!
  7. Last year I bought the Reebok toning shoes more for comfort over what they supposed can help do. While they were very comfortable, if I tried walking anywhere for a little distance I still had terrible foot pain. The little air cushions on the under side of the shoe I felt did not last very long. I started noticing that I was walking funny and looked on the bottom, half the air cushions were deflated. Instead of re-purchasing this pair I opted for the Sketchers Shape-ups (the black & pink ones are so cute!) and can honestly say I have never put a more comfortable shoe on! I was wearing these everyday and now 3 months later I have no more pain in my feet. I love the cushioning so much that I went to the sketchers store and purchase two more styles of shoes ( maryjane & sandels) in the shape-up line. Can't tell you it does all that much for toning/shaping but as far as comfort goes you will not be disappointed in the Sketchers!
  8. When I woke up from surgery my pain was at a level 8 out of 10. I am a wimp and have a low threshold for pain. The recovery room nurse immediately pumped something into my IV (I'm assuming morephine) and I was fine within minutes. I slept for about 2 hours, woke up with nausea which they gave me something for, which in turn gave me a HUGE headache. The pain when I woke from surgery was in my whole abdominal area. When I woke up later I was in barely any pain except for my throat from the tube during surgery. For the two days after surgery my pain was about a 2 only when getting up & down and I was able to ease that with just some liquid tylenol. Day 3 post-op did not need pain meds anymore at all. Only pain that was left was in my shoulder from the air they pump you with during surgery.
  9. I start Mushy foods today (banded June 8th) and I prepared to "meals" yesterday. Canned chicken mashed up with a little non-fat greek yogurt (instead of mayo) with a few drops of franks red hot sauce for added flavor. Very well blended shrimp (tuna like consistency) with a little non-fat greek yogurt, finely chopped scallions & a small amount of old bay seasoning. Can't wait to finally chew something today :-)
  10. How did you know it slipped? I was just banded 6/8 and got a terrible cold this week. Ive been coughing /gagging like crazy and Im so afraid im going to do something to the band!
  11. I was just banded on June 8th and the whole first week I had to sleep on the couch. Could not get comfortable enough to even attempt sleep in my bed. I need the support from the back of the couch on my side to keep me in one place :-). Good Luck ! You seem to be doing great so far :-)
  12. You say that you are able to put anything in your mouth just eat in smaller portions. Are you making healthy decisions? Maybe it is not how much/little you are eating but what you are eating. My Dr requires a very strict diet plan following surgery but I know not all Dr do. I definitely would not give up and consider this a failure just yet. Hang in there and Keep up the good work!!!
  13. I was banded on June 8th and I'm still in my liquid phase. Right after surgery I had to do 5 days of water only (no broths or soups either), then I was able to start adding in protein shakes. I'm almost done with the 2 weeks of shakes & I'm dying to put something in my mouth and chew it lol. I go to the Dr's on monday and will be able to start my mushy food phase. Never in my life have I looked forward to cottage cheese & tuna so much in my life!! Even in the mushy food phase my Dr has me staying low carb. It is best to follow any guidelines your Dr has laid out for you, each one is different in what they want us to do directly after surgery. Good Luck!
  14. Its so interesting to me how every doctor has us following different diets. I am on day 13 post-op and I am only consuming 3 protein shakes a day for a grand total of 330 calories a day! Are you still in a mushie food phase or eating regular foods?
  15. I was banded on 6/8 and for the first 8 night I could not sleep in my bed. I am a stomach / side sleeper but obviously those position were out of the question. I slept on the couch propped up with pillows for those 8 nights. A few days after surgery I was able to lay slightly on my side on the couch with my back propped up against the back of the couch. 11 days post-op now and I am definitely more comfortable laying in my bed and on my side. It does get easier!! Good Luck !!

I am 11 days post-op and still on liquids for another week. The last two days were starting to get rough but the last statement in your blog really hits home for me. This is not the forever place!! Just what I needed to hear :-) Thanks & good luck on your journey!

I can totally relate. I have been banded 11 days and I am still on a liquid diet. While I am not physically hungry I feel like I am going through a withdrawal of putting food in my mouth! I want to be eating because everyone else is eating not because I'm hungry. I have a week left of liquids only and hoping it goes by quick. Good luck on your journey!

I was banded on June 8th and had to do 5 full days of water only, no soups broths or anything else. Surprisingly I was not hungry at all and the water was all I needed. Good Luck!!
  19. I am 8 days post-op. Did really well scale wise when I went for my post-op visit with my surgeon monday. Since then I have tortured myself by getting on my scale at home and it has not moved all week!! I think I need to put the scale away for a while so I don't drive myself crazy!

I also have Aetna and I just listed it as well, they never asked for proof and actually approved the surgery in less then 24 hours after submission of all the paperwork! Good Luck!!
  21. Thanks everyone I really appreciate your input!
  22. Thanks! I did call friday right after the icident and the nurse practicioner thought it might be a little hypoglycemia and told me to have a 1/2 teaspoon of applesauce. I also called this morning when I got to work and she thought it might be the same thing but they are having me come in friday for a check & blood work to check my sugars.
  23. I had surgery last wednesday 6/8/11, no problems noted during surgery and I was home that afernoon. I was finally allowed to shower on friday and as soon as I opened the curtain afer the shower I was hit with a wave of sweating & a hot flash. I got myself out of the tub and leaned on the counter because I started getting that "fading" feeling, like I was about to pass out. Walked myself over to the couch where I layed down for a few minutes, but as soon as I got back up and went into the bathroom it happened again. I got my boyfriend up and as he was holding me up I was almost passing out in his arms. Layed down again and everythng was fine. Had no other issues over the weekend until this morning after the shower again. I got the hot & sweaty feeling again and immediately layed down ( which I think helped the fainting from happening again). I'm geting enough fluids, had 2 liters of Water yesterday plus 3 11 oz protien shakes. However I did not have anything before the shower this AM. I also still have a stabbing pain in my left shoulder since surgery (which im assuming is from the air they pump you with) but im wondering if it usually lasts this long? Lastly, I have not been able to sleep on my sides since surgery. I find that I "feel" everything moving around in my abdomin, and Im only comfortable sleeping semi-upright on the couch. Is this pretty normal as well? I appreciate any input on these situations!! Thanks
