I onytold my husband and the woman I work with...and I am SO glad! I have only lost 6 pounds since surgery (almost a month ago). I can tell the woman I work with looks at my lunch so I am glad no one else knows. I guess I wouldn't mind as much if I had a good weight loss, but that's no the case yet. I don't need the food police around me-I have enough stress! I look at it this way...it's my journey and I own it. I guess sometimes it would be nice to talk to others about it-someday, just not yet!

    Ok This Sucks!!

I had surgery on Monday Lap band with hiatal hernia repair that was large in size for my age the dr said. I am not feeling very good. pressure in the spot where they put the incision to lift the liver. Don't know if it is from the hernia or the liver is sore or what. Basically my entire left side still hurts. The worst is when I try to get out of bed, or have been sitting a while and get up to walk. My legs feel like jello or like they have weights attached to them. I am not happy with my recovery so far. I don't know if it is normal to feel this way or not. I feel like I have gut rot or something all day. I am regretting having this done. I keep having horrible nightmares that the drs were stealing my organs. It's what it feels like at least.

    Nutri System Diet

Claudia, you should not be embarrassed. We all suffer from this "over-eating" disease. You are among friends.

    Incision Healing?

I wouldn't worry unless there is redness, pain to touch, warmth or swelling. (I'm an RN). Don't put ANYTHING on it without your doctor's OK. It will close by itself. If your DR. prescribed oral antibiotics be sure you take all of them. I'm 2 weeks post-op and had a similar thing happen. They are healing well.

I was always Extremely Hungry, I had done my share of dieting, and working out. I use to run, then my knees starting hurting allot and they were able to look at the x rays, told me I was a runner because the bones were flattened out. They were shot. So I would need new knees. I would have to lose weight though. I had the band done at Henry Ford Bariatric Center in Detroit. I lost 145 lbs. threw the process, then the Dr. overfilled me, and he thought he blew the band, so he deflated it, never to inflate it again. 3yrs. later I finally found a student of his, in the area where I now live. Now as a Dr. he told me he will take care of me, and it's been GREAT ! They filled me under Fluoroscope, and took me wright to my fill line. 90 days later, just a slight tweaking of it. So since January I have lost 60 lbs.. I am not HUNGRY ALL THE TIME !, I average between 800-1200 cal. a day. I plan on going a lot further trust me. Pros and Cons It's some time getting use to it once it is filled, you have to learn to take small peaces, chew until it's mush, and understand that eating is going to take you more time then anyone you are with. When your band is filled, and you learn to drink Protein shakes. You will find it kills the Hunger Beast. The Band is made to teach you the proper way of eating. If you don't pay it any mind and get caught ! You will get stuck, and find yourself throwing up to try to get it up. Then you will remain swollen for possibly a few days. Which means liquids. If you use your band the correct way, it's a breeze ! BUT !!!!! You have to eat the proper foods High in Protein, and Low in Carb. also,,, you must get some kind of exercise. They work hand in hand. Soon your weight will come off, and you will lose inches, then your cloths sizes start dropping. Find a CENTER OF EXCELLENCE, and look for THE CHIEF BARIATRIC SURGEON, then you know you have the best, and your band will be put in properly. you don't need a problem with Slippage, or anything. You just want success. Hope this helps, Shirley.

    Getting frustrated!!!!

Did you want to be puking? Puking is so unhealthy for you and for your band, I can't imagine that puking would mean the band is working properly for you. It's hard to restrict yourself but you have to do it. I haven't had any fill and have lost 75 pounds. I've eaten properly EVERY SINGLE DAY since surgery and am at the gym everyday. If I can do this - you can do this - I swear. I never imagined I would be able to do it but instead of looking at the band as something to make me lose the weight, I am looking at it as the thing that is going to keep the weight off. So this time, I have hope whereas before the band I was done trying. I think you perhaps were hoping the band would work differently. Now that you know how it works for you - use it to your advantage. Get on track, track all your food and exercise. If you do that - a month from now, you WILL have lost weight. I promise. Best wishes to you!

I am only 6 days post op and very hungry. I think about food often, I cant wait to get to the pureed stage. It is hard to stay strong, but I know I have to. I feel weak, I even moistened a few chips in my Soup just to have something a little crunchy. I felt horrible after, so I dont think I will do it again. Good luck with your liquids, you have come so far, I know you can do it.

You recognize that you are a carb addict so wouldn't adding simple carbs back in be counterproductive? If your goal is to remain in ketosis, then you'll need to avoid simple carbs as well as grains, starches and fruit. You can, however, eat 'green' vegies. So salads with full fat dressings, meat/poultry/fish/eggs cooked however you'd like and any number of vegies - broccoli, green Beans, asparagus, brussel sprouts...think 'green'. That will keep you in ketosis. If you know you're addicted to carbs, the best thing you can do is keep it simple and clean. .

    very disapointed

Well I have my surgery date on July 8 I have diabetes, high bp, sleep apnea, and iam only 30, I weigh 315 and am 6'1" iam so sick of living like this I can't wait to start my new life so what iam getting at is my sister is only 20 and is probably 280 to 300 she also is tall. I was talking with her that something needs to change fast or she's heading down my same path. I had her convinced on the lapband and how well it works so she scheduled her endoscopy test , went and did it, had her sleep study last night, and yeah I just found out that she's having second thoughts and she didn't do her sleep study so yeah I'm pretty angry we were supposed to do this together and now she's backing out iam totally still going through mine iam so excited for me but she needs help and I don't know what to do iguess it boils down to her decision any advise
