For many years I gained weight strictly due to being lazy and eating poorly. But for the last several years, I have been driving myself crazy because I feel like I have been doing everything I should be doing in terms of eating the right foods (Whole30 and Paleo) and exercising intensely (Obstacle Course Racing and Weight Training) and nothing worked for weight loss. I have often felt like my body and brain were working against my heart and preventing me from achieving what I wanted. In my ongoing research, I recently found another Bariatric Surgeon that post his bariatric videos on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/user/DrMatthewWeiner I found his Informational Seminar video to be much more informative than any other I attended during my search for a local surgeon. One point in particular is the slide I've attached to this post. The stats he shows in this slide are my exact stats. His explanation here is that to gain 100lbs over a 20-year period, a woman only has to eat an average of 50 additional calories per day. Which is basically nothing. This takes into consideration pregnancy weight gain, weight loss, and weight regain over this time period. He affirms that significant weight gain from such a low number of additional calories means that there is actually something else going on besides just eating more calories than you burn. And as many of us suspect, it is due to hormonal and metabolic changes because of both age and changes that occur from diets you go on. This alone lifted a huge weight off my shoulders. Because I am not crazy after all, my brain and body were working against me. And surgery can help me get back to where I want to be. It further confirms my decision to have this surgery and use it merely as one tool in my arsenal to regain my health! I wanted to share this for anyone else has felt like they were crazy and wondered endlessly why diet and exercised worked from everyone else but you...

    Pills after surgery

I crushed my pills for the first 6 weeks, then I was cleared to swallow pills. I even found a bariatric vitamin that I can swallow instead of chew.

    First Stall

@Mattymatt Its not about how fast we run the race, its about crossing the finish line! We will all hit a stall once, twice, or even more throughout our journey. Its about staying positive and not letting it send you into a downward spiral.

Its not hunger it’s acid reflux. Make sure you’re on a proton pump inhibitor. If you’re on one you may need to up the dose. Really common to have acid during the healing phase and it mimics a gnawing hunger. That timing and reaction are pretty classic for acid.

    Popcorn

I have popcorn on occasion, no issues with it. I have Act II 94% fat free, 15 calories per cup, popped. It's no no guilt way to satisfy that salty crunchy, snacky craving.

    Tummy Tuck

I didn't have a tummy tuck but insurance did pay for apron surgery (panniculectomy). It was just the big overhang of skin. I started out at 520lbs and by the time I have lost 200lbs I had a tremendous amount of skin. It has been a little over a year since that surgery and I've since lost another 100lbs. I am in need of a second apron surgery. I'm hoping insurance pays again but if not I am considering self pay full body lift.

    Popcorn

The only problem with popcorn is that there is hardly any nutrition in popcorn. It's just a starch. If I want something that would be more on the side of a special treat, I'll at least eat something that is fairly protein dense. Today, I wanted a treat so I ate 1 chicken tender for dinner. I had a little of Sweet Baby Ray's BBQ sauce which is a favorite of mine.

Hey Glamgirl! This is my first post since surgery on April 18th and I feel like I got run over by a truck. I hope that's normal! I'm exhausted and getting enough liquids is a challenge for sure, especially since I have the dreaded "D" (diarrhea). I'm so glad to hear that you are doing well! I keep telling myself it will get better!! Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Frustr8

The stress of taking control of my life.

@okayestmom we all need the rant forum at times. I just gently read the tiot act to a young poster on another thread. Among my other benefits/detriments I am a grandma and I hate to stand by and watch a younger person royally screw up their life without trying to intercede. Would I have, listened at posters age? Yes I would have, maybe a tad naive, maybe too strictly, raised, but I did tend to listen to my elders because that was the way I was taught. Don't feel guilty about spending the money. You are worthy to make this step and I think you should make this step. If not today then when, if not now, do not take the risk of never. Did that, never will again for you see, today is also my day to step forward and shine in my own life. Keep me updated, I want to know how things go👵😛
