Honey that's how you a** got so big!
too funny. I wish I were as quick witted Yeah, the husbands can be a piece of work -- my DH has made some interesting remarks that I choose to overlook because if I didn't I'd probably smack him -- and it is funny, my husband as a "renewed" interest in exercising . . . hmmmm. . . .

How long does does the gas pains last after surgery
I double what Lydia said -- deep breathing exercises really helped me -- it took about 2 weeks for the pain to subside. Feel better soon!

Thanksgiving - What is going to be hardest for you?
Well, I'm not cooking the 20 pound turkey I bought for 3 people Seriously, it's just me, my DH and my youngest son. So, I'm thinking we'll get a rotisserie chicken, I'll make some stuffing for them (god, I loooooooove stuffing -- maybe I won't make it), mashed potatoes (love them too, but can't get away with not making it), and green beans, and maybe a pie -- I know I'll eat the chicken first and then won't be able to eat anything else. sigh. And, if I don't make much of anything else, DH and son will eat everything before I can come up for air. That's the plan and I'm sticking to it

Doctor begs me not to have LapBand 2 weeks prior to surgery!
I, too, wanted a lapband, but my doctor said he wouldn't even perform it. So, I was left with no other option (really did not want RNY) -- and I couldn't be happier!! I really think your doctor has done you a great service. You will not be unhappy

hic-ups?
I want hiccups!! I get nauseated -- I can be in the middle of chewing a bite and get a nauseated feeling and if I get that, I KNOW I better not swallow -- otherwise I will be praying to the porcelain goddess! Hiccups are MUCH daintier!

Interesting BMI calculator uses male/female/age
Thanks for sharing -- it's interesting, after looking at both of them, I still think that my initial goal of 165 (I'm 5'9", age 46) is about right -- the initial BMI calculator put me at 183 (which is the preferred weight for average people) which I think is WAY too high, but put the preferred weight for my husband at 162 (we're the same height) -- 20 pounds more for a woman!! I think I'm just sticking with getting into normal BMI territory -- otherwise it becomes too confusing

Average Weight???
Tiff -- this is a great website -- he's got lots of good stuff on here -- thanks so much for sharing

Has Anyone Cheated On Their Post-Op Diet?
While I haven't cheated, just the experience trying to eat has given me enough reasons not to want to cheat -- learning when I was full, what foods I can and cannot tolerate, and the change in my own tastebuds have taught me that I should just stick with the plan. Trust me, you don't want to be able to cheat!

Need a pep talk, PLEASE!
Thanks everyone -- I kinda feel ridiculous now (Water fountain has stopped) -- I'm thinking that something is going on inside (release of hormones??) -- you all are exactly right, volunteer, get to know people, etc. -- in fact, you all gave me advise I would have given someone else (isn't that the best -- you all are so wonderful! ) In any case, I'm not a wreck anymore -- don't really know what my water fountain was about, BUT!!! I didn't eat over it (don't really have the desire to) -- so, whether it's hormones (ugh), real emotions coming out from not eating over them, whatever, THANK YOU!! I know one thing I have to be thankful for - you guys --

Need a pep talk, PLEASE!
Thanks guys -- I really really mean it. I don't know what I'd do without everyone on the board -- you guys are life savers! I've been thinking about my roller coaster emotions today and yesterday, and I really do think it's because I miss my family and friends in the States SOOOO much and because of the holidays coming up, I can't eat over it. Gosh, this is ridiculous, I am a literal fountain of Water today -- anyway, I think if I went back to the bad habits I would have eaten a ton of chocolate by now (and I don't really like it anymore - sob!) I know that they tell you when you go in for surgery that you will have to work on the "whys" of your eating, but WHO KNEW that you could cry over stuff that normally wouldn't have had you all worked up . . . I don't know if I'm making sense, rambling on like I am -- but this is a very interesting (to say the least) experience for me -- a time when I would normally pig out is now water fountain time. Hopefully, with time my emotions will be more under control (crossing fingers). Thanks so so so much you guys -- you don't know what it means to me just to have everyone's support. Really, you guys are the best -- biggest hugs ever (amidst the water fountain).

Need a pep talk, PLEASE!
Hi Everyone - I feel kinda awkward about being sad, but I need someone to give me a pep talk -- here it is -- As many of you know, I just moved to Paraguay to be with my husband who is a diplomat with the US govt. Ok, well, when you move to an Embassy, it's kinda like high school all over again. You have cliques, you have the "in" group, yada yada. So, it's Thanksgiving this week, and 2 weeks ago, we decided to invite people to our house because my two oldest children are in the States for Thanksgiving and it would be just the 3 of us. Well, after all the invites, we find out that EVERYONE has other plans and we were not included. I don't know if it was just oversight or what, but I'm so sad. And then on top of it, I haven't been losing any weight the past two weeks -- last week I gained .4 pounds (not a big deal, I know, and end of my period, etc.) but I've actually gone up another 1/2 pound this week. And I'm doing everything right -- exercise, Protein first, low carbs, all the Water. And the thing of it is, if I had not been sleeved, I would be eating over all of this. So my emotions are running wild -- I can't stop crying (I know it's a little over the top), I want to be able to say, "oh well, it's not a big deal" about Thanksgiving, but I just can't seem to do that. And I want to be able to say that as long as I'm doing the right thing, my weight will come off. I don't know if this makes any sense, but if any of you had any words of wisdom, I would really, really appreciate it!

I'm MAJOR P.O'd HERE!!!!
I'm sorry, but I'd call him on it -- it's a bold faced lie and if he is being two-faced about it, I'd want to know -- he can't say one thing to you and then say another to someone else. It would be a serious face-to-face talk (with maybe some ninja moves thrown in ) -- but really, I cannot take someone not being honest with me or with someone else -- and frankly, I think the worst is that he did it behind your back. Ok, I'm getting off my soap box . . .

I am such a failure!!!
I agree with everyone -- you can't keep focusing on what happened or you'll send yourself into a nosedive -- you should use this as a learning experience -- some of us have no desire for sweets and others of us do -- and now you know that you need to seriously think about what and why you're eating. This is not something that your sleeve can take care of -- you'll need to "strengthen" your mind. Right now, I'm reading "Eat it Up!" by Connie Stapleton who writes about what we as WLS people need to think about post-op. I really recommend it. So, please, don't continue to beat yourself up -- use this as a learning experience -- we've all burned our hand on the stove, and now we avoid doing it to avoid the pain. Right now you're in pain (mental pain, that is) because of what you ate -- ok, so now use it as your "stove top" experience, ok??? (Plus, you're not a failure -- you're human! Everyone flubs up ) Hugs!

In Pain!
Feel better both of you-- this is the hardest part -- I wasn't feeling good until 5 days after surgery, and then wasn't feeling normal until 2 weeks after surgery -- so, give it sometime, don't overdo it, and just rest and recover.

Milestone reached!!
Wow!! Congratulations! that is just awesome -- you should tell us more about your story -- I'd love to hear it -- congratulations again

Who is coming for dinner?
Blackberry you're hysterical -- that's like getting the dog to sit under the table while you feed him Seriously, I think the hiatal hernia is a good excuse. I don't know that you're going to be able to hide something like that from a close relative for long -- the small bites and restriction last forever -- that said, if you just don't want to disclose now, then tell her it's the hernia. I find with my friends, that because I'm eating and talking, that they don't notice my food intake because I eat so much slower than they do. By the time their finished with their much bigger portions, I'm finishing mine. You can also space stuff out on your plate, so it looks like you're taking a lot but you're taking just a couple of bites of everything.

clammy, dizzy, pale, numb????
Sounds like low blood sugar to me -- can you drink any fruit juices or anything?
