Hi all! My name is Marnie and I was banded on 11/10. I am glad to finally have gotten the surgery but I would love to pick your brains if you don't mind!

SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE THE SHOULDER PAIN GO AWAY!!! LOL I thought I was going to die yesterday, begging my husband to get me to a hospital. I didn't go, but for hours I cried in pain. I know this is normal. And I know everyone says to walk, which I have been doing. And drinking, and Gas X strips, and following the diet. But this is nuts!! It is a little better today, but still there and still painful, to the point I really feel like I can't use my arm. When will this stop? Any miracle cures? I have to go back to work tomorrow and I am just not sure what to do about it.

I know I have other questions, but I naturally can't think of them right now! So I guess I'll post more later when they come back to me!

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks!

Hi, and welcome to the Banded Life. I was lucky and did not have gas like that. I did take chewable Gas-X. The walking does help.

It will get better. Feel well, and feel free to ask all the questions you need to. I am still fairly new (10/5) and asl lots of questions too.

The Gas-X and walking does help. So does holding your arms up over your head as much as possible. Mine lasted about a week and will come back if I eat too fast.

I hope you get better and feel free to ask any questions anytime. We're all here to help each other.

Hi

You are getting the best advice here.. Keep moving, at least every few hours get up and walk.. it really is the only way to move the gas (out). I feel for you for returning to work so soon. I waited five days and I was still sore (mainly in my port area). I foolishly wore pants that zipped and buttoned, and had to unzip my pants at my desk. I stood up when some one walked into my office and SURPRISE!!, my pants almost fell down (not too embarassing). So don't do that.. wear comfortable strechy waist pants if you can, and continue to walk.. You will feel better and congrats on the start of your journey. This board is wonderful, and I am so happy that I discovered it.

Be well

First I want to say congrats to you and all of us here!!!! I was lucky with the gas but I have a tickle in my throat that hits me just when i'm off gard:eek:. I heard if you have a rocker you need to rock and rock as much as you can. It works the gas up and out . Hope it helps

Your shoulder pain is not from gas at this point. It is from pressure on a nerve. My surgeon did warn me of this before surgery, but I had no idea how bad the pain would be or how long it would last. Mine lasted a couple months and then was my "full signal" for awhile.

The best thing I found to help was putting menthol pain Patches on my shoulder. You can find them at Walmart or places like that. I would just put one on my shoulder in the evening and leave it on all night.

Congratulations!!! Welcome to your new life! This board is such a great resource when you have questions no matter how random they seem. I always manage to get answers..these people are amazing! It sounds like you've already gotten some good advice.....Gas X strips and walking were the key to getting rid of that awful feeling. Truth be told, because of those two things, I only had that pain for two days!

Good luck on your journey!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
