so i definately over did it yesterday loading and unloading the dishwasher. im taking it easy today. i woke up this morning at 4:30 and took some medicine for the pain. its gotten more tolerable though. im not really hungry which is probably from the swelling. my arm where they had the iv in is black and blue though. i guess thats what i get for having small veins. so today i am going to be working on some homework that i need to get caught up on. i cant wait to take a shower tonight since i havent had one in a couple days. i also have to go through my important papers and find the packet that the nutritionist gave me. i cant wait till i can have liquids and soups. i am really really craving brocolli and cheese soup. the one thing that i am not touching is sugarfree jello. that stuff is disgusting. jello is disgusting by itself let alone with no sugar. i love the sugar free popsicles though. i have one of those and some apple juice im still nursing for breakfest. but let me tell you i am bored just sitting around and i get up every now and then and walk to the mailbox and back. in fact i am going to get up and do that in a little bit. i finally starting passing some gas instead of just burping. which is good. im hoping to get all the gas pains out before i head back to work and school on tuesday. im still really sore where the incisions are though especially where they put the port. that area of my stomach is bruised. the dressings are also icthing and driving me insane. i have to go back to the doctor on friday for a post opt check up and we will see how much i have lost in this week. my 5 year old doesnt understand why he cant give me a hug which breaks my heart. but soon hopefully it wont hurt to do that. well i am going to get back to doing my homework...
We got brave and hit the local buffet last night (my son's night to pick), so I paid twice as much as my 5 year old only to eat about 1/3 what he did. It just felt so wrong!
Okay, I thought I would order a couple of flavors of the protein shakes my doctor's office sells to see which flavors I would like before I buy more. Can I just say...YUCK!!
There is no way I can drink several of those a day for 2-3 weeks. I am supposed to have 70-100 grams of protein a day plus it must be a meal replacement and only 800-maybe 1000 calories a day. Most of the meal replacements that are palatable only have about 10 grams of protein and tons of sugar. I also have to have one without aspartame. I can tolerate other sweeteners but I cannot tolerate aspartame. Any suggestions would be helpful. I have to go on an all liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery so I thought I would start now by replacing just one meal a day trying out different flavors and recipes.
Well On monday March 8,2010 i was finally banded after almost 2 years i wasn't sure i wanted to do it and went to class after class and talked and talked i knew 6 months ago it was time to take the final step, I walked away from my ww program and back into the dr's office and here iam 10 lbs lighter in just 2 weeks i can't believe it i already feel better in many ways. I have some gas and I have some pain but nothing like i suspected.. So here i go i'm on my way to a new healthy life and a great journey!!! :tt1:
Went to the Kansas Games yesterday KU and KSU and both won so today they will be playing each other. Yes I have a ticket for that as well. In the box seats you get fed as well as drinks. I was kinda scared of what I would be facing since this is week 3. I know I should not hit any beer because of the fizz. However, I did have a Jack over Ice and took very little sips and was amazed that it did not effect me at all. I also had some barbeque pork that did not effect me either. I did notice that it took a whole game (KU) to have approx 1 inch of Jack over ice. As the ice melted the drink seemed to keep refilling itself. So the 2nd game (KSU) I tried a Captain Morgan with a diet coke very little diet coke because of the fizz but I knew that alcohol would reduce the fizz. Again no issue and it took the whole game to get it down. But it was very enjoyable. I thought this would impact the weight loss but when I weighted this morning another 2 lbs down. I know this was probably wrong but I have not had a drink in 6 weeks kinda felt good. by the way you only need a few sips to start a buzz on.... seems it goes to the small intestine quickly and then well you know. Just thought I would share that with you. Later today I get to go to the big game here in Kansas both KU and KSU are a big deal fighting it out, The place will be a mad house. And the power and light district will be party zone central.
I didn't think I lost any weight this week, but I ended up losing a pound. I am feeling way to good to let that get me down though. I made it through my second workout of the Couch25K program yesterday. whew...I even improved my time and distance a little...YAY!! I'm definitely feeling soreness in my legs but I hope its melting all this flab, so I'll take that anyday..lol The fight of the flab is on!!! So total I've lost 56 pounds in 3.75 pounds! Not as much as others, but I'm really happy with my own progress. Well stay tuned & thanks for reading!!
Final weekend for me before sleeve! I am excited. Looking so forward to getting this tumor port out of me! This site has been so helpful. I was looking at the picture albums today, Tiff's is so incredible! I had no idea she was so "large" don't know any kinder word. I am going to take some before pictures and measure myself tomorrow. Pack my final things then off I go!!!!!
It's been Two months and one week, 9 weeks since my surgery. :glare: Two more weeks to go before I will get my 4th Fill, another 2 cc's.:bored: Currently I have 6 cc's in my 10 cc band. :tt2: Started exercising everyday and should have some good results in two weeks.:tt1: Eating habits are controlled and maintaining water intake. :rolleyes2:Drank too fast today, Water and had some trouble, MUST REMEMBER TO DRINK SLOW, SIPPING, NOT GULPING. :tt2: But I was thirsty for something cool to drink.
This is all new to me. I was banded on Thur 3/11/10. I felt fantastic the day of the surgery and this morning (Friday) - but I swallowed a pill early this morning without breaking out of the capsule and all day I've had the hiccups. After discharge from the hospital - I came home and have not been able to get anything in. No H20, no broth, no chewable pepsid, no milk - NOTHING. Now, my throat is terribly sore - and frankly so is my esophagaus. I've read blogs in here about blockage and slippage - Has anyone ever been irritated by the hiccups so that it causes discomfort for the rest of the day? I called Dr. Steinberg and he said to take it easy the rest of the day but hopefully I'll drink water tomorrow or he said to come back to the hospital. When I burp I get a slick looking sometimes frothy spit like substance. I did see milk product in it for a while. At first I was scared that I might have made the band slip - but I think more then anything I've just got some kind of irritation or swelling which is preventing the food from going down. Anyone have any thoughts? When i drink water - within minutes it feels like it's coming back up.
I had surgery on March 8th. Went home on the 9th. I am sore and everything I eat seems to gurggle and cause me pain. I am never hungry but make myself eat. It is too the point now that the thought of broth or jello makes me sick. Is this normal? Im worried that it may not be. I just wanna be better now! :biggrin0:
follow-up with Dr. Bui went very well. no sign of infection, minimal pain (and only occasionally), incisions are healing nicely. the port incision is healing a little more slowly but thats to be expected since its the largest. Dr. Bui says it looks good tho. steri-strips have been removed but he put 2 new ones over the port incision. i can take them off in a week.
lol im sorta tempted to get a picture of my stomach. the scars arent anywhere near as bad as i thought they were going to be. but i doubt anyone wants to see my fat belly LOL! :bored:
we went over diet, exercise, wound care, portion control, etc. we also talked about fills. i have a 10 cc band and had 2 ccs in at the time of surgery (which would account for the crazy restriction i had at first. he said the band would be empty!). he is having his coordinator call me to schedule a fill for me in the first week of April.:glare:
im doing good tho! started solid foods last night. despite having 2 ccs in a 10 cc band, i no longer have restriction. so the hunger is back. and i dont feel full. :tt1: so itll be a struggle to make it to the first week of April without wanting to stuff myself but ill do it.:tt2:
One small NSV for me is my feet have shrunk. I bought some new shoes a while back and had to set them aside and buy wider ones because they did not fit well and were too tight. I tried them on for the hell of it yesterday and they fit great and I wore them the whole day with no problems. I never would have never thought of my feet shrinking…probably a guy thing.
ok so my surgery went very well, so well that the doctor was surprised. then pain i my stomach isnt dibilitating but it is uncomfortable. it does hurt when i get up off the couch to move around. my throat is what hurts the most bc of the tube they put down my throat. when the surgery was finished i was only allowed to have room temp liquids do the only thing i drank yesterday was water and apple juice. today i made som chicken broth. so i had water and apple juice for breakfest and chicken broth for lunch. dont know what im having for lunch. i will be glad when i feel better and can move around without pain. they gave me some tylenol with codine for the pain and that stuff makes me soo tired. sometimes i feel as though ive been ran over by a mack truck. my husband has been keeping a close eye on me and is taking really good care of me. i think i overdid it today by pulling, pushing, and loading the dishwasher. now i am sore and its my fault. im hoping that today will be better.:tt1:
I made it to a 40 pound loss finally. SOOOO close to onederland! I had my best fill ever on Tuesday and I hope this restrictions lasts for a while. I have 8.3ccs in my 10cc band now.
I've planned a vacation with my husband for my 40th birthday in April. My goal was to be under 190 when we leave, but I don't expect that to happen. If I can make it solidly in the 190s I'll be happy. Part of the trip is going to be climbing a Mayan pyramid and doing a zip line through the jungle! I need to hit that treadmill hard for the next three weeks so I'm up to the task.
weight = 341.8
I forgot to mention that I have to lose weight before surgery date. My weight goal for surgery is 317. I need to lose 24.8 pounds or more within the next 68 days. I'll be weighing in daily to track progress.
here's to wishing me luck...:tt1:
...but afterward, I feel stronger every time. Living in the city, I have many options are going to the gym, whether it be bus, car or train, but I prefer to walk there because I can use the extra 30 minutes of exercise.
Here's the issue, when I walk from the gym, I pass by:
- KFC
- Burger King
- 3 McDonalds
- Wendy's
- 5 Chinese restaurants
- Subway
- Blimpies
- About a dozen Delis
- PAPA JOHNS LOCATED RIGHT NEXT TO THE GYM WITH A HUGE SIGN STATING "99 CENTS FOR ONE SLICE!"
No 30 minute walk should consist of all of this.. And it doesn't help that you can smell all of it just by passing it.. Once, I crossed the street to get it out of my mind, but it's there too! It's everywhere I go! Why would anyone do this?
But, as I walked to the gym yesterday, I realized none of this bugged me at all anymore. I turned on my MP3, listened to my tunes and ended up passing the gym (:tt2:;:glare:. I'm at the gym for about 2 hours, so walking home usually constists of 'screw food, I want a bath'...
I think I'm liking these feelings. I feel in charge. I'm down to 250~ Hitting the 40s would make me tear a bit.
:tt1:
Yesterday, I was overcome by some type of "bug" out of the blue. Vomitting, hershey squirts, intense abdominal pain, fever...all seemingly out of nowhere, in the middle of the day. I didn't eat anything strange...and it seems to have passed.
My husband mentioned that it "could" possibly be the recent changes in my eating. Has this happened to anyone? I
haven't "officially" started my physician approved diet because my surgical consult isn't until Monday...but I HAVE drastically changed my eating habits, and will continue for the duration (3-4 small healthy meals/day, water, increase in fruit & veggies, etc)
Has this happened to anyone???

Once again I left home without posting.... maybe it on purpose because I haven't lost a lb in 2 weeks. I was home Monday and Tuesday with a cold, and was taking over the counter med's. :tt1: (excuses, excuses) I hope everyone else did better then me. :tt2:
I have just been so hungry this past week and not losing any weight. :bored: I was so sure I needed to make an appointment for another fill ASAP. But, then this morning I just got the most stuck I have ever gotten. First of all, let me back up and tell you about the most horrible recipe for any lapbander...
I've been looking for new ways to cook chicken. I'm trying to 'lean in' to the whole organic/kind eating (a la recent Oprah show). So, when I was at Costco the last time, I bought two whole organic chickens instead of the conventional parts I normally buy. I figured if I learn some new recipes for cooking the chickens whole then I will save money (whole chickens cost less than parts) and everyone in my family can be happy (DH prefers light meat and the kids and I prefer dark). First recipe tried was roasted chicken from the Barefoot Contessa's cookbook. Delicious! And, no stuck episodes. :tt2:
Second recipe was from a low-carb crockpot recipe book I took out from the library. You cook the whole bird upside down in the crockpot. Tastes OK, but this method literally boils out all the fat and juices from the meat. Last night I got a little stuck w/it. But, this morning I got stuck the worst I have ever gotten. Still, I could not PB it even though I REALLY REALLY wanted to. I finally tried the Papaya Enzyme tablets I got for just such an 'emergency'. I don't know if they helped or not, but the evil crockpot chicken did eventually pass. Suffice to say, I warn you all, do NOT crockpot a whole chicken like this. It is not 'kind' to the band! :tt1:
Please don't let this scare you away from soupy/stew type crockpot recipes, though. I have a great chicken chili recipe (uses boneless thighs) which is wonderful for the band. But, if you want to do a whole chicken, roast it in the oven like the Barefoot Contessa.
OK, so back to my 'Restriction Roller-Coaster'. I just don't know where to go from here. I was so hungry this past week that I figure I MUST need a fill, but maybe I will put it off a week just to make sure I really understand what my current restriction is first. Its hard trying to figure out what is the right level of fill when you feel like your restriction is all over the place... totally unrestricted one day and getting mega stuck the next day. I realize some of this is just the learning curve of what foods work w/the band and which ones don't. And, its really a combination of the food AND your fill level (as well as other factors like water retention). :tt2:
This band is a complicated thing really. I can understand why a lot of people get freaked out that it won't work for them or give up on it. Not saying that I'm feeling that way. I understood it would be a process to get to the right level of restriction, but I guess you can't understand just how complex it is until you actually have the band and are working with it yourself.
Just want to make it clear that I am still really really happy w/my band. I hope it doesn't sound like I'm not. Even w/the ups and downs, its still a great ride and I'm very happy w/my weightloss. :glare:
every time i get fills done and i get to 6cc I start having problems with vomiting every time I eat they are telling me that it could be a reaction to the lap band and now becuase of this 2 time I now have a little slippage and they suggested that I might want to go for a realize band and it might work better and I may not have this problem with it but I do not know. please tell me what people think of this
I'm literally almost crying reading this. Mostly because I'mon this pre-op diet and these last two days have been difficult... but also because I needed this! Thank you! Congrats! And a BIG congrats on quitting smoking a second time! It was hard enough to do it once... So - when I say BIG congrats... I mean BIIIIIG congrats! ❤️
