Did anyone lose weight 6 weeks post op?

Recommended Posts

I was banded on 10/21 and I've lost about 10. I'm glad I saw this thread-- I was just wondering what the average was, since I'm on freaking 600 calories a day--I should hope I'm losing weight LOL! I hope time goes faster until I get my first fill in December! I would love to be down 30 lbs come Christmas, but I'm not even sure what's realistic because I know everyone is so different! Good luck to everyone!

I know this seems backwards, but once your calorie intake is too low, your body will hold onto weight (starvation mode). Once you start getting an adequate amount of calories, your body will function as it should and the scale will move. Weird isn't it?

After surgery I was losing 1 pound a day. About 5wks after I had done lost 26lbs. My doctor told me he rather I lost fast in the beginning because your band with adjust and your weight will slow down. Please don't count on weight loss anyway. You some people lose inches. The scale is just numbers.

I'm 11 weeks post-op and have lost a total of 38 pounds. Doing great and right on target according to my doctor.

I'm 10 days post op, and according to my doc's scale, I've only lost a pound since surgery. According to my home scale, I've lost 4 pounds...I have to admit, it is really bugging me. I'm hardly eating and doing everything I'm supposed to do - pre-surgery, I was losing weight steadily and now, nothing.

I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing and I have to believe the scale will eventually start moving again.

You are not alone. I lost 23 lbs on the pre op diet. I went to my first post op appt today and I put on 4lbs. I asked if its because I had my period and my Dr. said that was likely. She also said my body could simply be adjusting and not to worry. So I'm not going to. Not gonna touch a scale again until I have my first fill Dec. 14th.

I was banded exactly 4 weeks ago. I am down 22 lbs.

The first six weeks is really an in between period (until the first fill) and it can be very tough to make some adjustments.

Right now I am working from my own will power (exercise and diet control), its as if the band is not even in place, though I have the scars to prove it.

I am following the golden rules of Protein first, then veggies, etc. Have been staying at about 1000 calories.

What I think has made a difference is the exercise part (everyday). I NEVER really exercised before.

Hang in there, this is not a quick fix approach.

I'm about 5 and a half weeks post op. I have lost 30 lbs. since surgery. I noticed in the last 2 weeks my weight loss has slowed to about 2-3 lbs. per week.

Unfortunately my insurance will only let me have a fill every 3 months so I have to wait for my first fill until late Jan. 2010.

I have noticed my hunger increasing between meals but I'm sticking to a 1200 calorie diet and exercising 5 days a week for about 1-2 hours a day.

Good Luck!

I lost post-op too, and was told that was unusual. I think most would lose initially on the liquid diet, unless they go for milkshakes. Again, it may depend on your choices and how restricted you feel during the latter post-op period as to what you lose. It seems for most here, and me, the weight loss slowed down when you get to regular foods. I wouldn't want to discourage anyone who gains because 6 weeks post-op is for healing not losing. Once the right restriction is there, and you follow the guidelines, it will happen.

I am 7 weeks post op and down 30lbs. lost about 15 in the first 2 weeks, but people tend to varry in the results. The big thing I notice, is I am noticably thinner in the face in the last 3 weeks, I had pix taken on holloween and again tonight and you can tell a big difference in just the last 3 or 4 weeks. Dont sweat it, just follow the Dr's orders and youll do fine!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
