Prior to my lapband surgery (6-9-09) I was the Water drinking champ!! Since surgery, not so much. Are you experiencing the same?

How much water are you supposed to drink everyday?

How much do you drink per day?

Any ideas or clues on how to get it all in?

Do you think it helps with moving the weight loss along?

How important do you think getting the water in is?

I think it is important to get in at least 64 oz of Water a day. Sometimes I fall short of this amount though. I don't always like drinking straight water so I drink sugar free kool-aid a lot. The grape is my favorite!:tongue2:

How much Water are you supposed to drink everyday? Doc told me between 64 and 96 ounces (ugh)

How much do you drink per day? about 66 to 80 (ugh)

Any ideas or clues on how to get it all in? Crystal light raspberry lemonade flavor. I have a 33 oz bottle at my desk at work and as long as I get through one in the a.m. and one in the p.m., I'm set for the day. I have a Decaf tea in there which adds 8 oz a cup, so somehow I manage. When I'm not at work, that's another story.

Do you think it helps with moving the weight loss along? That's what they say, but I have no clue. I had my surgery 10/21 and have lost 15 lbs since. Not sure if water has anything to do with it.

How important do you think getting the water in is? Again, I go by what the doc tells me. I've never EVER been a water drinker, I just haven't wanted to drink it in the past, but I've learned from this whole process that a lot of things I did in the past contributed to me getting the way I did and for that, a need for ignificant change was in order.....

I will dispute your claim, I think I was the Water drinking champion. Based on lots of reading, and personal trial and still feeling thirsty, I came to accept the formula, take your weight and divide by two. That is how many oz of Water you should be drinking. The whole idea that eight 8 oz glasses, or 64 oz was the accepted norm for all people of all gender, size, etc, I just did not buy.

Anyway, before surgery, I would average 7 liters, or about 210 oz of water a day. Sure, it took a bit to get used to that volume, and it took some time to schedule your bathroom visits. But that worked for me. Post band, the first two weeks I could barely get the 64 oz down, sipping all day long. Now at 5 weeks out, and waiting for my first fill, I am averaging 4 liters, about 132 oz a day comfortably. I don't feel thirsty at this amount, (slightly yellow urine still, not clear)

I am a firm believer that water helps flush out toxins, fats, and keep your system functioning better. I feel more energy with increased water. I believe it helps with digestion, intestines and waste removal. I think it hydrates your skin, helps you look younger, less sagging skin. I think it reduces hunger feelings. Many times, your feelings of fatigue, tired, headaches, back pain are caused by dehydration.

All that being said.... YOU MUST DO WHAT IS RIGHT FOR YOU, and FOLLOW YOUR DOCTORS advice. Stop drinking before your meal, no drinking with the meal. Wait 1 hour (or Dr. advice) after eating, before starting to drink again. This is the part that I am struggling with, but then again, I am waiting for my first fill. But I know that I should be getting in the correct habits now.

Anyway, that is my personal opinions :tongue2:

My dr said for me to take in a minimum of 64 ounces of Fluid a day. He counts Decaf tea as fluids. Water makes me nauseous.

Here is what I get in each day:

12 ounces of decaf coffee before Breakfast

20 ounce mug of decaf tea between Breakfast and lunch (I start drinking 1 and 1/2 hour after my meal)

20 ounce mug of decaf tea between lunch and supper

20 ounce mug of decaf tea after supper, before bed.

Today was a long day, so I make another 12 ounces of decaf coffee when I got home.

Prior to my LAP-BAND® surgery (6-9-09) I was the Water drinking champ!! Since surgery, not so much. Are you experiencing the same?

It took some time to work back up to it after surgery.

How much Water are you supposed to drink everyday?

At least 64 oz.

How much do you drink per day? 64 oz or more.

Any ideas or clues on how to get it all in? The more you exercise the thirstier you will get.

Do you think it helps with moving the weight loss along?

Yes I do.

How important do you think getting the water in is?

It's been proven necessary to stay properly hydrated to obtain healthy skin and cleanse and cool our bodies among other things.

I purchased a case of 20oz bottled Water. I drink three each day. I use crystal lite to help give it some flavor. This method helped me because it was the easier way to calculate how much I would drink each day. Between times, I might drink some Decaf SF tea or 1% milk.

Yep. Prior to surgery I was drinking close to a gallon of water per day. Now, I have to force myself to drink my required 64 oz. I'm guessing it's due to the lack of sodium in my diet now.

Yes, the water helps with weight loss. It makes all your organs function efficiently. Without the hydration, they have to work harder meaning they don't do the job they were designed to do as well as they could. I know that if I get sidetracked and don't get my water in, I start dragging...a definite loss of energy and I get a bit brain fogged.

I just make it a point to drink a 20 oz bottle between my meals and another one in the evening (plus a bit more). I find it's easier to get down if it's just water and not flavored.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
