  1. I think it comes back as you introduce more foods, kinda like when you have had a bad case of the flu and nothing seems good for a couple weeks. I think all the same things make food good to us are messed up after losing a good portion of our stomachs not to mention all those surgical meds floating around in our bodies. I am now about 3 months out and I have found that food in general is not big thing like it used to be. Once in a while I will get a taste for something,, like a couple of weeks ago for some reason I wanted fried pickles like no ones business, I had one and was done. My husband wants to eat out all the time and I have found healthy ways to do it,, LOTS OF chicken. However he always asks me where to go and I really don't care, I have no desire for the old stuff, my only stipulation is that it be a place where I can get something that is not fried.
  2. Congrats Kimme! Great to see that scale in the 100's!
  3. I took 5 weeks. Could have I have gone back sooner physically? Yes. Mentally, I am glad I took the time. For me just eating or drinking at that point was REAL WORK and my job is stressfull and I know I could not have concentrated on it, so maybe physically it was a good thing to take the time too. At 5 weeks I still was learning what food would go down. On my second day back I was eating yogurt and some carl budding and I had to talk on the radio and did not chew enough. The meat formed a gate and I WAS IN PAIN! I had to wait for someone to take my place and I had to get rid of it. That happened a couple more times in the fist couple of weeks back. Now I chew and chew and chew and chew and have made an agreement with my co worker that if I do not answer the radio during lunch she keeps and eye on it because even now, while things are not getting stuck so much I find it hard to talk right after a swallow. It has been all about getting to know the new stomach and perhaps a bit of esophogeal spasm issue with the hard to talk thing. So it is a very personal thing about how soon. Personally I am glad I took the time to LEARN the new me, I think the old me never learned to listen to physical signals of when enough was enough or what was too fast when eating.
  4. Congrats and Welcome to Losers Bench!
  5. Congrats! Best of luck to you on your journey! I too look forward to the Victoria Secret day! I have already had a couple of "NORMAL" moments, like the day we were at the mall and I could buy a cute pink sweatshirt at the Disney store right of the rack! I have not been able to do that in 20 years! No more navy blue mens sweatshirts in 2 and 3 xl for me,,, NOW it is Pink or purple and cute!!!
  6. Just wait, the first time you eat chicken,,, 3 bites and your Royal Highness will make herself well KNOWN!
  7. I had an EKG scare too, it came back with "low voltage" I was like great, my heart is going to need a jump start. After being sent to two more doctors, that I had to pay for, they decided it was the EKG machine that had low voltage reading due a bad sticker placement!
  8. Just a word to the wise folks, you should edit your posts with out your email addresses on them and PM the address. There are bots that scan boards for emails and they spam the heck out you!
  9. I think Fage greek yogurt is the best buy far. Love my Torani syrups! Rasberry and Strawberry. Woodmands has the large bottles on sale for 6.19 right now and I lucked out and found a small bottle on clearance at Meijers for 2.00!
  10. I don't remember the recovery room at all! I don't remember getting taken to my room. I remember waking up in my room when my husband was asking me where I wanted my clothes. I had a diluadid pump, not morphine and I hit that button every time I could! They never got me out of bed until the next day after they took my cath out. They had given me a hug bear in pre op along with that damn third grade toy I wanted to break into a million pieces. A word of caution, not everything you think you just thinking while on drugs stays in your brain,,,,,, evidently my thoughts flow freely from my mouth when on drugs. I was told I talked to a girls friend and kept telling how much I love diluadid and when they came in the middle of the night to take blood and so rudely flipped on the lights I thought I was thinking it , but I actually said out load " how F^$@Q$%#^ing rude"! So you have been warned your thoughts may flow freely on drugs:)
  11. I really don't know how after this surgery the portions can be too big? I am lucky to get in 700 calories in a day and to do that 320 are from Protein drinks. It is a lot of work to eat enough now.
  12. I don't do more than 30 carbs a day by my choice. I just broke a nearly month long stall and I don't want to be back in that boat. Also I was a borderline diabetic before surgery so I am very concerned with sugar in my diet. I have pretty much decided to just go and enjoy within reason. I will try very small bites. I have not allowed myself any " treats" since surgery as I know it is a very slippery slope of one thing leading to another.
  13. My co morbilities alone are what I used to rationalize with my doubting before the surgery. I knew I had to get healthy if I wanted to be around for my Grandbabies and be able to enjoy them! I have bulged disks in my lower back and I was in pain on a daily basis, I have a knee with no cartilage and full of arthritis, I had high blood pressure, borderline diabetes and high cholesterol. I am no longer on metformin nor any of the 5 blood pressure meds. While my back and knee will never be "normal" I am no longer in daily pain with them. One other thing I have noticed is my immune system is STRONG! I have not caught any of the colds that my coworkers are sharing and my husband just went through influenza and I did not get that either. I used to get every single illness around me!
  14. Only you know you. For me it boiled down to not trusting myself to continue, especially when life threw me one of its wonder surprises! I had a lifetime of failed diets to prove to myself that I need more than a diet to win this battle.
  15. Just do what you can in a day, focusing on Protein. The first month was real hard to get anywhere near the liquid or protein in. I am at 3 months and it is much easier to drink now, but eating is a struggle to get enough calories. You are doing just fine. The first couple months is just about doing what you can while working toward what you are supposed to. How many of us ever thought we would struggle to eat more??? Great feeling hah?
  16. Oh yeah, I remember the doubting side of my brain trying to rationalize me out of surgery! While I am older than you, I told myself there was no way I was ever going to do it my own, if I could I would have done it by now. With that said some you said sticks out in my mine, the part about only eating 800 calories and doing it on your own, well yeah you could do that, but let me tell you, you will ALWAYS feel deprived, with this surgery 800 calories is a real job to consume in one day!!!!! Let me tell you, I try to up my calories, but I am so full on what I eat now! I did manage to get up to 700 from 550 this week by adding a Protein shake or and Isopure and and a Protein Bar. The great thing about this surgery is the absolute control I have over food now! I am not kidding you when I have about 2 oz of chicken and I am totally satisfied like I just had a huge meal! Imagine that control! I am 47, and I just finished writing in another topic that my one and only regret is that this surgery was not around 20 years ago! Can you imagine fighting the head game of 800 calories for more years and never feeling full? This surgery is freedom over food and the ability to be healthy! Honey please don't live the next 20 years of your life the way I live my last 20. overweight, in a constant battle not really living!
  17. I would be afraid if I got a leg behind my head I would have to call 911!
  18. I have never been a plain water drinker. I used things like Real lemon packets in my water, I found Tazo Tea herbal blends to die for and my new fav is Snapple diet raspberry tea!
  19. My doctor said a couple days either way would not hurt. Perhaps a scrambled egg? Just go slow and see how it settles.
  20. ok so 24 pounds in two weeks? That is HUGE! Why would you want to extend your phases? Follow your doctors plan. Extending phases will not make the weight come off faster. I wanted some big miracle in the weeks following the surgery, they did not happen. Celebrate each pound loss for what it is, when on any diet did we ever lose more than 8 pounds a month??? Celebrate that you feel full on just a few bites, it a new control over food we never had! Celebrate each new food you are allowed to try as your phases progress, and then celebrate how little of it makes full! The weeks to come will bring about amazing changes in your body! You will go through clothes sizes quickly and wonder who the heck is looking back at you in the mirror! Be kind to yourself!
  21. LOL yes you have to use the Dvd's in addition to buying them:) Sorry about your loss, it is hard to stay on track when you are mourning.
  22. Congrats! It is so exciting to get to this point. I remember when I jumped throgh the last hoop and nothing was standing in the way of a date I wanted to dance in the parking lot of the doctors building!
  23. I am nearly 3 months out and my daughter wants me to go to her wedding cake tasting next week. I have expressed to her I am nervous about this because it is not a food I am allowed. Should I put my worries on hold and take a small bite of each cake, no frosting so I don't ruin the moment? I am so torn............
