cynthiap05 reacted to ready_to_be_thin in Kinda OT: What do you guys think of Mama June's news headlines about her VGS & Body Lift?
I've seen all of the episodes, and they definitely show all of the ups an downs that she went through. It shows her with her trainer, the difficulties she had following the diet, and the major amounts of pain she dealt with on the skin removal surgeries. They also showed her having some problems with depression. I think if people watch the show, they'll see that its not an easy way out of doing things, but if not, people might draw that conclusion...that we all know is sure not the truth. I think she really looks good and I commend her for going through all of this with a camera on her allowing everyone to see the struggle.

I watched the whole show. She busted her butt with trainers and worked hard to lose the weight. Everyone that knows nothing about surgery thinks it's the easy way out regardless of shows about it. I'm super proud of her for doing it. She lost 300 pounds!! Her starting weight was 460. She looks amazing just unfortunately her extra skin on her lower arms can't be helped. She still has it on her legs. The show shows all of her struggles, even regaining and making poor food choices when she was stressed. It showed the ups and downs we all face and how hard she had to work to make that weight actually come off. Now the real question, can she keep it off because that's the real challenge.

Doesn't sound too fast to me. You are exercising daily, like I am and that's surely helping. I'm 5 months post op and am down 141 pounds. (Started at 470)

Before surgery I was one of those people who always bought the magazine with the newest diet. Recipe books, my I-books has uploads of books on weight loss. For years I've had clothes in my closet that were; "One day" clothes. Incentive outfits for the spring! Fall! The thought process was Always to GET THIS WEIGHT OFF!!!!!! Imagine the hours, days, weeks, months and years wrapped into that mind set. I've Been Set FREE! Today my thought process is on what I CAN DO, no longer do I hesitate. That is for me the victory! The ONE DAY clothes I've worn and shrunk out of.
If your thinking about doing the sleeve, imagine freedom.

My NUT said it to combine more than 30 grams of protein at a time. For some reason it doesn't absorb? To spread it out it out at least 3x a day. Just wanted to let you know.

cynthiap05 reacted to mylighthouse in So Important: Please Drink Your Liquids
    Hello everyone,
I just wanted to share something with you all that will hopefully be helpful to those who haven't had surgery yet, or to those who are post op and need to be encouraged to get all of their liquids in each day (64 ounces or more per day).
I made a post on here several days ago, I was concerned about dizzy spells that I was having. I wound up going to the doctor this past Thursday because of the dizziness. My blood pressure was fairly low (for me anyway)-- 96/70. I am 13 weeks post op and my blood pressure is usually up around 125/75.
I remember my surgeon and nutritionist stressing from the very beginning how important it was to get in your liquids everyday. So I had been making a point to do that, and since the very beginning, I had no trouble getting in about 76 ounces a day. However, within the last couple of weeks there were a few days I had unintentionally slacked off some. I was finding that food and drink were filling me up more than usual, and by 7 p.m. each night, I could literally not drink any more liquids.
So, after my doctor's appointment Thursday, things started going downhill. I went out grocery shopping Friday and when I got home, I was incredibly fatigued, I have never felt so rotten. It was like a ten ton truck had run me over. On top of that, I was dizzy, my blood pressure was low and I had a horrible headache. ALL of these problems continued through the weekend. I called my doctor's office this morning and they said to go to the ER. I just got home from the ER. They did an EKG, scan, bloodwork and gave me IV fluids. I found out that I have a urinary tract infection and that I was mildly dehydrated. Instructions are antibiotics for the infection and to drink more fluids.
I want to say that I only got "off program" with my liquids for a few days. You just can't do that. It is SO IMPORTANT to get your fluids! Luckily, my case was mild dehydration and a UTI, which is no fun. But others have become dehydrated to the point where it can cause even worse problems and it can land you in the hospital for days if you don't stay on top of it!
Sip, sip, sip! Don't forget to drink!

I'm a teacher and received 8 boxes of chocolate, 1 mug of chocolate, and 1 candy bar from my students. I plan to regift it so I don't eat it. I'm not a big chocolate fan so that helps with temptations. I politely tossed 3 cupcakes, a few Cookies, and dessert bar after school. #thoughtfulstudentsbariatricteacher

I made a command decision about 5 weeks postop that if I was going to get my Water in I'd have to use a straw. No problems drinking my Decaf cup of coffee in the am and a 52 ounce unsweetened tea thru the day.

My surgeon encourages the use of it helps you get your Fluid in! He even lets you while in the hospital directly post-op. I'm 1 year and 8 months out so far, without a straw, I don't get 1/2 the Water amount in as when I do you a straw!

    Hey brittanykins....
Beings you're a vegetarian isn't there a supplement for hair like Biotin that you would take??? I have many friends who are vegan/vegatarians etc, and it seems like they took Vitamin supplements for their hair and nails. I took this a year before surgery and nails grow fine and a little hair comes out here and there but I'm like you I have so much of it....It scares me that I might lose too much so as soon as I can get my head back on straight I'm going back to the Biotin...And I do wear my hair short and spikey like so to conceal some of that....But i'm used to thick hair and want to kepp it too....I haven't seen where the Shampoo kits have made a difference in my Moms thinning hair so I can't recommend any of those, someone else maybe could I just haven't seen any results of proof....I know too sometimes I used Coconut oil as a scalp treatment/conditioner maybe that could help...But stay true to your natural stuff ask at the health food places, but you want to see some actual results....Why, if we have to lose our hair, why could it not have been our mustaches or leg hairs some place that requires waxing for cryin out loud.....lolo

    I was surprised by:
how annoying "sip sip sip" was .... UGH ... I wanted to DRINK not sip !
how painful the gas was ... when it reached my left shoulder ... I wanted someone to shoot me!
how weak I would be ... just taking a shower made me sleep for 3 hours afterward ....
how certain foods would actually smell horrible! My mom made a bowl of Cheerios ... WOW they stunk!!!!! I had to go into the bedroom and shut the door .... bleech!
how sugar free popsicles tasted like they were drowned in sugar .... I still have the box in the freezer ... and I refuse to eat them ... yuck.
how not being able to take Midol anymore really really sucks.
    BUT ...
    the thing I wasn't expecting ... ( or maybe I secretly was )
was just how wonderful losing weight ... and KNOWING I cannot gain this much ever again .... just how great this feels !!!

Ladies feel free to comment as well!
I need some help with my underwear. BAD! I've been in briefs since I was just a little guy and I've tried boxers in my adult life for about a year and I liked the support that briefs gave me. I'm due for new smaller underwear but I have a major problem. As the fat has gone away from my junk I've needed better support to keep the twig and berries from branching out. I've especially had problems with getting into vehicles. The underroos shift over and one of my boys suddenly gets a crash course in bondage and torture. That definitely isn't my thing so a change is in order. I usually wear Hanes or fruit of the Groom. Looking at Wally World revealed that smaller loincloth equals a smaller hammock for the banana and that will only make the problem worse. Please help release me from my bonds and suggest a better fig leaf!

Today, Day 32 post-op, I got in all of my Protein with NO Protein SHAKES! I was able to add fish today (salmon specifically), so that did the trick. And I got to 900 calories for the first time. It took me 14 hours of eating and drinking to get everything in and account for the 30 minutes before/after eating "no water" periods. I got in 910 calories, 17 carbs, and 90 grams of protein.
I'm sure there will be days when I have to have Protein shakes for one reason or another, but I am going to Celebrate the fact that I am finally in a place where I won't have to rely on them every day!

Hang in there. I'm about 5 weeks out. I ran the whole gamut of emotions for pretty much the first 2.5 weeks. From excited to pissed off to upset to questioning everything. This first part can suck. Just go day by day. Get in a routine on when to eat and drink. If you aren't up to your plans protein/ Water guidelines, keep adding to your routine slow and steady. You will get to better days.
On lifting your spirits? Do something special for your self, get a manicure or pedicure, buy a new pair of shoes sit in the sun shine take a walk, color in a book, mediation get you hair cut, massage ( professional or by your SO) soak in a tub if you are allowed. Pick some flowers or buy a bouquet of flowers, take a drive. Play some slots, take some citrus type fruit , cinnamon and slow cooker it on the stove to make the house smell good. Citrus can be up lifting.
Just find an activity that you enjoy and do it even if you feel crappie. Get out of the house it can really change your mood.

I know you might not be comforted by this right now, but let me pipe in with my $0.02. Your body is different from everyone else's, but only up to a point. If you follow your doctor's post-op diet, you will lose weight. Maybe not at the rate you would like, but you will lose. This is when you have to take yourself in hand and breathe through the frustration. Time will pass whether you stress out or not. But it will pass more pleasantly if you try to relax. Don't get me wrong, I felt the same way you do at the beginning of my post-op period. Someone on this board gave me the same advice I'm passing on to you. Good luck. I look forward to reading about your progress.
