Post Op Week 4 Anxiety (long but a great read!! Lol)
summerseeker and one other reacted to SleeverSk for a post in a topic
BIG HUGS I went through the same thing. I had a terrible time. feel free to stalk my profile and go back to my original posts and you will see what a bad head space I was in, but I am here to tell you it's gets easier and by the 6 months mark you will wonder why you felt like you are feeling now. With your hydration I found Powerade a life saver I was a big coke drinker before surgery, and I was like "I can't drink anything !!!" but you can you just can't have bubbles for a while, I also found a splash of cloudy pear juice in water was great, went down really easy and helped with number 2s -

Vaping and WLS
Jeanniebug reacted to Eyoung222 for a post in a topic
Hi! I’m Emily, new here, so pardon me if this question has been answered more than once, or not in the right category. I swear I’ve looked all over for answers prior to asking. I have my first appt. With the surgeon Monday to begin the 6 month pre op program. I vape, well, stopped yesterday and I’m using patches and gum to wean off before end of July. I was doing well mentally until I learned that quitting almost always causes weight gain. Minimum of 5-10 pounds. I was told by a friend that I cannot gain any weight during the 6 month process but don’t have to lose a certain amount ( she went to the same surgeon I’m seeing) I am also learning how to eat better on top of all of this, and I’m so scared that when I quit nicotine all together, it’s going to inevitably cause weight gain. I don’t want to be kicked out of the program as soon as I start because of this. Would it be better to wait until I absolutely have to quit? Maybe that’s a stupid question. I just need encouraging words, anybody that has been down this path of quitting, whether you instead waited to quit a month or two before surgery, etc. I am so serious about taking my health back, and it’s hard enough to learn to cool and eat right without having to stress about this too. please help 🥺 thank you in advance! ps. Maybe this is trivial, maybe it’s not a big a deal as I’m making it, but even a fraction of a pound I gain could get me kicked out of the program. -

Jan 2023 MGB Surgery.
endzone reacted to calamity72 for a post in a topic
Hi, I had surgery (Mini Gastric Bypass) in Jan 2023 and I am losing weight. Total weight loss is 50lb (in 23 weeks) . However most of this was lost in the early month and I have slowed to approximately 1lb per week, if that. The slower weight loss is fine, I can cope with this because its going in the right direction. What has be very anxious is that i find that I feel like i have no restriction and can eat anything. To maintain the weight-loss I need to tell myself not to eat. I am fighting with the 1lb weight loss each week to make sure its a deficit, terrified that it will go up. I don't feel like i have a tool. Are there any other MGB patients that can eat anything - bread, rice, chocolate, cereal, potatoes. I do suffer nausea if I don't eat sufficient protein but i am so worried that i have gone through surgery and i will spend the rest of my life 'dieting' with little help from my tool. Anyone else in the same position? Thanks Cals -

FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY have an update on my revision!!
Jeanniebug reacted to SleeveToBypass2023 for a post in a topic
So I have been really quiet on here because I was just trying to get rid of the last of the health issues I had going on. Polyps are gone and uterine fibroids are gone. I had an appt with my bariatric surgeon today and we discussed getting the revision now that I have a clean bill of health. Looks like it'll be mid July sometime. BUT...my revision is a little more complicated. Here's what I was told: Normally they leave the bottom part of the stomach when they do the bypass because there might be a need for a feeding tube at some point, or something like that. HOWEVER, with my situation, the part they would normally leave is where all the polyps were. So the surgeon is going to completely remove the bottom part of the stomach (making my stomach about 2oz instead of the 4-5oz it is now) during the bypass surgery. He said that's not ideal, but given my situation, it's the best course of treatment for the GERD, esophagitis, gastritis, and getting me back to being able to work out and live a normal life again (which is really all I want). He said it does present a problem later on if I need a feeding tube or whatever, but that's a big "if", and considering all of my issues right now, it's worth the risk, if I agree. I agreed with him and I'm waiting for the coordinator to call me to schedule the surgery officially. I'm so close to this being over. I can see the finish line FINALLY!!!!! -

Cravings

Ice chips really help during liquid to give you something to do with your mouth. Good luck on your journey -
1 pointI obviously didn’t plan to eat potato chips and I know they have no nutritional value. I am prescribed omeprazole at 20 mg/day for 3 months. I’ve literally checked all the boxes. The hunger is not head hunger. I’m not craving specific foods and I’m not bored.

1 point@Arabesque- I get it. I was told to revisit all my prescription medications with the various prescribing doctors within 2-4 weeks. I had not expected such a dramatic change so quickly after surgery. I'm taking this step by step, following the liquid diet post surgery and taking the pills to reduce potential pain (I have suffered very little and they now have a protocol that involves Gabapentin, Celebrex, Tylenol). The sleep problem has been a long running issue for me, but I figure if I'm getting a parts overhaul, I might address that too. I feel pretty positive about this whole experience- I do get hungry- but my wife pureed a cream of chicken soup which filled me up and I had a protein shake later in the evening, so I feel like I can get through this--I won't be able to do much gym work for a while- I like lifting weights. I go back to the surgeon on the 20th, so I'll see what he says on that score. Walking here is fine, except it gets really hot- I'm in Texas now and the heat is a beating. But, otherwise, I wanna get into shape to be more active. Appreciate the note. Regards to you.

Hi !!! I am also having surgery in august. I’ve been mentally preparing by working on my mental behaviors and self talk. Some books too if you would like to be buddies I am down ! -
1 pointWanted to create a dedicated thread as I don't see a lot of posts about Maimonides in NY. I have my first consultation with the bariatric physician's assistant and a nutritionist as well as a virtual consult with the surgeons on July 12th. They sent me a welcome packet that stated which steps their clinic requires for surgery. The steps are to schedule a 2-in-1 appointment with the PA and nutritionist, An endoscopy, blood work, and a psych consult and they do provide someone if you don't have your own. and cardiology/pulmonary evaluations which are an EKG and sleep study. I have pre-scheduled everything but the psych eval. Prior to the surgery, they also request that you get clearance from your PCP, so I would make that appointment as well. I will update this thread as I go through the process for others to reference. Metroplus basically told me they don't have requirements as long as your BMI is over 40 or 35 with sleep apnea, diabetes, or high blood pressure.
