I didn't feel restriction until after the puree stage. I was terrified. Don't worry. The first time you eat one too many bites of meat, It will be "dramatic". Lol Ask me how I know.

I had the bypass surgery yesterday and experienced no issues other than the abdominal pain you experience which honestly feel more Ike hunger pains. My question is how much were others able to drink one day out of surgery? I’ll be lucky to get in 2 bottles of waters today! And am worried about hydration here!

    Pre op diets

I did v8 on my preop diet and that helped with salt. I also had miso broth (got a thing called minute miso that worked great).

I didn't lose any weight before surgery. Started out at BMI 46, now it's 23 since a whole while (no plastics so far). Would BMI be lower if I had lost weight before surgery? Who knows. Can't go back in time to give it a try, right?

I felt the same way. I can drink pretty sizable drinks of water and smoothies. I worried that I wouldn’t feel full and maybe it didn’t work for me. BUT I tried more solid food yesterday for the first time - tuna with some Mayo (about a quarter cup) and boy did I feel the “restriction.” Today one meal I had some hard boiled egg on a bit of lettuce and same thing. Very full.

Of course there is time to turn it around. Can you make an appointment with tour dietician and get a plan to get back on track? Hopefully, there are more than 3 healthy things you can eat—if there are more and you just need help cooking them—maybe ask the forum for some recipes? Don’t beat yourself up—tomorrow is a new day—make a plan and start anew!

    The Sleeve vs Bypass?

I was in the same predicament as you—need to lose around 70lbs and wanted the sleeve. My GERD is horrendous and causing scar tissue in my esophagus, so surgeon highly recommended bypass. My surgery is Monday, and I am excited to read that people who had bypass, do not have GERD! Thank you! ❤️

    What was/is your greatest fear?

Now that I've gone through the surgery and recovery, I can now move on to the other things that I control - weight regain. But I feel, and I'm only a few months post-op, that I have learned enough about this process/journey that I will be able to control weight regain. The surgical team did their job. The dieticians have provided me the information to get me to where I am, now it is only up to me. The support of this community is another tool available in my toolbox that I intend to utilize.

    What was/is your greatest fear?

You aren't alone. I'm so used to how I look now, I'm worried I won't like what I see. Especially with loose skin and possible hair loss. But, at the end of the day, my desire to add years to my life outweighs my concern in that way. It's not shallow imo. How we look changes the way a lot of the world reacts to us, which feeds our own insecurities or appreciations. I'm actually nervous about how people may treat me differently. I've heard sometimes there can be jealousy, or previous friendships fall apart because you are no longer their "fat friend". Which, I guess in hindsight, is better to know then to not know. I'm sure I'll still be the same dorky me, but lighter. Hopefully most of my friends and family will be supportive. I'm excited for you and your journey. I'm right there with you.
