Constipation....holy ^&*%*

Recommended Posts

To update my experience, I got Miralax and been taking 2 stool stofteners a day--no relief. I had to get the enema (liquid glycerine) for relief, I thought I was going to die!!! Well this definetely cleaned me out but I couldn't go to work yesterday because of it. I hope I never have to go through this again! Still miserable today.

What kind of stool softener does anyone use? I did my presugery shopping & got the colace generic. When I opened the bottle it's got a gel on half of it. Dont think it can be crushed or split in half. :)

whyw8-I take the little gel caps and have no problem thus far but I have no restriction yet. I buy them at costco which seems to be most cost efficient. Good luck!

mbranham0306 - Do you have relief now? I found the balance with 2 softeners nightly and eating Wheat Thins Fiber Selects everyday! They are really tasty too so easy to eat!

I just discovered a PROBIOTIC cheese. Its made by DCI Cheese Co, their County Line brand, and comes in several flavors. The package claims that you should see results after having 1 oz for at least 14 days. I tried the Pepper Jack. Each oz has 100 calories, 8g Protein, 8 g fat, 0 carb. I've only had it for 4 days, so too soon to tell if it works. But I like the taste, and its an easy way to get in my protein. I've been having 2 oz a day, either in an omlette or with a piece of fruit.< /p>

I find that one ounce of Fiber One Cereal everyday really helps. Plus I take Vitamins with extra Magnesium. I find that I am not drinking as much Water as I used to so it is difficult to stay regular.:wink2:

Every week I make a massive amount of vegetable Soup. Add all different colour vegies, add low sodium chicken stock to taste and use a hand blender when cooked. I have 2 - 4 cups a day. That way you get extra vegies in, its a great snack and it keeps you regular.

I also blend frozen fruits with yogurt, its just like soft serve ice cream.

I take the generic colace (1/2 gel tab 1/2 regular tab) without any problems. They are small enough to swallow even after 2 fills.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
