I'm pregnant!!
I think a lot of people troll and then there are people like me who re-check the threads they are interested in Plus, on the more empathetic side, there may be some for whom this thread is a painful reminder of what they have not been able to accomplish. While that is no excuse not to say congratulations, I know, personally, that 15 years ago it would have been hard because I so wanted to be pregnant but couldn't . . . .

Eating out
I always order and bring stuff home -- usually my hubby will eat half of mine, but then I have half to bring home -- so, I save it for lunch the next day. Like today we went out to a German restaurant and (I LOVE LOVE LOVE German food) I ordered what I wanted knowing I'd reheat and eat tomorrow -- it was a steak wrapped around bacon and onions. Yum it was good. But I could eat 3 bites. sigh. I really really really wanted to pig out and eat the entire plate (which could have served 2) but my reality is like everyone else's here. sigh. I just always order steak and then I can bring it home and reheat and make it into steak sandwiches, steak salad, whatever.

Would like some feedback. . .
I stopped my PPI at 3 months too -- no real problem with acid (a couple of days here and there and then I took the PPI) but I haven't had acid in weeks now. So I'm pretty happy with that. I'm eating 3 meal a day too -- but I do have a snack occasionally.

Should I tell my dad??
You know, I have to agree with pumpkin. I have a college freshman myself. Even though he feels, and we want him to feel, that he is old enough and mature enough and responsible enough to be on his own, he is still our child. We are still paying for him to go to school, etc. And frankly, until he is paying his own way, we feel that he is obligated to treat us as though we had final say in important matters. If he had major surgery (which this is) and didn't tell me, I would be royally, royally pissed. Now, I TOTALLY understand why you didn't tell him, don't get me wrong. I really, really do. BUT Many years ago my Mother in law did not inform my husband and me about my father in law's surgery for colon cancer. It wasn't until after the surgery, after he had his colon completely removed and was being treated for invasive cancer did she let us know. I was pissed. This was someone I loved and I would have liked to have been there or at least been given the opportunity to pray. She thought she was doing us a favor by not having us worry. wrong. That said, I really understand why you and your mom decided not to tell your dad. I do think you will need to sit him down, find a day when he does not feel like he's being criticized, and ask him to listen and then you will listen to him. (Cars are a great place to do this in because both people are strapped in and have to listen.) Tell him 1) you were afraid of the criticism; 2) you felt you needed to do this for your health; 3) you've never felt better about yourself; 4) you hope that he will give you his support and love even though you know that withholding the information was probably not a good idea. Hopefully he will listen. You will have to listen to him too and accept the fact that he will feel angry and hurt. I promise you that in the end, it will be better -- a lie is always hard to overcome, but you can do it!! Let us know what happens -- hugs!

Can I be completely honest?
I didn't have a catheter either. They stop you from eating and drinking well before the surgery, so there's not a lot left inside of you . . . and then when they put the IV in, they want to make sure everything is functioning, so they kept checking to see how much I peed, with measuring cup, etc. (gross). So no catheter.

Average Weight???
Hey Globe -- don't know if you noticed, but he explains that "ideal" is the standard dr's chart -- not what people normally weigh. For example, my "ideal" is 145. Ha. I'm never going to weigh that. What people normally weigh who are my age and height is 188. I don't want to weigh that either (it's outside of normal BMI). But I think my goal of 165 is good (it's just a little under my normal BMI) and maybe if I'm lucky, I can get to 155. But in the 140s, ha. I was 140 when I was 18 which was almost 30 years ago. I think he gives the 2 extremes so you know where you lie, so to speak.

my story from preop to now, almost 9mths postop
Dawn, that was a great story -- and I too read the whole thing -- I know your frustration about not being able to talk to anyone -- my family is kinda sick of the "weight loss" talk now and so this board is about the only outlet I have -- so thank you so much for sharing -- it is amazing that we don't know how bad we were feeling before. Thanks! BIG HUGS!

Oh my, talk about a little violent -- it's ok to be gung ho for your own weight loss surgery, but to want to "cut their vocal chords"?? wow.

Food aware
Prior to the sleeve, I obsessed about food, I loved to cook, I guess my life revolved around when and where I was going to eat. And I LOVED to eat out. Now, I rarely think about food. I don't really like to cook, but since I"m the best at it in our family, I do it. ugh. I don't really care if we eat out or not -- I do order an entire plate for myself and my husband knows that he's required to eat what's leftover What has changed is my love affair with Water -- I usually have a couple of cups of coffee in the morning, but then I really want water. I don't know what it is -- before the sleeve I never thought about drinking very much -- I don't remember feeling like I needed to drink -- I loved drinking soda solely for the taste, but now I just want to drink! weirdness.

Do you sleep hunger free?
I'm not hungry ever. BUT when I was first sleeved, I had HORRIBLE acid. And it used to keep me up -- so I made sure I ate something before I went to bed. It seemed to calm my stomach down enough so that I could sleep. Hope that helps!

Rewards?
I just want good clothes -- I've been doing Lane Bryant for soooo long that I don't even know what my style is. sigh. So I think my reward will be to fly back to the States, and shop like Diva. I just am sooo looking forward to being "normal."

So lost in regular women's clothing!
Oh I'm so glad this subject is being talked about -- Besides the bra issue (which I really can't do much about down here in Paraguay now), I've been looking online for some decent clothes . . . Here's my dilemma -- I can shop at Old Navy, which is fine and cheap and etc. But I would like to daydream and/or shop at other stores -- I don't know where to even start! What stores do you all shop in?? I've looked at Ann Taylors (way too expensive), Talbots (the same), but I'm clueless as to what to look for . . . I've always shopped at Lane Bryant or Old Navy. sigh. And since I'm 46 (almost 47), I don't want to look like a teenie bopper -- young, yes, but something like Forever21 I think would be too young, don't you think?? Please help, because yesterday I cried over this (seems silly when I used to cry over the fact that I couldn't find decent clothes in my bigger size) -- I guess I'm frustrated because I currently have only 2 pairs of pants that I can wear (and they are 2 sizes too big) and 4 shirts. I keep ordering from Old Navy only to find out that I guess wrong and it's too big. (another reason for the tears). I sooo want to be back in the States so I can shop regularly and figure everything out -- Can anyone give me some good online stores that have cute clothes that are not out of this world expensive (so that I don't throw my money away after losing more??)? Thanks so much! Oh, and about the bras, I measured myself and am ordering online . . . sigh. Crossing my fingers.

Sizzilng September Sleevers Monday Check In
Hey all! Today's my weigh in day -- don't know quite what's going on, but I've been losing like there's no tomorrow -- I haven't done anything different, so go figure. So this week I lost 7.2 pounds (biggest loss since I started out!) -- and I just zoomed past the 220s -- again, I have no idea what's going on, but I'll take it! Hope everyone else is doing well!

Gallbladder out almost a year ago
Tiff, I'm so sorry this is happening -- I have no experience with it but I would really like it if you'd keep us up to date -- I'm a worrier and I will worry if I don't know if everything is a-ok. Take care! hugs!

So frustrated! Please help!
Hi Megan -- our bodies do not lose weight at a steady decline -- they lose weight, then try to "adjust" and then lose weight again -- kind of like a stair step. It's pretty normal about 2 - 3 weeks out to have a small stall, meaning you won't lose, you might gain a little, or maybe lose a teeny amount. That's ok. You really cannot help but lose it eventually. Look at the long term picture -- you're in it for the long term, so what you weigh today or even next week will not matter next year! There is a great thread that talks about weight loss and how our bodies actually lose -- I'll post it if I can find it. In any case, cheer up -- you will lose it -- I stalled around my 3 week and felt like crying every day (I think I did actually) -- but then after 2 weeks I started losing again. If you do what you're supposed to do (Protein first, drink Water, get some exercise), you will lose -- guarantee!

Serious doubts after visit with surgeon (long)
I think if you have serious reservations about WLS, you shouldn't do it. To have WLS, you must prepare for a lifetime change. The change includes what you eat, how you eat, your physical activity, everything. I think it's wise to hold off if you're not prepared both mentally and physically to do what is required. And I'm not saying that you're not prepared to change, but maybe you're not at the stage of realization that another diet is not going to work like many of us have already realized. Please don't get me wrong -- I really really think you're wise to hold off -- it's better to hold off and then be sure than to jump into it and not be mentally and physically ready. Good luck and I hope that with time you'll figure out what you need to do
