I'm praying that I'm not the only one who dummied up today!!! (not that I wish anyone bad)...I am 8 days post op...I am supposed to be on "Full Liquids"..."anything pourable".....However, I took it upon myself to decide it would be okay to partake in a little Thanksgiving dinner (no...I'm not a Dr....just lost my mind..haha)...I had probably less than half cup of food...(stuffing, cranberries and the inside only of pumpkin pie)....

My question to those of you who have been doing this is do you think I hurt anything???....I feel so guilty right now!!!!.....

You should be fine. I'm only 6 days post op but I am already on soft foods. So I could have had those things thought they aren't the healthiest for you. Just make sure not to overeat because you will feel nauseous and don't want to throw up.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Ok, I'll be the only truthful one here...yeah, as stated above you are probably going to be fine, and it is Thanksgiving and all. But then it is doing to be a Christmas party, and after all that only happens once a year, and then you must bake Cookies for a kids party at school and you just have to try one or two. Ok, Christmas only comes around once a year and Aunt Millie is making all those special treats that she makes for just you, etc.. Get my point.

Life has so very many "But I only ate" and "its only once a year" time, from holidays, birthdays, weddings, funerals etc.. and food will always be the center of it all. The bands we just had placed into our bodies are but mere tools and if we can't or won't get a hold of ourselves and restrain, that very expensive piece of plastic we had inserted inside of our bodies is not going to do a darn thing.

This is not a flame, or even a chewing out (cause even if it was who really cares anywho) it is just a reminder of why we are all here, and when we struggle someone here will stand up and remind us of what brought us here to begin with. Please take this in the context it was intended and not as me trying to be mean spirited.

I sincerely hope all goes well with you, and that you heal well and healthy, and please, when it is my turn to hear some truths, I hope you will stand with me.

Gentle Hugs

Cheryl

Thank you all for your words!...

GraciesMom~I especially thank you!...You're right!...all of those "one times"...and "only a littles" got me to where I am!...It's easy to loose perspective!!...I have to admit this Lap-Band is alot more work than I had anticipated!!....and when I first started browsing the boards (pre-band) I would get SO frustrated with people like myself!!!....It's time for me to pull up my big girl panties and suck it up!!....it's liquid for 4 weeks...not a life time!!!....I deeply appreciate your honesty!!!

I'm so glad you understood what it was I was really saying. It was not intented to be mean spirited, it was meant to remind you (and myself) that this is a life time commitment.

I know you will do well, and as I said before I am sure I will be leaning on you as well when I need my big (well maybe a bit smaller) girl pants pulled up where they need to be too!

Thank You also for your honesty, cuz I am betting there are a TON of others out there who did the exact same thing you did today, only they will be suffering in silence because they are to proud to admit their foody indescrection:sneaky:

I'm with you GraciesMom. This is too important for me to waste my time on food. I pulled up my big girl panties on Wednesday and planned what to do for Thursday so I wouldn't mess it all up. I did good too and I still don't feel deprived this morning. Thanks for the advice...there are probably lots of people out there that wish they had done better yesterday. Maybe this will help them to make a plan for all those other things you mentioned.

Thanks again.

GraciesMom,

It is wonderful you spoke what many of us probably think when someone admits to their weakness. Really, this is an unmoderated support group, so there is no professional to remind us why we are on this journey.

The admission of a weakness is a call for support and for clarity of purpose. Reminding each other that we have to live a little differently than those around us, and much more differently than our former selves is important. Thanks for taking that role today.

I was banded this week too... Maybe that does not give us the perspective that long time banders have, but we are closer to the decision we have all made to change.

I, for one, am glad to be on the journey with all of you. You all inspire me, and I am proud to read your successes and your pitfalls. Thanks for sharing them.....

TJ

Our lives will be full of choices like this. The diet restrictions are just an arbitrary recommendation based on the variety of diets people are placed on after surgery. Some people are back on solids after a few days. Some not for a month. As my doc told me, we know our bodies better than anyone because we live with them day in and day out.

Normal weight people also look forward to the great food at thanksgiving. None of my husband's family...or even extended family...are overweight. They live healthy, active lifestyles and eat in moderation. They do the same on Thanksgiving but they definitely look forward to the special foods that they only see at this time of year. It doesn't mean they're obsessed with food. Your wanting to partake is no more an obsession...and kudos for not eating more than 1/2 cup!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
