training for a 5 k
I'm doing the C25k as well -- it took me forever to get the ability to run week one, but now I"m loving it. They also have a 5k run training page as well (different than the Couch to 5 k) -- I think they recommend that you are able to run 15 - 20 miles per week for 6 months before running a 5 k -- but since I've never run one (yet!), I don't know if this is uber conservative or not . . .

That's so great to have someone recognize all your hard work -- even if they don't get it exactly right -- you earned that compliment Revel in it! Great job!

NSV x2, hopefully not TMI
Big congrats Kathy -- it feels awesome to have everyone notice your hard work And to have people not recognize you at all -- how awesome is that

Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In
Hey all -- checking in on my weigh in day -- thanks to my TOM (that ol' biddy) I lost a grand total of .2 lbs. yep. .2 lbs. I look at it this way, I lost during my TOM -- soo, onward and downward, right? But, I've had some great NSVs -- I'm running now (so that should help weight wise) -- I haven't been able to run in ages -- so I'm very proud of myself. I am in regular size 18s in pants and XLs for shirts (I'm getting desperate because I keep buying and then nothing fits after a month or so) (wish I could go to Goodwill or something but that doesn't exist here in Paraguay) -- anywhoo -- the scale was only gonna cough up a bit, but I'll take the bit! Hope you all had a good week too

Hair is seriously shedding!!!
Oh, and I think some people have had less hair loss with more protein (like you said) -- sigh. It's frustrating and scary . . .
-
Hair is seriously shedding!!!
I've heard some people are taking Biotin supplements and using Biotin shampoo (I am, but I'm still shedding) -- in addition, I was watching a YouTube video where a VSGer was using a shampoo with coffee extract in it (she was in Germany) and said it really helped to stimulate the hair growth -- I don't know if you can find that in the UK, but maybe . . . .

Hair finally growing back in, but with a catch...
You know, I just started shedding this past week and thought, I bet the hair all comes back in gray. sigh. I am 46, so it wouldn't but out of the question, but still!!! I don't currently color my hair (have very few grays) and would like to keep the natural color for as long as possible -- whhaaaaa!! (and another sigh).

I need to tell my sister
Wow -- to be honest, this does not sound like a healthy relationship that you have with your sister at all. I'm wondering if you can go to another doctor -- it's just that she seems to be involved in so many aspects of your life that you don't seem to be able to move without "running into" her. That's not healthy, particularly when she's so controlling. In fact, that's the way a lot of controlling people are -- they seem to NEED to control every aspect of other people's lives. Can you quietly find another family doctor? That will eliminate the need to tell her about the need for the medicine. Then about working for her -- you could just tell her you're not feeling well (which will be the truth). I just don't see the need to tell her because she doesn't NEED to know -- she's your sister, not God. I think that people who are very unhealthy for us shouldn't have complete access to all info about us. You can still be her sister, but you have to set the boundaries -- you have to tell her what information you want to share and withhold the information you don't think will be beneficial for her to know. I haven't told my two brothers for those very same reasons -- they believe that if you control yourself and exercise that you won't have weight problems. Better said than done, in my opinion. I don't know if that helps . . .. hugs.

Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll
Hi -- this is what I was told by my surgeon, but PLEASE note that every surgeon's recommendations are different and you should ask/follow his or her suggestions: 1. sex -- we could have sex within 2 weeks following surgery 2. alcohol -- I was told I could have it now (3 months out) -- BUT from what I've read and learned, alcohol is empty calories -- you will be using up a fair amount of your day's allotted calories on alcohol. In addition, from what I've read, the alcohol immediately passes through the stomach to your small intestines, making you feel buzzed immediately and then it wears out immediately. So, might not be worth it until you're done with the losing phase of your post-op adventure. In addition, you probably should avoid any carbonated drinks -- beer, champagne, spritzers, etc. Hope that helps -- and if I don't have the facts right about alcohol (those who are done losing have a better grip on it) then I'm sure others will chime in.

Anyone taken an appetite suppressant post op?
I second what Irene said -- the carbs are a killer -- good luck and let us know how it goes!

Oh no, Oh no no no no no
So glad the scale moved for you -- I know how frustrating it can be to have a scale not move when you're doing everything right -- but I think the big advantage to you figuring this out is the help that it gives us (to be selfish) -- now we know that should we ever get in a situation like you did, to really up the calories and see what happens. I'm really glad this worked -- the worst part is that I was reading and couldn't figure out what to say differently than everyone else -- so hooray!
