So, I was banded 8/25, got my first fill 10/8 and haven't lost a fricken' lb since my fill! What the??? I am eating maybe 1/2 than I ate pre-band, and the only time I feel my band is in the am, after that, she's open wide. I'm eating ALOT healthier, watching carbs, minimal sugar, tons of veggies and lean meats, soda gone, candy & ice cream gone, so I'm sure that has contributed to the weight I have lost. So, I'm thinking that fill didn't do squat and I need another one? That sound right?

I'm going on vacation in 2 weeks to Hawaii and I don't want anything bad to happen while I'm gone, so should I wait til I get back to get the fill or do it now? Thoughts? I need some advice...

I agree you probably need another fill, but I would wait until you come back. There is phenomenon where when you fly, somepeople have their bands tighten, something to do with the pressurized cabin, I'm really not sure. It doesn't happen to everyone, didn't to me this summer when I flew to Illinois, but others have complained about it. I personally wouldn't take a chance, but that's of course entirely up to you.

The other thing is sometimes it takes a couple of days/weeks for the fill to kick in. You wouldn't want to be at the beach and suddenly go into a tightening and getting really sick. That would totally suck!

Hope this information helps. I am sure others will post as to their experiences as well.

Enjoy your trip, wish I was going to Hawaii, never been there, but it looks so beautiful, maybe one day.

Cindy

Sounds like you could use another fill, but I'd wait until after Hawaii. Definately.

I got my second fill the other day, and while I feel a small bit of increased restriction, I was able to eat 2 slices of pizza tonight. I feel it, but I could eat it. I'm thinking when I eat real bandster meals and not junk like pizza I will feel it even more. I had been doing liquids and mushies so tomorrow I'll try some real, good food. I wonder if the same is true for you? Try eating several ounces of chicken breast, lubed and well-chewed, and some veggies and see how "full" you feel? That's what I'll do. I'm hoping the restriction is there if I eat the right foods.

And, give your body a minute to adjust to the new eating. It will drop off, I promise. Keep up the good eating!!!

I agree with Kathy..

Go on Vacation, enmjopy yourself. You do nto want to get a fill and get there and have problems, climate, altitude changes the restriction I have noticed. Play it safe..get a fill after hawaii

Unfortunately it doesn't make any difference what I eat, I still can put away at least half of what I ate preband in a sitting. For instance, Breakfast consists of a protien bar (I'm so tight in the am I can hardly keep that down, but Dr said I need to eat something in the am to get my metabo started) lunch around 1pm, usually a salad with chicken breasts, or a turkey wrap, and maybe a yogurt before if I'm feeling exceptionally hungry. dinner usually around 7 sometimes 8pm- usually chicken breast or fish and steamed veggies, or salad. Problem is, I eat that and I still feel a little hungry, but I stop because I'm scared I'll mess up my band or something. So before my diet consisted of a Venti Mocha at Starbucks in the am, lunch would be sushi, pizza, mexi food, or something from a fast food rest. dinner - fried chicken, pizza, fast food - something unhealthy, and always dessert. So, here I am eating healthy foods, eating about half the portion although still a little hungry and not losing anything. I'm getting a leeetle frustrated here. So it sounds like I should just get another fill after my trip, eh? I'm reading where some of you only have a few bites and you're full...man, I wish.

GIve it time and definitely wait till you come back from Hawaii. Tell me how you like it - DH and I are going in April for a 15 day cruise to Hawaii. We can't wait.

I have a whole room full of size 12 hawaii clothes I need to fit into....I really need to keep exercising so that I can hopefully wear them by then. It's only 6 months away now and I still have 50 lbs. to lose to wear a size 12. I really am trying to use that as a great reason to get up and exercise.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
