First Fill and Feeling Tight!

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I had my first fill today, he put in 3.5cc's. He had me do a little crunch and put the needle in. It was over in just a second. He had me drink down some Water to make sure it went down.

I felt fine until I left the office, and then I had the overwhelming feeling to burp.. and only some comes up. Everytime I burp it feels SO GOOD!! It just feels like air is stuck in my stomach. I can drink just a little bit, it hurts if I drink too much.

I hope this feeling of tightness and the feeling of burping/gas goes away. I took two gas-x strips earlier this evening but so far it hasn't really helped.

I hope someone can tell me that it subsides overnight and I will feel better tomorrow?

Funny how every person's experiences are different. I'll let you know how I am feeling tomorrow.. I'm hoping better! I am taking sips of water.. need to make sure I get in my Protein too over the next day.

Wish me luck!!!!!!

I must agree my ability to burp is not as good as it was before and I really liked to burp, now I am holding gas in my bowels which is not fun but this just started today and I had my fill on Tuesday evening, I started eating eggs today and they went down okay but I didn't burp much afterwards so I will have to ease back into foods again, but it felt okay.

I am always way tight after a fill, I guess I swell with the fill. But it goes down and gets better each day for about 3-5 days... Hang in there, but if you get where you cant keep liquids in definately call your doctor.

It takes a bit of getting used to. The 1st fill can be a dramatic difference. I remember losing 5kgs in a w/e after a fill. Unfortunately, I was partying, not eating & drinking a bit of alcohol. I nearly dehydrated, but woke up to what was going on. This is where the REALLY conscious intake part of your life begins. Don't worry tho, it's easy to adapt. You might hit a few bumps in the road. I'm 7yrs post banding & I still occasionally find myself 'stuck' or stuggling & don't know why. I'm excited for you, cause I know you're going through the 'wow' stage-losing & feeling fantastic about it. If you struggle with Water & cant drink a litre of Fluid in a day, then you're too tight & need to go back & have a little let out. Good luck, & happy days!

Today I feel SO MUCH BETTER!!:scared2: Around 11pm last night it seemed to suddenly calm down. I am able to drink Water and my Protein drinks fine. My doctor said to stick to liquids for the next 24-48 hours.

We'll see how I feel when I start eating... one little bite at a time!!:)

Kate! I'm glad you're feeling better already. I had my first fill on Tuesday, too. And it was a complete and total non-event, luckily for me.

Before the fill, I could already tell that "something" was in there because I felt satisfied w/less food than before, but I could eat anything I tried and I was eating 1 to 1.5 cups of food per meal. I had 1cc in a 10cc band prior to the fill. Now I'm up to 3ccs. And I'm satisfied w/even less. So we'll see how long that lasts. Hopefully for awhile!

I had a little issue today... fortunately it resolved itself before too long.

I got a stir-fry in our cafeteria and I think the meat was dry and/or I didn't chew as much as I should have. I got that "stuck" feeling and I think "slime". I had to go to the bathroom at work to spit out the extra saliva but then suddenly it went down and it was ok. I don't think I'll get that stir fry again.. it wasn't even that good. I took a few more bites afterward and then threw it out and went and bought a couple of hard boiled eggs. I find they are a good thing for me... go down well and they are satisfying. I just had some homemade chicken Soup that I had frozen and it went down fine, but it should since it is soup! :(

I pretty much feel like before my first fill at this point.. although I think I am a little less hungry? :scared2: I can tell I will need another fill though... Oct. 22nd is my next!

I had my first fill and when the Dr. put the Fluid in it felt like it ran down the inside of my stomach, I don't have any restriction and wonder if anyone has felt this ? a leak with the port? What did you feel when they did your 1st. fill?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
