March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!

Thanks for all of the well wishes. Had my surgery this morning and all is well and recovering. Been up and walking already. Moderate pain due to incisions and hernia repair, but I feel blessed. Thanks again and I’m sorry for all the other March cancellations. I got in under the wire let me tell you. Hospital now on lockdown.

Hi, I suspect mine was postponed due to this...by two. Months. The state I live in is on a proper freak-out so I imagine it's out of an abundance of caution. But two months, though? I'm also not trying to be too bummed about it; I'm just radically accepting it and looking at it as more time to prepare.

March 2020 Surgery Folks Come On in!

I think I have entered what my surgeon called “the tunnel of misery”. I bought so many different broths and soups so I’d have a variety, and the idea of ANY of them makes me nauseous. I also can just BARELY stand the thought of any of the shakes. And I desperately want all the food my husband is cooking for my family. I know I’ll get through it, and it’s worth it, I just needed to share with people who would get it. Also, I’m so sorry to the people who are getting canceled. From my perspective, I am terrified right now about developing complications that could send me back to the hospital in the midst of chaos. For example, I developed a little respiratory rattle in the hospital bc I can’t breathe deeply bc of the pain, and I’m so scared it will develop into pneumonia. Also I feel like while I’m healing my immune system is compromised, so I’m nervous about that too. I don’t mean to devalue the experience of getting your surgery postponed. I would have been devastated. But there are some pros to it. Now will someone help me get out of the Tunnel of Misery?

    Protein Prioritized Dirty Keto

I think for the most part, the diet we follow post-surgery (whether sleeve or bypass) is what is known as protein-prioritized keto (there's a FB group if you are interested). Keep protein high, fats low to moderate, and carbs low. In fact, I really don't understand the (traditional keto) focus on high fat since the reason most people lose weight is because of low carbs. And of course protein is better for you than fat. That said, some people may be more sensitive to fatty foods after bypass (I just had a bypass revision myself and this is something I'm concerned about). I would talk to your doctor/nutritionist to see what they think.

    Feeling Full?

I can feel it like a pressure in the epigastric area, directly under the xiphoid. This was after the MGB as well and it's now the same. With a little time it changes to a "normal" feeling of fullness. It was kind of fascinating feeling this pressure in a little, pretty well defined area only.

Yeah. I was going to start Weight Watchers in case the surgeon requires me to lose weight. But then I decided to wait to see if he requires it. if he does, I want to get credit for all the weight i lose starting with our first appt.

    Changes in relationships PO

wow !!!! I have been discussing this with my sister who will have this surgery next year and my niece who is 8 months out and looking fabulous and she warned me this is inevitable especially with females unfortunately and she told me to be ready with a comeback when they make little negative comments sooooo im gonna just say. I was morbid obese, had high blood pressure ,high cholesterol taking 8 pills a day and had severe sleep apnea sooooo let me get this straight you think I should have stayed like that rather than be and look like this??? WOW and just walk away...…..
