Discouraged...

Recommended Posts

:mad2:I am so discouraged..I had my surgery 2-1-07 and lost 60 lbs the first year, which was great. Have not lost a single pound since Aug of 2008, in fact have gained about 4 lbs. Had a fill in Jan of this year, maybe too tight because most of the time I cannot get what I need to eat to go down, so I tend to eat what will go down easy and that is the stuff that is not good for me. Exercise is very hard because I have very bad knees. Do I need to go have some removed from my band so I can get the Protein down? Can you gain weight by not eating enough? I eat less than half of what I ate before my surgery and still do not lose..I am so very depressed over this, I paid out of pocket for my band, so I feel like 60 lbs cost me $9500.00. Any help, tips, advice would be appreciated.. Thanks, LK Bear

LK Bear:

Sounds like you are eating only slider foods. These are bad for two reasons, first of all they don't stay in your pouch long enough to tell your brain that you are full, and second they are usually higher calorie than the foods you should be eating to lose weight and keep healthy. Please go and see your doctor and get a small unfill. Best wishes to you.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

Sue

When we say "small" unfill, we really mean small! .2cc would be an excellent amount to get taken out and see how you do. Once you can eat normal diet and do away with the "easy" stuff, you'll be eating better, getting more Water in and you start the downward trend again.

Maybe try doing the Protein Shakes again for two of your three meals to get you started. I get the Unjury brand but I am sure anything you use would be ok. At least you would be getting Protein and less calories. I too have been on a plateau for many months but have just recently started slowly losing by adding some stationary bike exercise and doing more protein shakes which I had stopped drinking. Good luck.

I am in the same fix as you had my surgery Aug 08 have lost 19lbs and nothing more. but I find that I only want to eat cheetos and popcorn. I know it is my own fault, I am like you I eat half of what I use to eat and still am not loosing. I gag when I have to drink the Protein Shakes but looks like I really need to buck up and do right. good luck to you.

I hated Protein Drinks as they all had that awful aftertaste. I now use Unjury exclusively and just the chocolate flavor which I make less "chocolately" by using Decaf coffee and milk together and mix it so it tastes less sweet and like a moca shake.< /p>

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
