  1. What are you hoping the phentermine will do? Are you hoping it decreases your appetite? You said that your band seems to be at a good fill. So are you hungry in between meals? Phentermine can temporarily increase your metabolism, but you could probably do that by working out more consistently and increasing the intensity and the number of days you work out. How many calories are you eating per day? Are you tracking everything? Do you measure your portions or just eye ball it? Are you focusing on good nutrition, high Protein, lower carbs and fats? Have you talked to your primary doctor and have you had your thyroid checked? These are all questions I'd ask myself before I decided to try any drug to lose weight especially after being banded. If I had a plateau for that length of time, I would do a 2 week "boot camp". I would focus completely on my eating and exercise. Track everything. Measure everything. Do high protein, low carb. I would drink tons of Water everyday. Workout 6 out of 7 days. Take my Vitamins. Do everything you are supposed to do. If after that time you still dont break the plateau then perhaps try the drug route. Good Luck!
  2. I'm sorry the band didnt work for you. Good luck.
  3. Hi, I have the same issues. food addiction. It sucks. I truly believe food addiction is harder to kick than any other addiction because you have to eat. If you were a drug addict or alcoholic you could give up those substances and never have to take them again. But with food, we are faced with it every day. I definitely recommend therapy. Get someone who specializes in food addiction or eating disorders or is a cognitive behavioral therapist. Also, there is a good book that I have read. It is called "Shrink Yourself" by Roger Gould. It talks about emotional eating and gives step by step instructions on how to identify and deal with emotional triggers. Shrink Yourself They even have a web site with a 12 week online class to deal with emotional eating. The main thing is, you need to decide you want to change your life. You need to make a plan regarding how you are going to make the changes. Your band is a good tool. Do you need a fill? I know that with a proper fill the amount you eat should be limited and you should feel full. Perhaps you need to see your surgeon. Good Luck. I wish you much success!
  4. To me it sounds like it is some type of gastro issue. Activity at both ends definitely sounds like some type of virus or other bug. I had a coworker who recently went through something similar that lasted for about 2 months. He was eventually diagnosed with colitis. I would definitely talk to your nurse and doctor. Also, be sure to track all your food, the times you eat and when you get the nausea and other yucky feelings. This will be helpful to bring with you to the appointment because it might shed some light on the problem. I hope you feel better soon. ps...congrats on your fantastic weight loss!
  5. Wow! What an amazing story! So glad you are doing well and that your daughter and grand daughter are ok too! Let's hope their are no more "adventures" in hospital-land for a long time. Other than work of course!
  6. What an amazing accomplishment! Way to go!
  7. For non-meat protein I eat... Cottage Cheese Light Cheddar Cheese Edamame Almonds Eggs/Egg whites Beans
  8. I've seen it before, so I'm not sure it is new.
  9. LOL, when you wrote sx, I thought you meant sex. Then I realized you meant surgery. Congrats on your progress!
  10. Congrats on your success! You have done an amazing job and should be very proud of yourself. Like others said, the sizes will drop. Have a great day!
  11. Dont worry...I had scrambled eggs about 4 days after surgery. I posted a similar post to yours worried that I ruined something and feeling guilty. You will be fine. Just get back on track and follow the doctors instructions. The crazy thing is that every dr. seems to be different in their post op instructions. Some people are cleared to eat solid food after a week. Get back on track and you will be fine. Congrats on surgery! I wish you much luck in your journey!
  12. I'm not sure when you had surgery, but having pain in your side and the gas pain is completely normal after surgery. Even over 2 months out, I still get side pains from time to time.
  13. No need to worry. Our bodies are not that fragile. I dont think you have anything to worry about the band slipping. Hope you feel better soon!
  14. My post-op was also pretty easy. I was sore at the site of the port incision, but other than that I had no other pain. I was difficult for me to sleep on my side and had to pretty much sleep on my back which is not my favorite. I didnt take any pain medication because all they gave me was liquid vicodin which doesn't work on me. My throat was really sore due to the tube down my throat, but that resolved by the second day. I slept a lot and just took it easy. The whole experience was much easier than I expected. I hope your surgery goes well on Tuesday! Keep us updated.
  15. So glad you are back on track! I wish you much continued success.
  16. I just did a internet search and it is pretty common. It has to do with tube they put down your throat during surgery. It may have been laying on your tongue weird. It also could be a side effect of the anesthesia. According to one site, it could last a few days to a few weeks. Congrats on surgery! I hope your recovery goes well!
  17. Wow! Sounds like you are doing great!! Way to go! So glad things went well for you.
  18. I'm so glad that everything went well! I loved my chicken broth after surgery. It was the only thing that made me feel good.
  19. Welcome! Congrats on your amazing progress thus far. Hope to see you around the boards.
  20. Welcome Victor! I am so happy you made this decision and are moving forward with your plan. Be sure to check out all the other message groups on this board. There is a lot of good information and support! If you have any questions, I'll do my best to help.
  21. My BMI is much higher than 50. I did give serious thought to getting bypass vs. the band. But in the end, the band ended up being the right choice for me. Based on some research I did, the amount of weight lost by bypass vs. band patients was about the same after 3 years. The bypass people tend to lose faster, especially in the beginning. I will say that the band is work. You must eat right, exercise. The band is a tool and requires lifestyle changes. I started at 415 and my goal per my doctor is 227 which means I need to lose 188 pounds. I was 364 this morning and have lost 51 pounds since May 9th. I know it is doable because there are lots of people who have lost very large amounts of weight with the band. In fact 6 years ago I lost 125 pounds in a year just with exercise and diet. So I know I can do this. In the end, you need to do what is best for you. You need to be realistic about the amount of work and the expected outcomes of each procedure. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.
  22. I am very happy to report that during my appt. with my primary MD on Wednesday, my blood pressure was 104/45. That is definitely low for me as I usually run 130/80 even on 4 different blood pressure meds. I had been experiencing some light headedness (new word) every time I stand up. My doctor concluded that with my weight loss and healthier lifestyle that we could drop one of my meds. I am very excited. It is certainly nice to see the benefits of my surgery and all the hard work I am doing. Doing a happy dance! :Banane02::Banane05::Banane04:
  23. So glad everything went well. Wow, I wonder why they put in a catheter? That definitely sucks! And a suppository for nausea? Sounds like they were trying to torture you a little. I truly hope the healing process goes smoothly!
  24. I usually eat my dinner around 8pm or later. I dont usually get home from work until 7 or 7:30. I know some people will say eating late makes you gain weight. I dont believe it. It's all about your total calories and nutrition for the day. Not the time.
