    Intro

Hi! I had the gastric sleeve on May 28th, 2025. I underwent this surgery because I take medication that made me hungry and it got me obese up to 207 lbs. I used to weigh 135 prior the medication. So I ended up deciding to not quit the medication and to undergo this surgery for weight loss.

    Liquid intake increase

It's hard and we all went through it, but you need to prioritize fluids. It will get easier over time. The reason fluids are important is that dehydration is one of the most common reasons people end up back in the hospital post bariatric surgery. Yes, protein is important too, but at this point, as long as you're getting some protein, you'll be fine. Protein is prioritized over carbs and fat during extreme weight loss because it can help prevent catabolization of muscle. Hitting your protein goals does help some, but it's not the huge issue some people think it is. A lot of that mentality comes from the bodybuilding world where every ounce of muscle mass counts. The reason we don't want to lose a lot of muscle is because metabolically, muscle is more active than fat. I believe the net difference is roughly 6 calories, meaning if you lose 1 pound of muscle, vs lose 1 pound of fat, you'll burn about 6 calories less per day. Keep in mind that some loss of muscle is inevitable after bariatric surgery, so don't stress over it.

    Liquid intake increase

I was wondering, how am I able to raise my liquid intake if my stomach pouch doesn't allow more than 4 ounces sometimes 3 ounces per hour? I read that if we don't increase our protein intake it'll be a lot slower to lose weight. Maybe instead of drinking water a few more hours I should drink protein? I'm 3 weeks post op from a sleeve surgery

    Drinking carbonated drinks

Okay maybe I am the minority? But I drink zero cal sodas- I didn't until I was over a year out and it started with me being super tired on a hot day- and a crisp Cherry coke zero sounded good. So I drank it, survived and it was delicious! I drink them very very sparingly but I do drink soda water almost everyday. I like flavored Hop waters too. Especially those times where I am snacky and I don't need to eat I will sip on a soda water and its delicious!

Hello @Mama - Bee. I am wondering why this is an issue for you ? As its a surgery on the stomach and it really affects your hormones, the chances of getting nausea early on are a thing. They give you medication to deal with it if its a problem. I found that it was like being in the early stages of pregnancy. If I smelled food cooking or thought of food then the nausea would start. It didnt last very long though , maybe a couple of weeks. Also I had issues with excess stomach acid which made me queasy early on but being on PPI and a wedge pillow sorted that out. Don't worry about things that you may never have an issue with. Its not worth the stress.

I have managed to drink liquids at a steady pace for me to be able to enjoy it since we can't gulp...its so strange how before I would never have thought of having to restrict my liquid intake it was so freeing.

    Food Before and After Photos

My daughter wanted to make fruit pizza. I managed to convince her to make single serving versions instead because no one would eat it otherwise. These are way too sweet for us but we tried a few anyway. Original recipe (https://www.melskitchencafe.com/best-fruit-pizza/) Here’s the final product:

    Failing at everything

Honestly wonderful advice!! I agree with the food reaction; I really think it's just because I've been nauseous so often while eating or thinking about food that I'm accidentally training myself to be repulsed by it. I wasn't as nauseous today so the smells weren't as intense, and I actually managed to eat something without wanting to vomit. Can't do water overnight, the GERD is too bad 😞 I have to stop a little before lying down. 100% on the multivitamin causing additional. I try to take him with my last meal so I don't have guaranteed all day nausea. I have severe motion sickness and didn't think of using the bands! That's great advice!! Thank you!!!
