Does the weight loss increase your sex drive?

Recommended Posts

My hubby doesnt want me to have the band, he doesnt think I need it and utterly loves all my lumps, bumps and wobbly bits just as they are.

Which means we have a really good sex life, because we both fancy the pants of each other and are happy with how the other person looks naked.

So I dont think a band would increase our libido as such because it's already pretty high, but I think for me it will make me feel a whole heap sexier so perhaps it will up mine a bit more? Poor hubby, he's already knackered before work!

My sex drive has increased 100 times. I never wanted sex when I was fat and now that I am close to goal I never say no and most often are the one initiating sex. It may be that I am also 42 and feel at my peak.

Never the less, I have a smile on my face every day.

Transition is always harder mentally than physically. You may need just a little time for your head to catch up with your body.:wink2:

I went for a couple of years, single and without sex. (I know, it was a serious dry spell, but I was in grad school . . . .). :smile2:

However, since my weight loss, my sex drive has rebounded and I miss sex like never before. I think it has a lot to do with my body image and my confidence.

My two cents, anyway.

Oh yes, and when your guy all of a sudden tosses you on top of him backwards style like you are a doll, that's the moment you know you're not still the same heavy woman in bed. Being tossed a little is good for the ego, lol...not only that, but all the male hormones directed your way and all the attention, well, yes, it makes your sex drive go up!

For those of you losing your sex drive as you lose weight, it may be caused by your hormones. Remember, when you are very heavy, fat cells produce testosterone - male hormone. That's why being overweight tends to cause things like facial hair, PCOS, irregular periods, etc. Testosterone, as we all know, also increases sex drive. So naturally as the fat goes away, so does the excess testosterone. Rest assured that it all balances out when your weight stabalizes.

Oh I remember my 40's (I'm 52 now) and I was in overdrive. Wore my hubby out, lol. I'm hoping after losing more weight, some of that will come back.

I sure hope my sex drive increases with weight loss. I'm only 21, my husband is 23, and we never have sex. Really, I think we have done it maybe 3 times in the last 6 months.:blushing: Oh and to top it off, we're newlyweds...just got married this year. I just don't feel like having sex when I feel like a look like a big blubbery whale, and my husband can tell that I don't enjoy it. So, it just doesn't happen.

I've lost 97 pounds now and my sex drive is way down. I don't get it. You would think it would be better. Maybe it's a hormonal thing. I don't know. Anyway, I do hope it gets better.

Mine has suffered too, I have read here that the hormones settle back in after the weight stabalizes. I hope so..... My daughter has lost 100lbs and says her's is better than ever!! She also sees a hormone specialist and takes hormones!!!

Nessa38, you sound as though you are telling my story. I had my band put in July '08 and have had a decreasing drive since then. Not even fantasy works for me anymore. My hubby is unhappy, he used to worry that he would need Viagra to keep up with me!

I don't know what is woing, my hormone levels are actually improving, my menstrual cycles are becoming more regular I feel alot more attractive, and based upon the reactions from strange men I guess that I look it, too.

I wish it would come back. I wonder if they make a female version on Cialis or Viagra......

I haven't been banded yet, but me and my boyfriend have a pretty healthy sex drive as it is, as we're both big. Both of us feel a lot more randy with each pound we lose- so I hope it stays that way once I'm banded!

Since I've lost weight, I can't get enough of my hubby. But then again, he's deployed, so maybe that's why I'm so "needy." But I don't really see it changing much when he gets home. We talk about it all the time. Ha.

Its strange isnt it? I dont feel unattractive, but for me, sex is OK but its not like in the movies. I enjoy it, but really only in an "its nice to have a cuddle" kind of way.It just doesnt feel as great as I think its supposed to. I'd jump at a female viagra!

My weight has been stable for well over 2 years now and I was never more than a BMI of 36 to begin with, so I dont really think it can be caused by changing hormones. Perhaps I was low on testosterone to begin with - I'm fairly lightly muscled, have very little body hair (can go weeks without shaving my legs), never got pimples at such during adolescence, who knows?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
