Period during surgery

sort of a gross question, but i am having surgery tommorrow and just got my period today (which i am grateful for cause i was having a bit of a pregnancy scare)...anyways, how do i handle that on surgery day...i am not a tampon gal and so i usually use pads...but won't we only have our gowns on?

The hospital will have the aforementioned mesh panties and HUGE pad that they throw on you after childbirth. You'll never feel sexier. LOL

Don't worry... just let the nurses know and they will handle it. If I remember correctly, they have some stretchy meshy underwear that you can use. You aren't the first to have that happen and definitely won't be the last!

Good luck on your surgery! See you on the post-op side soon!

Yeah just let your nurse know. That happened to me when I had my surgery. My nurse just told me to leave my own panties on. You'll be okay!!! Good luck!!!!

Same here. The nurses were great and took care of everything. Good luck tomorrow!

Same thing happened to me! I asked the nurse what to do when I get to the hospital and she told me to leave my own underwear on and just wear a pad.

thanks guys, i remember them from when i had my kids :) i hope they let me use my own though!

The same EXACT thing happened to me... The nurses were totally cool with it, and so was the surgeon. In fact, they wanted to order a pregnancy test and I said that it certainly wasn't necessary....

Good luck with your surgery!

Hey if you can't laugh about unsexy mesh panties and phone book sized maxi pads, what can you laugh about? I am looking forward to that time of the month being over by Tuesday. I have enough things I wish I could hide (count the rolls). :P

This is JUST what i need! Since Aunt Flow will b n town for my surgery date. PLEASE tell me they allow tampons!! Ok so can u at least bring YOUR own PADS??? Will have to ask my surgeon when i have my final appointment with him.

had to wear the mesh undies and big pad, and then they actually cut of the undies during surgery too...went home in my own though! they also asked me to waive the pregnancy test...

surgery went ok, having a lot of shoulder pain now though and some pain at incision points.

Glad to hear surgery went well! Good luck and thanks for the advice

I was on my period and wore a tampon...no issues. In fact I dont think I even told anyone.

I got my period day after surgery. I was freaking about the same stuff. I was happy to get the pain meds knowing I was dealing with surgery and pms. We survive.
