  1. Congratulations! I have UHC also and they have been wonderull. I also had a hernia repaired with the surgery which needed to be done for a long time so I feel like I got the band for free. It's good that you have a doctor you are satisfied with.

  3. Where do you find this product? It sounds really good. Thanks for sharing.
  4. I am 61 and was banded May 25th 2011. I also had many comorbidities. I don't ususally think of myself as old. Maybe I'm not realistic. The first time I thought about my age was when I was in recovery longer than usual because of my blood pressure not going down. They told my friend who was waiting I was doing well "considering my age". LOL. Seriously, I am glad that I had it done. I am down from four blood pressure pills to two. My blood sugar is more stable and I am getting more exercise. I have taken up Hula Hooping and got a Cyberbike for my Wii. I try to get in about thirty minutes of exercise a day. I say "DO IT!" We're not old, just need a little TLC.
  5. I do understand the fear of what the new body will look like, but for different reasons than some of you. I am three weeks from being 62 years old. My face doesn't look that old because my fat fills in the wrinkles around my eyes and on my neck. I have warned my husband that I will look older than I do now and maybe even look older than my real age due to the loose skin that might happen. That is scarry, but my choice was to stay fat (and younger looking) until I died of complications of extended and uncontrolled high blood pressure and diabetes, or to look older and get to really live to be as old as I will look. Sometimes the vanity still kicks in and I fear the wrinkles but I have to choose life.
  6. Sorry to hear that you are not going to be able to use the band, but thankful that the pain will be gone. Please come back and let us know how you are doing. Looking forward to hearing that the pain is less and then gone.
  7. I know this is an exciting time for you. I have been doing well since surgery. I am a slow healer and ususally have complications to everything. This is one where I have not had any complications. I am healing well. Most people do well and I am thankful to be in that group. Let us know when you get a date.
  8. I discovered a coffee protein drink. It is called CLICK. They carry it on amazon and at The Vitamin Shoppe. I went to one in town and got it. I love it. It only has 15 grams of protein and 120 calories, but it is something I can drink when I get up in the morning. It is good hot or cold, but I prefer cold. It mixes well in a shaker and comes out thick like a frappucino for SB.
  9. Happy Birthday! Sorry I was late. I don't know about numerology, but I would say that losing 30 pounds shows the significance of your commitment to being better each year. Can't wait to see what you do next year.
  10. Welcome, Skinny Girl. Your name says it all. Have you already been banded or are you in the process? I am fairly new here also (5 weeks post op). The people on here are full of information and so willing to help. Have a great day!
  11. I just discovered this and researched a lot on the internet. I made one today and am trying to learn. It didn't hurt me, I'm just not very coordinated.
  12. That sounds like a very stressful event. Feel better soon.
  13. Denise, everyone feels different after surgery so we can't know how you will feel. But, that being said I would definitely spend the night to see how you are feeling. When you get ready to travel back home be sure to plan ahead. You will need plenty of Water and some Protein drinks and maybe a couple of little Jello cups. Then, when you get ready to drive home be sure to allow time in the drive to stop and walk every hour. I live 45 minutes from the clinic and we had to stop for me to walk due to horrible gas pains. Also, be sure to stay ahead of the pain by taking the pain medicines before you are in bad pain on the trip.
  14. Congratulations on finding peace with your decision. Welcome to pre-bandland!
  15. Yes, I have United Health Care Choice Plus. I had a BMI of a little over 36 with two morbidities, but my policy only required one. I kept in touch with them as it went through the system. My policy had 15 calendar days to make a decision, but it took them a couple of days to put it into the system. They did tell me that the doctor listing a potential surgery date helped because they try to finish it before the surgery date. I was approved in about 10 days. Good luck!
  16. I would research the track record of your insurance. Do they usually pay on one co morbidity or do they put people through a lot of hoops and denials? Also, are you fairly sure you will have the same policy in one year? Is your company due to renegotiate their policies soon? If so, they might change their coverage. Here in Texas teacher insurance, they re stated the policy waiting period in April and it anyone who didn't start the process by then would fall under the new policy in August, which requires more money up front and the teachers might as well go self pay. Just saying, research it all then make the decision. We're here for whatever your decision is.
  17. Congratulations on the weight loss, but even more on the physical fitness that lets you run so much. I know that at this point I could never do that. Seeing those of you who do it is motivational to me.
  18. Tammy Dawn, Welcome. I love coffee also. I have used SB via coffee mix in my protein drinks. I also use almond milk in place of milk. It only has 35 calories and makes me feel like I have the milk.
  19. What does it feel like? And if you feel it after a fill but it goes away, how long does it last before it it goes away? I had a fill Wednesday of this last week. I didn't feel much different until yesterday (Saturday). Now I feel full when I eat about three ounces of food. I don't feel hungry for many hours. Is this what I am looking for? And if so, does it ususally last? This was my first fill and I have 3cc's in a 10cc band. Thank you for all this help you all give us newbies on here.
  20. Sorry that they denied you. Glad that you are able to convert to self pay.
  21. Fifty pounds since January sounds really good to me. Since you are having problems with food in the morning, I think you don't need a fill. I did read someplace that one mistake banders make is to wait for the "full" feeling to stop eating. They said to stop when you know you have had the right amount. If it wasn't enough you willl get truly hungry in a couple of hours. That is what I am doing now. I know that's what I did and now I've had to put myself back on mushies.
  22. My doctor said one to two weeks. The workaholic in me wanted to go back in one, so that's what I said. My paperwork wasn't done in time to get me on the schedule then. I am finally on the scedule for next week (4 weeks). I am glad that I had the time. I would not have been good at all at one week. I am over 60 and have firbromyalgia, elevated BP, and diabetic. I have recently been a slow healer in other areas. All that said to say, look at you rhealing history, age, medical conditions. Then, make a careful decision. Can you ask for two weeks or more and then go back early if you are feeling well and bored? If I could, that is what I would do.
  23. So happy for you! The time will fly by.
  24. Had my first fill Tuesday.Maybe the restricition set in last night, nearly two days later. Wednesday I didn't feel any differences. Thursday I thought I was hungry all day. I never ate a lot, but small bite sized snacks all day. Then last night I really was hungry (or so I thought). I ate two protein donuts from the eggface recipes. No problem for about three minutes then I felt a little chest pain and small bits of flavor in my mouth. The discomfort lasted for a while. When I ate breakfast this morning. I had three turkey links and one egg. I thought I chewed the sausages well. Maybe not, I have a feeling of fullness in my chest and a tiny bit of pain. I have heard that full feels different. I might be overeating because I don't acknowledge that chest and throat feeling as full. Learning, but hope I don't have to have PB before I learn.
