Good morning everyone, I hope this finds you in great spirits, considering it's Friday, I must say I am. With saying that, after seeing what Harvey did to my state, I am very concerned for our pals in Florida. For those of you who are having to go through this horrible storm and you have BCBS, please know, we are allowing emergency overrides for your RX's. They can be processed at your network retail pharmacies. If you have active RX's w/ your retail or mail order pharmacies, if you have to leave and go to another location, those Rx's can be transferred over to another pharmacy and the override will be permitted. I send you all love and prayers, Texas stands w/ you!

    Honest about the struggle

Everything you're feeling is completely normal. The first couple of months pretty much suck. You just had major surgery, you're sore, tired, hungry, trying to figure out the whole eating thing mentally and socially. And yes, I think all of our expectations about surgery were pretty much wonky. We hear about these massive weight loss numbers, and for some reason think we are going to be at goal and living happily ever after in 6 months. That's far from realistic for most of us. The 3rd week stall is a completely normal thing that happens to 99% of WLS patients. And besides, weight loss isn't linear. If you look at it on a chart, it looks more like step on stairs than a straight line downward. We stall, go up, go down, and sometimes back up again. Then we have a whoosh, and boom...down 5 pounds. It's really strange! Take it from someone who is almost 4 years out...it gets better. Once you get into more normalcy and into a groove, you'll start feeling better about your new lifestyle. I feel completely normal other than I get full faster than other folks. And it's not even as fast as it used to be anymore, unfortunately. Don't stress, and just go with the flow. Take this time to learn all you can about health and nutrition in order to be as successful as possible losing--and more importantly---keeping the weight off. I won't even go into what a complete pain in the ass that is! Hang in there. I promise it will get better.

    First cheat since pre-op

Forgive yourself and move on, try to avoid it in the future. It's not the WORST thing you could've eaten, right? You'll do better from now on Always, always carry your healthy snacks! it's the thing that keeps me on track 7 months later!

I had a gall bladder surgery 3 years prior to my VSG. My gallbladder surgery was started laparoscopically and they ended up opening me up due to a rare but serious complication (Mirazzi's syndrome which is when a stone is impacted in one of the hepatic ducts) I had surgery in Mexico but I did all of my lab work in the US with my PCP and advised my surgeon in advance of my prior surgery. The surgeon actually removed some of the scar tissue which was great because certain movements caused me abdominal pain due to adhesions. Truthfully there's not much they can predict until they get in there.

Had an NSV yesterday. I ran the best mile of my life. I was always very slow, still am, but much faster than I once was. I'm pretty proud of my 17 minute mile. Now to push to get down to 10 minutes.

    Feeling Dizzy

Call your doctor, check your blood pressure and glucose. Eat some carbs! Just a little. I was dizzy and dragging ass until I got my carbs up to around 50.

    A whole new life

Jesus, your boyfriend sounds like an @sshole. I totally understand that he didn't have surgery and doesn't have to change his lifestyle, but it wouldn't kill him to be a little more considerate in the first few months. The first month can be very difficult emotionally. I've seen people literally fall apart and get sloppy wet crying face feeling that they were a failure because they had to resort to surgery. Those same people today are happier than ever and more confident than they have ever been since I have known them. Stay the course, follow the plan, and things will get better.

I wasn't diagnosed pre-op but I know for a fact I had a food addiction and was beginning a binge/purge cycle. I had been doing pretty well and was being super strict with myself for about 5 months. For the last 3, I've been telling myself 'one won't kill me', or 'I'll just work it off later'. But that, just a few bites of chips or pasta have turned into binge fests where I eat more than I should until I feel sick. And I keep doing it. I feel so at a loss.
