On My Way!
The pain can be pretty intense the first 24 hours, but they give you drugs to control it. After 24 hours I would say it slightly less than my Csections. I would guess if they cut you from ovary to ovary you have a pretty good idea what a csection is like.

Short Term Disability
My short term disability was from Aflac and some IMRF (state employees fund) and they required a note from the doctor that it was medically necessary for the surgery. My doctor said yes without a doubt. I also filled out FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) to protect my job in this economy and also to get the surgery on my schedule and not my job schedule.

Wait!! what's this about no ibuprophen or tylenol?
Also Fiorinal for headaches has Aspirin.

Wait!! what's this about no ibuprophen or tylenol?
Anything that contains Aspirin or say Non steriodial anti inflammatory is a no no 2 weeks before the surgery. It thins the blood. A list of common drugs that are NSAIDS: NSAIDs : non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs Aspirin (Anacin, Ascriptin, Bayer, Bufferin, Ecotrin, Excedrin) Choline and magnesium salicylates (CMT, Tricosal, Trilisate) Choline salicylate (Arthropan) Celecoxib (Celebrex) Diclofenac potassium (Cataflam) Diclofenac sodium (Voltaren, Voltaren XR) Diclofenac sodium with misoprostol (Arthrotec) Diflunisal (Dolobid) Etodolac (Lodine, Lodine XL) Fenoprofen Calcium (Nalfon) Flurbiprofen (Ansaid) Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin, Motrin IB, Nuprin) Indomethacin (Indocin, Indocin SR) Ketoprofen (Actron, Orudis, Orudis KT, Oruvail) Magnesium salicylate (Arthritab, Bayer Select, Doan's pills, Magan, Mobidin, Mobogesic) Meclofenamate sodium (Meclomen) Mefenamic acid (Ponstel) Meloxicam (Mobic) Nabumetone (Relafen) Naproxen (Naprosyn, Naprelan*) Naproxen sodium (Aleve, Anaprox) Oxaprozin (Daypro) Piroxicam (Feldene) Rofecoxib (Vioxx) Salsalate (Amigesic, Anaflex 750, Disalcid, Marthritic, Mono-Gesic, Salflex, Salsitab) Sodium salicylate (various generics) Sulindac (Clinoril) Tolmetin sodium (Tolectin) Valdecoxib (Bextra) Note: Some products, such as Excedrin, are combination drugs (Excedrin is acetaminophen, aspirin, and caffeine). Note that acetaminophen (Paracetamol; Tylenol) is not on this list. Acetaminophen belongs to a class of drugs called analgesics (pain relievers) and antipyretics (fever reducers). The exact mechanism of action of acetaminophen is not known. Acetaminophen relieves pain by elevating the pain threshold, that is, by requiring a greater amount of pain to develop before it is felt by a person. It reduces fever through its action on the heat-regulating center of the brain. Specifically, it tells the center to lower the body's temperature when the temperature is elevated. Acetaminophen relieves pain in mild arthritis but has no effect on the underlying inflammation, redness and swelling of the joint. Paracetamol, unlike other common analgesics such as aspirin and ibuprofen, has no anti-inflammatory properties, and so it is not a member of the class of drugs known as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs or NSAIDs.

Exercising with the WII
2 thumbs up for Wii Fit Plus here! I really like the step program and how it weighs you and tells you how many calories you burned for how long!
-
Pardom me if this has been asked
I did a search and did not come up with an answer. When can you have salad again???? Out of all things out there, I am craving salad!
-
First Goal
You look amazing!

Brand new on this journey
I can't speak to the effects of hunger from plication as I had the sleeve. I can tell you that hunger is a thing of the past! I love it. I do sometimes get a sense I should eat something, but NOTHING like before, 4 or 5 well chewed bites and my new tiny tummy tells me that I am done! I fully satisfied with that amount of food. Best of luck on your decision.

Started working out!
I got a Wii fit Plus for Cmas and I have been messing with the WII part for a a week or so doing some of the sports. Last night I got the WiI Fit Plus board hooked up and I LOVE IT! Worked out 30 minutes last night and 30 minutes tonight. I really like the Step activity. The board measures your weight and BMI and then tells you how many calories you burned. I have not ran since I can remember when I actually ran in place tonight AND finished the activity!

Got my date
Yeah!!!!!

If I could do a pre-op diet....
The carb monster is fighting you! Stick with the low carb a few days and you will be surprised at how much better it gets. Also, you need to cut out carbs to be successful after surgery.

What are the symptoms of a leak?
Here is an exert from another post: I am one of those who developed a leak "just because," although it was probably surgeon's error as it was in my esophagus, away from the suture line. We found mine 2 weeks 2 days post op, i felt great up until the day I developed a 104 degree fever, and had EXTREME Pain in my left side (worse than childbirth pain). I went to the ER twice - after the second time, they did a CT scan and found the small leak. I developed sepsis, my entire abdomen was infected and I had to have 3 more surgeries to clean it out and fix things.
-
Severe pain under left rib
I hope you are ok, you have more will power than I. I would have been at the ER already!

Getting sleeved tomorrow! (1/4/2011)

Back to Work....
I am 5 weeks out and I take Greek Yogurt or a couple pieces of carl budding lunch meat and a cheese stick. I also get those little tuna snack packs and through away the crackers. I have taken a chicken breast that I had out and had to split into 5 meals. I just cut it and put each one in a baggie and took it on different days and reheated in the microwave. I have taken sf pudding, cottage cheese and I get this sugar free Jello parfait at the dollar tree as well as their frozen mozzarella sticks that I microwave. There are 6 frozen ones in a package for a dollar and and I microwave 3 of them per lunch and it that is all I can eat! I am taking soup this week as well as a storage bowl because I can only get in about a 1/2 cup of soup per meal and it is such a waste to not finish the can. Don't forget to take your Water or tea for the day!!!, and your Vitamins. I think the biggest thing to get used to is the head still thinks of how much we packed for a pre sleeve lunch and it feels like we need more than 3 cheese sticks for the day, but really it almost too much! So here goes, I have to be at work at 7 so I take my Preimer Protein shake with also. 7 to 8 am Premier Protein Shake, Vitamin and Calcium 9-10:30 water 11 lunch, vitamin and b12 12-1 water 130 sf pudding, or cottage cheese. or jello, Calcium 2-3 water At home after work I continue with water or tea Hubby doesn't get home till 630 so then he wants to go get something to eat. I go with and order soup and then have about 3 bites of his chicken and a veggie sometimes followed by Iron. I find after all that drinking during the day I really have NO hunger in evening and have to force myself to eat a little protein. If I don't I feel it in the morning and want to EAT.

Another Newbie needs advise
Nothing about getting any WLS is cheating! It is hard work and takes lots of commitment just to get it done. Then you have the very real work of facing your fears and going through with the surgery. After surgery you have to heal and adjust. Cheating at weight loss to me suggests the ability to find an easy fast way to loose weight. After healing we all have to make the right choices in food and exercise Nothing easy there~.

Failed Psych Eval
Juli, I too baked like crazy for Cmas, I enjoy it as part of the holiday. However I had zero desire to eat the cookies. In the past I would have ate them even from the freezer. I was nervous about going back to work because it is a glutton fest there around the holidays and much to my surprise even though the candy and cookies were right there in the room with us I had zero desire to have them! I did treat myself to a cookie last night as a New Year celebration and gift for not having one thing for the entire Holiday season! It was good but, it did not provide the same enjoyment as it did pre surgery. There is definitely something to this surgery curing far more than the fat. Dr Oz had a show on about the brain and bowels and he said they both are very similar in cells and receptors. I hope they figure out what in the receptors of some cause this crazy need to feed! Surely there something in the stomach that sets it off in the first place.
