Lost my band on Monday

Recommended Posts

I went in to have my band replaced on Monday and instead they ended up just taking the old one out. The doctors said they ran into complications that meant life or death so they chose not to continue. They want to try again a few months from now or send me to a specialist.

I don't know what to do now? The pain following the procedure was so unbearable that I don't know if I can go through with it again. How did you cope?

People say that child birth is the worst pain that any woman will ever feel. I agree that child birth was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, but what I got out of it was three beautiful children (two girls via natural delivery and a boy via c-section). The result of the pain was well worth the pain.

Being banded wasnt so bad for me. It was that darn gas that just about paralyzed me with pain. Of course, my c-section was A LOT more painful, but this was up there on the pain scale. But again, the pain is part of the process. I had to keep telling myself that the pain would go away and the end result of being banded would be worth it all. And so far, it is. Of course, I have only been banded for just under a month.....

Give yourself some time to get over the procedure you just had to endure. Think about what you really want in terms of your body. If you dont think you can endure the pain one more time, then dont go through with being re-banded. But think back to the first time you were banded. You made it through it once. I am not sure how long ago you were banded or what your weightloss success was, but if you were happy with the progress, then consider being re-banded. You just have to get past the current pain. Hang in there!! Only you can make the decision. Just keep thinking about the OUTCOME of the decision and what would make you happy and healthier. GOOD LUCK!!!

I still have my band, but never think of it as forever,

I agree with you about the pain and trauma. The surgery and recovery for me was far worse than delivering both my children and yes, I was one who screamed and begged. I expected the surgery to be like when i had my gall bladder removed.

So, maybe you could try to maintain your weight loss without surgery? If it were me, I'd probably do that -try to go it alone using the skills I've learned by having the band. (which is tolerating being deprived and miserable.) If If you can't keep the weight off, then reconsider your decision.

I know you are scared and afraid-I would be,too. I don't think I could keep my weight off without the band, but I'd still try first. good luck to you

My band was taken out a month ago. I am surprised that you had so much pain. I only had pain the first day and discomfort the next to days but was off pain meds 3 days post-op. I am sorry it didn't go well for you. I feel so much better now that my band is gone. If I were you I would not have it put back in......I have been working with a trainer for the past 8 months and I have gained a lot of muscle and lost about 6% body fat. I am not "dieting" I am eating healthy. I try and eat organic, eat healthy fats, and Protein and limit my intake of carbohydrates. It is not easy but I take one day at a time and I am really feeling good.......Good Luck

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
