Thanks Debora Anne, yes that "me time" was important to get me through another day.

Once step forward-Two steps backward
SIL was doing better yesterday so I spent the night at home last night. I slept well and got to walk to the Family Walk video. Got up this morning and walked with it for 19 minutes. The one mile point is at 15 minutes. As I finished my walk, my husband called from the hospital and his sister had taken a turn for the worst. Her fever went up to 102.4 and she was totally out of it. I rushed on over, but this time I packed a little bit of high protein liquids. She awakened a little while ago as if nothing had happened. I think I will see if I can pull up the video on the internet and use headphones to do my walk in the room.

First fill questions
Thank you for the link to your blog. Now that I read your experience it won't be a total surprise when I go in two weeks.

You were pretty at the start, but you are absolutely beautiful now!

Week 1 of pre surg almost done
You are so loving to cook for your husband during this difficult time in your life. It is good to hear that you are doing better with your blood pressure already. It's exciting that you are so close to your surgery day. You are going to do well.

Caretaker for another during second week post-op
My first full day up without any pain meds was Tuesday. I went out with my son, went shopping and walked for 10 minutes. When I was on my way home I found out that my SIL was being admitted to the hospital for emergency surgery. I headed over there and stayed with her until she went into surgery. The tired and weakness set in right after they wheeled her back. I was unable to rest while she was in surgery and then I got 2.5 hours of sleep that night. I stayed with her around the clock until last night when my husband was able to relieve me so I could come home and relax for a few hours. I'll be back with her by noon today. Eating at the hospital without any prior preparation has been difficult, but I made wise compromises. I have not gotten my protein in. I have had yogurt for breakfast and soup from the cafeteria for lunch and dinner. One day it was clam chowder where I mashed the potatoes and left the few pieces of clam. Yesterday it was tomato soup and then mexican wedding soup. I left the meatballs of this behind. Last night my husband took me out to eat at a deli and I had potato soup. I am eating too many carbohydrates, but reminding myself that healing is the objective here. I didn't need anything for pain for two days. Starting yesterday I have needed a little pain med. The area of the hernia repair is sore. I don't know why. When I came home llate last night I wanted to work but it was too late to go outside. I founda video on demand on Verizon Fios called "Family Walk". It is just walking to music, basically. I did that for 15 minutes. Yesterday I managed to get in 7500 steps of my 8000 steps goal. Pretty good considering the lack of normal routine here.

Kutting Weight and Sweet Sweat
Is it dangerous if you use this suit and get too hot? I would worry about heat stroke. Is it possible or does it do a different kind of heat? I am confused. Will it help you speed up your metabolism or just sweat?

Day 5 Post Op
It's good to hear that you are feeling well enough to go to a wedding. It is hard having to eat out of your home while still on the post op diet. It sounds like you are making it work for you. It won't be long until we move on to the next steps in diet and adapting to life with the band. Keep up the good work and best wishes to you!

How to Avoid Loose Skin After Surgery
I read in my insurance benefit information that if it is causing a rash, pain, etc. etc that it could be covered. I don't remember the exact terminology but it could be worth looking into.

How many incisions do you have?
Yes, I got my book yesterday.. I read it until 1:00 in the morning. I agree that it is very well written with a lot of information. Thanks for the tip.

Feeling Hungry!
Mandy, we were banded a week ago today. I was sticking to the clear liquids until I called the doctor yesterday. They said I could have soups (it was on my list but I didn't understand it). They said I should just be sure that there are NO chunks in the soup and make sure it is not a heavy soup. I have been more satisfied since I added soups. I put the soup in my Magic Bullet and drink it slowly over 20 minutes or so.

How many incisions do you have?
I also have six. I have two large ones at the top and a smaller one under my bra line. I assume the larger one and extra one are due to the hiatal hernia repair. She did say it was LARGE, with an emphasis on large.

Time off Work
My doctor gave me the choice of one or two weeks. That was before surgery and I took one. I am on the one week point which would be my day to go back. Since this weeks schedule was already out by the time my release went through the system, it will be two weeks. I need two weeks. I have a physically demanding job. I have worked up to being able to walk 17 minutes at a time. I still need pain meds occasionally to keep my blood pressure down. I don't know how a doctor can predict how much time it will take to recover ahead of time. Everyone and even within one person every operation is different. I'd say, take the max and go back early if you feel better.

Last Day of May-Day 6 Post Op
So today was a good day. I didn't have much pain but I was really tired all day. I don't know why and I just went with it. I sat in the front yard for a couple of hours and enjoyed the sunshine. My Body Bugg arrived today. I am trying to learn how to use it with my phone. I'm excited because the first time I put it on was as I took a walk down the block. I would like to enjoy exercise. I never have. I'm looking for a lot of changes in my life and maybe that will be the first one.

How long were you on mushies?
Vicky, I am impressed by your progress with minimal fills. I noticed you are almost half way to your goal. You go girl!

Post-Honeymoon but pre-first-fill phase
We will have to hang together. I am six days post op. A couple of days ago I thought I was starving to death, literally. Then yesterday I found some old Metafast soup and mixed it up. It had 13 g of protein and 3 g or carbohydrate. I made it real thin and I lost my appetite. Today I called the surgeons office and they said that is a good choice because of the protein. They told me that I could have anything that is runny and doesn't have chunks but keep it light. In other words, I can't have a runny steak. I am doing so much better at this point. I was so tired of sweet.

Any May 2011 Banders?
It seems like you are doing well to be online so soon after surgery. Have a smooth and speedy recovery so we can get on with this. I had surgery one week ago tomorrow and today I have very little pain.

My insurance covers it BUT ...
I was able to get my insurance company to read me the exact requirements. I called many times through the approval process and the agents were varying degrees of cooperative. I would just keep calling until you find one who will read it to you. You are paying the premiums and it is YOUR policy. You have a right to the information. The information they gave me was actually less restrictive than what the clinic got. We submitted with what they told me and it went through. My holdup was also the five year history which the clinic believed I needed, but after being told by UHC that my policy did not require it we submitted with no documented history and it went through. I do have several co morbidities. Good luck to you.

Any Bandsters from Dallas Texas?
I used insurance. So far I am happy with them. I didn't realize the differences between places on aftercare. It seems that the consensus on here is that both TLC and True Results do a good job. There is one comment on here that gives more details on the comparison.

Yes, I get this all the time. I have always gotten this while I have tried to lose weight over the last 25 years. I started this with a BMI just over 36. Initially my patient advocate even said she was concerned about me being approved. I have always had chicken legs and chicken arms. At times I choose to dress in such a way that my chicken (now normal sized) legs and arms are emphasized and my torso is minimized. I also had liposuction on the quadruple chin a few years ago for job stability. So yes, I do look smaller than I actually am. I also don't have a BMI over 40. But...there are some people who don't question my decision My PCP doctor who writes my three blood pressure medications each month. My Rheumatologist who treats the fibromyalgia and arthritis My Endocrinologist for my diabetes My husband who sees the rolls on my five foot frame under the clothes. My husband who pays the $300.00 copays on meds each month and hopes we never lose insurance and can't afford my scripts My children and grandchildren who want me to attend graduations and weddings in the years to come. Myself....I want to live longer, be happier, be healthier, have less pain, take less medications and feel better about myself. So I might not have reached a BMI over 40. I was not as healthy as a lot of people with that magic BMI of 40 plus. Fortunately for me the criteria for surgery include "unhealthy" people with a BMI over 35.
