    Four months out

Tomorrow is my 4-month surgeversary, and since I usually don't do technology on Saturdays, I thought I'd write my update today. Here's what I can now do that I couldn't right after surgery: -Go out to eat and have grilled salmon -Stop the post-surgery Prilosec -Actually feel hunger -Wean myself off of sugar substitutes -Eat cooked fruit & veggies -Cook more complex dishes for myself -Eat some salad. Here's what's different from before my surgery: -All of my old clothes are way too big, so I have some new ones -I was able to buy dress boots in a regular shoe store, not in a plus-size or wide-calf specialty place -I can try on clothes in a store that are too big and have to go down a size -I can see a tattoo on my hip that I hadn't been able to see easily for awhile -I had to readjust the seat in my car because now I can get closer to the steering wheel if I want to -I can sit more comfortably in the armchairs in my PTs office Here's what I'm currently struggling with: -I am incredibly happy to be losing weight fairly rapidly at this point, but I'm a little freaked out as I approach the 100lb loss mark. Why? Because I still have a lot more to go. And because it's weird to think about losing so much weight in less than a year. -I find myself worrying about calories even though I almost never top 900, and get in all my protein. I can too easily slip into the mindset of trying to eat fewer and fewer calories, which in the past has led to a deprivation/binging cycle. I don't want to do that anymore.

    Sleeved 11/6/17

Had my sleeve done Monday the 6th by Dr. Fernando Garcia Govea at Hospital CER via Tijuana Bariatrics. Honestly, I was so nervous beforehand that I truly believed I made the wrong choice. However, after everything was said and done I believe it was a great choice. The hospital was cleanly (honestly, I don't know what I was expecting), but it was way above my expectations. I honestly haven't felt the urge to really explore Tijuana though. I don't really have the energy, lol. How long did it take everyone to be 100% and ready to return to work?

    Soft solid introduction

Try to take atleast 3 to 5 minutes between bites. And chew it to as liquid a constancy as you can. To the point you can suck it through a straw. Try to only incorporate one soft solid at a time. Like have mostly pureed and one soft solid meal. It's a slow process for sure and it is very uncomfortable in the beginning. Even water hurt like hell but it gets better. Are they spasms that happen like right under your chest bone around the upper/ middle of your torso? If so thats what i had. You're still really swollen and tight right now. I find drinking a hot cup of tea helps relax things so they aren't so tight. Its still rough 13 months out but WAY better than the first couple months. Still call your surgeon just to be sure it isn't a stricture, but if the food is staying down without nausea i wouldn't worry TOO much (not a doctor just speaking from my own experience). How long does the cramping last? Is it soon after a bite, lasts a few seconds and then passes? If so that sounds like what i go through. I take REALLY small bites, breaks in between of atleast 2 to 3 minutes depending on how far in the meal i am. I take longer pauses between bites if im more than halfway done so i can better judge when I'm satisfied/ full. Just take your time. You may have to go back to mostly puree for a bit to give your tummy more time to adjust. I didn't start soft foods till a month out and could barely get halfway through a soft scrambled egg. Egg drop soup was my friend. Stay strong and keep your surgical team in the loop. They may be able to adjust things to better suit your needs. Sent from my SM-G925T using BariatricPal mobile app

Good Morning Everyone! I am fairly new here, just a few days on the app and website. I am 16 days pre-op and on the liquid diet currently. I chose to start liquids 4 weeks out to ensure I hit the pre-op goal from my doctor. I'm 10 days into the liquids and I've already shed 13lbs. The liquid diet has not been easy and really brought forward the realization of how addicted to food I was. Smells of real food still make me hungry, but I try to avoid them at all costs and keep myself full with protein shake and veggies. I can't wait until my VSG procedure. Being on this app and reading all of your stories and experiences has really helped me and I want you all to know how much I appreciate you. Hope you have a good Monday!

    Salad... what's the deal?

Salad was off my list for about 3 months, according to my diet plan. It's just rough on the tum. Anything that high in fiber, actually, can just shoot through you (a charming picture, I know) and you have to be careful eating.

    Regretting my surgery.

Rayelen, I'd take it a step further and say I think everyone should be in therapy -- so worthwhile.
