Banded 12/30/2009, no weight loss for two weeks

I was banded on 12/30/2009 and have only lost 26lbs. I started excersizing, drink well over 64 oz. of water per day, and eat small amounts but can not loose weight. I have great restriction for 2 weeks after a fill, then I am able to eat like normal again. I am coming up on the 6 month mark and am really getting frustrated. I eat the same thing that I have eaten in the past when I lost weight, but i am actually gaining now. Is anyone else having these issues, and what can I do to start loosing weight again. I have the 10cc Aps band, and have 7.3cc currently.

13 Days Post Op

Well, it finally happened. I threw up a meal. I had a pork chop and some asparagus and I scarfed it down. I had been to the Dr. for some blood work and was starving. I hadn't had any food. I didn't chew my food and take lil bites like I was supposed to. What else can I say but that it's my fault.

Got the CPAP

I went for my 2nd sleep study and to get fitted for the CPAP. It's not as bad as I thought it would be, but it's no picnic either. When I first heard I would have to get it, I thought I would not really use it. But, the tech explained to me how it works, and how much better folks feel after using it. I figure it's worth a shot, even if it takes some getting used to. The insurance paid all but $300 of it. So, I should at least try to get my $300 worth out of it before tossing it aside. LOL I know after I have a significant weight loss I probably won't need it anymore, but that's a ways off so, here goes. On the other hand we'll see how a feel about it in a few nights.

Time is Flying By......

It seems as if time is flying by....and for this, I am EXTREMELY greatful! I am believing that the next couple months will just sail by (although I should be sad that I am wishing away the beautiful weather just to endure another one of those eternal New England winters! hahaha)...   My boss is out of town at a conference this week...and whenever she is away, time at work flies by! We are going through a rough time at work with our boss...so whenever she is away, we feel a bit free! Anyway, it just means that Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will be like a blur...and then I leave for North Carolina on Thursday. I am going to visit a friend whom I have known since we were three....and have gone to school together from Preschool till High School graduation. Then she moved down to NC to attend Duke for her Undergrad...and UNC for her Ph.D....so she's been there for quite some time. I try to make it down about once a year to visit her. I will spend Memorial Day weekend with her....and when I get back, I'll have my Psych appointment on Monday, June 7th. I am a little nervous. My health coach said that some psychiatrists are brutal, where some are ok? Can anyone shed any light on their experiences so far? I know that I am not an emotional eater....so for me, that shouldn't be a problem. In fact, I don't eat when I get stressed....hahahah....better yet, right?   I think I have 3 more health coach phone calls...I had my blood work done a couple weeks ago...what else am I missing? Do I need to get some kind of physical before the actual surgery? What else should I expect to have to do? I've done the sleep study - and no sleep apnea - yay! :cursing:   Anyway, that's my update 'til the psych consult. Let me know your experiences about this, please...   ~Jen

My success so far......

I had my surgery in November of 2009 with Dr. Terrician at WLSC. My surgery was on a Thursday and it went wonderful. I had very little pain and was back at work that Monday! To date (May 24 2010) I have lost 52 pounds! I have went from a size 20 pant to a size 16 pant! I am very excited with my results. I have had a total of 4 fills and this 4th one really has been the best fill yet! I also joined weight watchers online which helps me track what I am eating!

Need a fill!

Y'all know how much I HATE to feel feel down. This week, I have not been losing and this morning on my official weigh in day, I was up .6. (At first I thought I was up a whole pound, so I'm not going to get too upset about just over a half!) Anyway, when I think back to why...   Exercise: I exercised for a total of 3 hours last week. One hour of Jazzercise, 2 - 30 minute treadmill sessions (couch to 5k), & 60 minutes with my trainer. Not bad, but far from my best.   Food: If I am honest with myself, I know that I did not make good food choices this week. I don't think it is about stress or comfort. I think that I'm hungry and I have no will power. The doctor had said that he thought I was close to my sweet spot and might not need another fill for a while, but I think that might not be the case. Typically, I'm not hungry in the mornings. I will usually drink a protein shake in the morning (around 9:30-10:00), not because I'm hungry, but to make sure I'm getting good protein. Today, my stomach was growling (with hunger) by 7:30 AM. I don't want to be so tight that I can't eat, but I do need to be tight enough to curb my hunger more.   Punishment: because I have gained weight this week, my punishment is to log my caloric intake. I HATE DOING THIS! I know some people are completely focused on this and I know that it is probably extremely helpful. But I HATE IT. So, it is an effective punishment and motivator to not have to do it again. Interestingly, I seem to do better when I'm away from home. Pre-band, vacations were weight gain guarantees! However, now, it seems to have the opposite effect. I don't snack much and I find time to work out. So...I will track my calories Mon-Wed. If I'm on the right track by end of Wednesday, I won't track my vacation (Thurs-Tues). When I get back, I will have one week until my fill. Now that week includes my birthday...so wish me luck!! Ha!   Random question: do you all update your avatar pictures? I know that picture is how people here know me, but it isn't me anymore. Do you all leave them or update them??

I think its time for another fill

This month has been a bit awkward I ve jumped on the scale one too many times. I have not lost or gained a thing. I ve felt less than satisfied with my 4 oz servings at meal time. I am sure its time to increase my 2cc for better control. My newest plan for exerciseing is be on a unchangeable scheduel starting today. I did my mile in the pool at the Y this morning at 6 am. It takes me about 20 mins to do it. The YMCA is a few blocks from my office so I ahve no excuses PLease REMIND me I have no excuses !!!!!!! I am calling my Dr today also :rolleyes2:for an appt to set a another fill date.

Week 2 Update

I have lost another 3kgs. So total loss in kgs is 9kgs, in lbs that translates to 20lbs!! I am up to 20 minute walks...and wanting to do more. My first soft foods began today as well. I have fish and veggies planned for dinner. It will probably be my dinner for tomorrow as well - hehe waste not want not right? I do have to admit I am fuller A LOT faster than with fluids. The tastes of hot cereal and a yogurt were explosive. I need to buy protein powder to add to my meals, but I am just happy to be off the fluids. My woulds are healing good and the patches came off today as well. I have one left from the drainage hole, but that has also stopped bleeding so it is just a lil time now before I am patch free. =D Any advice or food ideas for this pureed stage is WELCOME. Trying to keep the carbs out of the diet right now, especially after I had a lil elevated (still norm but on the high end) blood sugars with the cereal. Thanks all!!! Rob

Feel like im stuck with this weight.

Its been almost a year and I have not lost a good 40 lbs and kept it off. Once I hit 205 I have gone up and down as low as 198 and then it will go back up within days. A co-worker had the procedure (i went to her doc) and she is melting away. She weighed alot more but i dont think that that has anything to do with it. People notice my weight loss and they don't know I've had the procedure, had I lost this weight on my own I would be satisfied.. I'm so bummed.   Any Suggestions ... PLEASE

A Day in the Life...

I feel great these days. I don't own a scale so I can't tell you how much I've lost since over 2 weeks ago when it was up to 44 pounds... I love this band life... I don't eat alot of carbs and instead mostly protein. That diet is giving me energy galore and i feel wonderful. I know it's a long road to get where I'm going but every day I see that I am headed in the right direction. It's amazing! I've only had one 4cc fill and I think I'm ok for a while. I can't wait to check out the rewards of my hard work. The energy and overall improvement in my health is my biggest reward. The weight loss is just a bonus. :thumbup:Check out my other more detailed blog at mybigfatbandgeeklife.blogspot.com

Approved by Insurance!!!

(I've waited too late in the weekend to make an original post here, so I'll just cut and paste my forum message from two days ago here.)   Well, after waiting about about a week and a half since my insurance documentation was submitted, I found out today that I'm approved for VSG surgery. I am sooo excited I could turn cartwheels! I kind of knew I had everything in place to be approved, but it wasn't real until the nurse coordinator called me today to give me the news. NOW IT'S REAL!!! I've been grinning at myself in the mirror and doing the happy touchdown dance every time I went to the restroom at work today. I hope nobody heard me in there laughing with myself.   I talked to my surgeon's office a couple of days ago about pre-op testing. Since my paperwork looked good for insurance, I was able to get the info I needed to schedule the various tests. I have pulmonary testing scheduled for June 1st. Then on June 9th, I am scheduled for cardiac and an upper GI. I'm so glad I don't have to have the GI test where they put you to sleep. I would have done it if they had told me to, but happy to not do it. AND, my surgery is scheduled for June 22nd! Yeah!!!   I'm still a little scared and nervous about the surgery itself. But I know I would not be nearly as prepared as I am if it wasn't for the people on VST. I keep reminding myself to expect the unexpected in terms of post op stuff, but at least I have a general idea of what to look out for. I was worried that I would drive myself crazy over the next month waiting for my surgery date, but I've had a few things come up that will keep me busy right up until the surgery so that's a good thing.   Thanks to everyone for sharing your experiences here. I expect to be able to do the same after surgery and hope that my experiences are helpful to someone too.

So my thinking has had a makeover...

No restriction is no reason to give in. I don't get a feeling of being full until sometimes up to an hour after I eat. That can be trouble if I overeat.   It is hard to get the protein in. I crave vegetables so I try to have some when I can. I am also running out of protein ideas and getting bored with the ones I have. I went to bingo last night. This is my first outing since being banded on the 10th. My bingo allows you to bring your own food if you want or fast food. Whatever you want. I brought some food with me but I saw they had chili. I really wanted a bowl and knew if I couldn't eat it hubby would. It was delicious. I don't think I would have liked it normally but I guess I was starved for something different. I ate maybe a 1/2 c if that and chewed the meat really well. I did fine and was stuffed so maybe what I am eating is not filling enough or it is too mushy? I ate meat and was full. So should I eat more solid proteins to stay satisfied longer and to feel full while eating otherwise I just don't get that feeling until it is too late and I have eaten too much.   I am so confused. I think that an appointment with a nutritionist should be the 1st appointment post op we have. I could really use some help. I met with one before surgery but when you haven't had this done yet you don't know what questions to ask.   I need more protein ideas for breakfast, lunch, dinner and some things easy to take to work. I hate fish such as tuna. YUCK. I haven't been able to eat it since my 2nd pregancy.

8 months--- 4 fills --- 40lbs lost --- Zero restriction

I got my 4th fill last thurs (total 6.6 cc) Surgeon made a appt for my 5th fill for July. I could alreay tell by Sat that i was having no restriction. It felt exacly the same! So the way i see it i will just stop weighing myself, keep working out, eat my 1200 calories and PRAy that in 2 months i have lost some weight. My goal will be 10lbs.   It doesnt help that my husband finaly got on the train and is eating better ( gave up soda) and working out and in 4 weeks he was lost 15lbs.!!!:cursing: i am very happy for him, but now he is looking at me like"why can you loose weight like me??" Family and friends are very supportive BUt i can tell they are wondering why i am not loosing weight quicker. my father lives in South America and has not seen me in 2 years (278lbs) he seems to think i have lost a huge a mount and is asking for pics... i have none to send. One friend put it as a positive " you are loosing slowly and that is giving your body/skin time to adjust..."   Anyways, I will keep going. Love this website. I read the blogs and it gives me hope.   Have a great Week !! Ciao

Saturday-fun day

Well it is Saturday and I have only 2 days till I find out if my husband switches jobs and how the insurance mess is going to work out:unsure:. I have been trying to focus my mind on my housework and kids, not hard to do! I have been cleaning like crazy, when I get stressed I am a cleaner. Everything gets clean! I am nervous for Tuesday but excited. Either me or my husband will be happy, it is so hard to wait. Sunday looks like a busy day, my daughter has horse back riding lessons, Girl Scouts and I have to visit with one of my family's (I am a family therapist). So hopefully it will go by as fast, I just want the waiting to stop. I am going to hate waiting for the insurance approval, my house is going to be like a museum, we will be able to eat off the floor. I have decidied to only tell a select few about the surgery, there are some people that will not understand and right now I don't need the added stress. I am taking one day at a time and trying to keep busy. Well if anyone reads these blogs, I hope I don't bore you too much. It is just really helpful to be able to write down how I am feeling, thank you for listening:wub:. Evonne

Day 64 Post Op - 67.2 Pounds - 1 Fill

When is it time to get a fill?   My surgeon told me something like when you are able to eat without any problem, stop losing weight, and feel hungry a lot, then schedule another fill.   Did I hear that right?   How about two out of three? I am blessed so far: no puking! I mean I must be part goat because I can eat most anything: bread, eggs, fruit with skin, spicy food . . .:cursing: Stuff I know has caused grief for others. And I am still losing weight -- although not like the pre-op and initial post-op when I was on the POW diet (protein shakes, broth, and Jell-o X 3 meals). I am still losing about 3 to 4 pounds a week.   BTW: I hope I am not pissing you off. I know or have heard plenty of horror stories about upchucking, blowing chow, hurling, driving the porcelain princess after sucking down something you thought you could eat only to review the evidence as you spew!   I am the exception. The poster old fart. And it isn't because I am chewing every bite fifty times before swallowing. Hell, I would have even fewer teeth than now if that were the case. (Last count I think I have about eight of my own with another 16 or so in various bridges, crowns, etc.)   Seriously. When do you know it is time to call for another fill?   Help!!   WB
