    Stranger in a strange land....

Thanks for the congrats. So tell me what are those "no-wanna-do" things on your list? Most women are not mind readers, lots tend to mold into what they think the man wants them to be, unless you find a solid woman that holds her own and is independent. My 28 years of marriage comes from being frankly honest, apologize later if necessary or start a conversation with "this might come out wrong, but..." Having open and honest conversation is the key to success in a marriage. Many women just want a wedding and don't think about the marriage. It takes work just like our new lives with surgery takes work. So be careful of those sneaky women just looking for a great way to have a huge party (the wedding).

That's quite a journey you've been on. I'm curious, what's been the biggest surprise for you, either positive or negative, since having the surgery? Something you didn't expect going into it?

Update: healing well. Started scar laser therapy last week. Still in compression but I got a cute short sleeve dress I can't wait to wear on my summer vacation. I will probably be in compression for the rest of the summer just because the swelling gets so crazy in the extreme heat where I live. I am excited and loving the results so far. It feels so great to not feel my arms shake and move around while doing things daily. Going down stairs, running, stirring while cooking, all feels different. Also I am a violinist and I no longer feel my arms shake and move while I play. I am so happy about that.

short answer: i didn't. i was not able to reach my prescribed protein goal, even with protein shake supplements (70g if my memory serves me correctly) regularly until about 3 months post op. and even after then, i probably only reached it daily about 85% of the time. during weight loss phase, i relied heavily on protein shakes. during maintenance and beyond, i get my protein from the regular stuff: meat fish/seafood dairy, etc. i also have a chicharron addiction, but i wouldn't advise it during weight loss phase (lotsa calories!) today (7-ish yrs post op) i"m "supposed" to be getting in 80g based on my current weight (103 lbs) and activity level (alot! ha)...but honestly i probably reach 80g in a day less than 50% of the time. and i seem perfectly fine. so i dunno. just do the best you can (your honest best, not your pretend best), i always say. nobody is perfect. and we are all so different that what work for me may not work for you. find what works for you and keep doing it until no longer does...then find something else that will. you may not be getting all your protein in, but if u are losing weight and all your labs come back satisfactorily, then why fix what aint broke?? sorry, just my self-supporting proverbial 2 cents. if my POV flavour is not for you, feel free to ignore... good luck❤️

    Drinking carbonated drinks

I'm not to drink any carbonated beverages, and that is okay since there is too many chemicals in those sodas, and they make you more thirsty. I stopped sodas years before surgery anyway and have been drinking crystal Light, all flavors for the variety. I urge you to try that and some have caffeine if you need the caffeine. I'm not to drink any caffeine until I am about 6 months out. But you go with what your team says, or do what you think is best. Wishing you the best.

    My scale lied to me

Aaah scales. They have the power to make or ruin your day just by standing on them. Did you weigh more at your doctor’s than at home initially? I weigh differently at my GP, my follow up doctor, the hospital & at home. So they keep their records and I keep my mine. The actually weight loss is the same just the numbers are different on the scale. Check your batteries. How old are your scales? As my old scales were failing my weight was erratic until they finally read I weighed like 100kgs more than I was. They went in the bin & I bought new ones that day. Remember you have lost 43lbs in 4 months so averaging 10lbs a month. That’s fantastic.

I've lost a significant amount of weight and feel more energetic and confident. The procedure was straightforward, and the recovery time was minimal. I appreciate that it doesn't permanently alter my anatomy, unlike traditional gastric bypass.
