Recommended Posts

tommarow's 7th month for me, down 92lbs since surgery, and 105lbs total so far! could not be happier! hope to loose another 22-32lbs before all is said and done. I am now down to my weight of 1988 and have not and will not deprive myself of anything. I eat chocolate, cheesecake and ice cream whenever the urge hits! I have learned it is not the type of food but the portion that counts. I am workin out of town and have limmited intenet right now so my response might be slow, but I would do it again in a heartbeat!!!!!!!!!

Wouldnt it be fun to have a lapband party where you have to wear clothes from the year when you last weighed your current weight? (ex. pipedoc is at his 1988 weight, I am at my 1994 weight)

Hi fellow Bandsters! I was banded on 10/29/09, so just passed my 8 month mark post-op. I've lost just under 60 lbs with the band; the rest came off with WW before surgery.

The loss rate is slowing down but I'm still losing inches and things are redistributing around the body. A month ago I signed up with a personal trainer at the gym, and we've been working exclusively in the pool, since I have big knee problems. It feels good to move more.

Best news is that I no longer have sleep apnea! I started having sleeping difficulties in early January and it took a long time to get a new sleep study scheduled. I figured I needed to have the pressure adjusted because of the weight loss, but it never occurred to me that the apnea would be completely GONE! Needless to say I'm thrilled.

I'm 1.3 lbs away from breaking 200 lbs for the first time in 30 years. Should be in time for my birthday on 7/24 (I have a conference to go to first, so who knows).

How's everyone else doing?

Congratulations on your success.

All together with the pre-liquid diet I have lost 101lbs. Since surgery I have lost 91lbs. I feel awesome. I am 4lbs away from ONEDERLAND. I haven't been there since 1987. I no longer have sleep apnea. I to went in thinking I would need a pressure adjustment and was told that I no longer have sleep apnea. After living on that CPAP machine for 5 years. You have NO IDEA how good it is to sleep without it.

My weighloss has also slowed down but I am losing inches as well. I went from a size 26 to a 14. Almost ready to move into a size 12. Some of my tops I have to wear a size 8.

I do exercise but I'm not a fanatic. I walk alot. I exercise alot at home with my Wii and with exercise video's on the TV. I would LOVE to get my bike out and ride but it's been too hot and the darn green heads are murder this year.

As I tell everyone, I have lost a complete person on the outside but I have gained a person on the inside. My self-esteem is much better. I actually feel good about myself which I haven't in many years. And it's wonderful when people tell you, "You look awesome. I almost didn't recognize you." I have to admit the attention is worth the entire process.

I hope everyone else is doing well???

since my last post here in December so much has changed. my doc found erosion in Feb and I had the band removed. I am happy to say that in the 5 months I have been band free I am finally getting a new band on Saturday!

Luckily I havent gained any weight since Feb that is a huge miracle, mostly thanks to my doc who insisted I get a balloon placed in my stomach.

I can't wait to start losing weight again! I am only 10 kg from my goal weight:)

Hello Everyone!

I was banded on 10/20/09 and am 5 days from my one-year Banniversary!!! To date, I've lost 80lbs.... Since surgery, I've lost 35lbs... I sometimes feel like that's not enough in a year but.... it's more than I would have done on my own... I love my band... Although she gives me problems..... She keeps me on track and doesn't let me stray too far..... I have to say it again.... I love my band.

Congrats on your loss, Monique! But mostly on being able to stick with it and being happy with yourself and your progress. It's not always easy, especially when things slow down and we want it to all come off and get to goal ASAP.

But it takes time for our heads to catch up with the actual physical changes, to be able to recognize ourselves in the mirror and really understand how much we've changed on the inside and out.

I'm celebrating with you - my own surgiversary is 10/29 :)

Hello all October 2009 Bandsters....

I hope the past year has been a success for you. My year anniversary was 10/22/2010 and I have lost a total of 68lbs. The past 2 months I have maintained so going in to see doctor tomorrow. I have made progress and have learned a lot! It has been a very stressful year at work and for the first time in 7 years, I was able to lose or maintain my weight. I think that is progress.

I have 38 pounds to go and I think this is the next phase of the learning process. Getting to your goal weight and probably hitting some struggles since it has been a year since being banded.

Anyone have some good suggestions to get past the plateau and reach your goal weight? Would love to hear from you.

Have a great day everyone!

I was banded on Oct 15, 2009 weighing in at 215lbs.

I now weigh 155. I've lost 60 lbs. in 11 months.

I love my band (most of the time). It's been a challenge to learn a new way of eating after 55 years.

I would really love to lose another 15 lbs. It's slowed down so much for the past 2 months.

I could get a fill but I'm afraid of getting over-filled. That's when the problems come. I'm pretty tight. can't eat before noon, and I'm so glad to be maintaining and losing sloooowly.

My goal is size 8 jeans !!

any ideas?

I wa also banded 10/2009-- have lost a little over 60#

another 60 to go.

I had a fill 11 dyas ago and am considering a 7 hours drive to get a partial unfill. Since the fill I am sliming, no matter what I consume, even gatorade will not stay down.

I have massive heartburn and I am miserable .

All I can suggest is step up your xercise routine - or add something new to your routine.

Good Luck !!

Its October..Just wanted to see how all my fellow bandsters are doing 2 yrs later. As for me, not so well. Ive slipped my band or prolapsed as I am starting to think after reading other stories. I go back for a fill on the 10th and hopefully I wont have any problems like i had for the past few months.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
