Banded yesterday 4/21/11
Yes! Congratulations! I am a few days into mushies and can't complain. Started exercising too. Am a bit bummed as I am so out of shape that walking 3 miles on the road made my back sore! EEEK! Fluids are the key - keep sipping away and you'll be fine! Good luck!

BACK TO THE GYM
Thats great! I've been walking a bunch and counting the days till i can get back on the Bike. My doctor was frowning on the idea of Mountain Biking during recovery. I feel like I'm starting at square one - every time I try to push the walking I get totally wiped out, I'm not sure if its lack of calories or just lost all my fitness. Good luck at the Gym !

Post surgery
So its been over a week and I'm back to normal (new normal) - working and hiking and walking and life as usual. Except for one thing. ... I'm not hungry ...have been forgetting to eat (I'm still on liquids) and am having a hard time getting all my protein and calories in because I'm just not hungry. It must be the band working! I cant believe it. Still looking forward to mushies - two weeks of post op liquids ends on Wednesday! Hallelujer!! But this new normal is so wierd...I'm just not focused on food anymore....I feel free. I hope it keeps going in this direction!

OPINION S P L E A S E from those who have had
Hi Tom, If you are farther East - I used Dr. Mehta - she has offices in Patchogue and Riverhead. They have a large support staff and I have been very happy with them. I was banded last Wednesday. Good Luck!

Here it is! The April 2011 NSV! A place to brag on yourself and share achievements that have nothing to do with the scale. Anything from ~ "I just walked a mile without sucking wind" to "I climbed Mt. Everest with 1 arm tied behind my back" or even "I no longer have to take medicine for diabetes" So Go on and share your victories!

Post surgery
Yes, I was thirsty all the time and had cotton mouth if I didn't have some liquids going in. I'm not on clear liquids just regular liquids and having to really concentrate to get it in. The warm broth goes down the easiest and then the most liquidy protein shake takes a while to get in, but I feel so much better once i have some calories and protein in me. Try sucking on ice chip to help your dry mouth. It helped me a lot. Good luck! Vanessa

Post surgery
Hole in the liver? How does that happen? Hopefully you'll be mending soon. I'm just out of the hospital now. It was great , I shared a room with another lap bander and we had a good time. Got up a few times in the night .....walked around to make sure i got rid of the gas. Had pain killers every few hours. Was hooked uo to iv fluids for the duration, with antibiotics and anti naseua medicine just to be on the safe side. This morning they brought us down to radiology for an esophogram to make sure everything was moving through the band. It was so cool to see the band and port on a screen and then see the barium moving through. Going to spend the rest of the day at home chilling with the dogs and husband. I just feel like i did 300000 sit-ups and am a bit groggy from the meds. Be well and keep up the healing! Cheers to the new life! Vanessa

Getting to Know You
I love Quarter horses too! My first was a giant Halter horse from the Impressive line... lets just say he was real good at standing and not so good at goin'! I called him Chunk. ha! I always wanted to do barrels, but out here everyone is into the hunter/jumper world and polo. I love trail riding and found that mountain biking on the trails here was a good substitute when I was horseless. I'm definitely look forward to riding again! 4 days to surgery...yikes~

Pre-Op Appointment was today!

Pre-Diet
Day 2 of liquids....not as bad as I thought! I'm feeling very full from the shakes and chai tea, water and soups. Miso soup is my saviour..45cal and 3g of protein for a snack! The only draw back to so little calories is lack of energy when i'm out biking. Going in to the hospital today for my pre-op bloodwork...and last meeting with the dr.... So excited!

Getting to Know You
Hi EmptyNest, I too am a horse lover...been looking at my chaps hanging on the back of my office door...day dreaming of when I can fit into them again....i had them made custom when I was skinny many years ago...I'm hoping to be up and riding this summer..I was feeling bad for the horses lately...my last horse was a ClydeTB cross..he and I were a match made in heaven... What type of horses do you have? Do you ride English or western or endurance? Good luck on the journey!
