I don't think there is any reason to discourage someone from doing something like this. Of course you can't pinpoint down what the experience will be like for each person, but you can convey what the experience was like for some and that can help inform people. It doesn't have to be so precise. I think bariatric surgery is still a mythical thing for a lot of people. The "It's the easy way out" mythos needs to be killed. So yeah, I think it's a good idea and would help people. I don't know if I would have attended one myself but I know many who would.

    2 months post op

First picture is from November 2016 at 303 pounds. The second picture is from tonight. Same clothes. I had to hold my pants from falling to the floor. Tomorrow, I will be two months post op and weigh in at 231. So glad I made the decision for WLS.

    DS SIPS approved

My DS surgery was finally approved by insurance and is scheduled for 8/24/2017. Anyone have any feedback on when they felt good enough to return to work following the DS?

I just got an email from Mayo, they've resubmitted to my insurance this morning! That's exciting! According to my insurance they respond within 10 business days and on average 2-3 days. This feels more real this time!

I use Topix! Haven't ever heard of Caboki but I'm assuming they are similar and if they have good reviews it would be worth a try.

If I were you, I would try to fibers first. If your problem is more on top and not the thickness. I have both (thinning top and extremely thin hair) but the fibers work wonders when my extensions are not in. I think you will really like them.

Apparently it's normal for you. As long as you & your surgical team think your progress is normal, then it's normal. Congratulations!

Hi everyone! I'm me and nervous. I just turned 60 years old. I think I'm officially grown up now. I'm young at heart, goofing around with my grandchildren all nine of them. I have had crohns disease since I was 19'years old. I still managed to make it through nursing school and more ask retired after 35 years. My husband and I have custody of three of our grandchildren after our son in law died and our daughter ran away. One of the things I would like to run by the members is my feeling of selfishness about having this gastric sleeve. I'm overweight, diabetes, hip replacement and crohns. I feel that if I didn't make it through surgery, it would absolutely devastate the grandkids again! I never thought I could even have a sleeve done due to having all of my colon and rectum removed. So, I have an ileostomy. I have a huge hernia at the site. I went to Duke University and the gastroenterologist suggested I have weight loss surgery because if he repairs the hernia, the weight will cause it to come back. I'm scheduled in three months.

    Marched with State Honor Guard

I rejoined the Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Michigan State Honor Guard last month. Well yesterday (4 July 2017) was our first official event. It was a 2 mile (give or take) parade. When I was on the State Honor Guard 2 years ago I thought I was going to die by the time we reached the end of the parade. Yesterday, I was like huh, when is this parade going to start. I carried the Department flag and had zero issues. What a difference losing 100 pounds makes. Also, 2 years ago the uniform I was issued had become a little too small for me (I couldn't button the pants (thank goodness there is a wide white belt that covered it up) and I had to buy a larger uniform) but now I have the smallest shirt and pants that I can find and I feel so much more comfortable. I love the new me.
