Yogurt and heartburn ??

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I was banded on the 2nd October 2009, so im currently 3 weeks post op.

Ever since i have had the band if i eat yogurt i get a feeling of heartburn/Indigestion. (this i never experience before i was banded).

Does anyone else have this issue with yogurt?

Is it a common problem that lots of people have ?

There are some foods that I just don't eat anymore. Yogurt isn't one of them for me, but maybe it's one that you won't be able to eat - at least for now.

Could be one of those foods that will just affect you for awhile. Have you tried Greek yogurt or just switching to cottage cheese?

I can eat yogurt but certain dairy products do bother me since having my lapband surgery. Ice cream, milk, cheese. I have no explanation why. It does seem my tolerance is better than it was a few months ago.

Yogurt tears me up since the surgery- milk too...don't know why but it sure is weird. I can't eat fruit skin anymore either- like nectarines or grapes- I literally have to peel them in order to not have terrible pain and the feeling that its stuck... good luck and maybe lay off the yogurt for awhile and try again in a month.

It's amazing - I don't even think about the foods that I can't eat anymore. Grapes. Used to be such a favorite, but they sure didn't work the last time I tried.

cheese is my problem and apparently pork is too. I had a painful episode over pork last week and again tonight. I was told to peel all fruit especially apples.

Try again later. It might change. Good luck. Oh, I forgot, I've read several posts where people said that they developed a lactose problem after surgery...maybe that's it.

Yes, I started having problems with heartburn/reflux this week and did some research I was surprised that yogurt or any cultured/femented food is very high in acid (take a peek at my blog here on LBT-link in sig; from a few days ago for what I'm doing about it). I'd been eating a lot of Greek yogurt, but I'm putting that to a halt until this heals. Reflux with the band is the most common side effect (I've never had it before) and unless you get treatment it can result in some very serious issues. Just Google 'foods that are high in acid' and you'll find lots of lists...some of them really surprised me.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
