post of weight gain!

Recommended Posts

I am 2 weeks post op and while things seem to be going ok...I have gained 5 pounds back this week!

HOW does one gain weight when they are on an all liquid diet of less than 800 calories a day?

The only thing NEW is that my General Dr. cut out my heart pill which is a diuretic, and lowered my insulin in half and cut my BP meds down 75%.

Not sure why the weight gain, but it is ticking me off to no end!

It is not like I am cheating and EATING something...

Very discouraged at this point!

You are not the only one experiencing the up and down lbs. I do not understand it either. I have no restriction yet. I am doing 800 calories also. I go down 1 lb and up 2 lbs. They are adjusting my meds also. Scarey to me cause my bp drops 30 points at a time. Guess we both have to have patience. What are you eating?

I am not Eating anything yet. Was to start pureed food today, but not feeling up to it..especially after getting on the scale this morning!

I am doing 3 Protein Shakes a day, with sugar free Jello and no sugar added popsicles for Snacks.< /p>

BORING, and depressing!

Don't be discouraged, the change in meds probably does have a lot to do with it. I also take a BP med with a diuretic in it, and if I miss taking it for just 2 days I'll pick up anywhere from 4 to 7 pounds of Water weight. Also, it's possible your body is holding on to whatever it can because you're getting so few calories. Go ahead and progress your diet at your doctor prescribed and keep the faith. Things are slow going and even backward sometimes in the beginning, but a year from now you'll be a whole new person! Hang in there!

THanks for all of the words of encouragement...it is frustrating to NOT lose weight when you are NOT eating...

I am getting all of my Vitamins and Proteins, with about 10 grams of fat and 800 calories!

I just want to see the scale move down..not UP...

Don't worry. I have done the same thing. Gained a couple of pounds for no good reason and then lost them again. Back and forth. Strange!

If am reading your ticker correctly, you lost 28 lbs in two weeks!?! I'd say that's cause for celebration! I haven't lost that much and I'm a month out now!

Remember, you are still healing. This is honestly not a time to be concerned about the scale, but about healing. Your gain could be due to many things: the stress your body has undergone, the change in your meds with no diuretic, the decreased calories compared to what you used to have, postop swelling, etc.

My doctor warned I might gain during this time period. Some people do. Many people gain and lose the same few pounds over this period (what I did) and a few will lose.

Just keep doing what your doc told you to. The scales WILL go down, but give your body a chance to adjust to all the changes. My nutritionist did tell me I was likely eating too little during this stage so encouraged me to increase my calories. If you have any questions, contact them for guidance.

Otherwise, what you are experiencing seems to be pretty normal.

Jacq, I agree with everyone. Plus, right now weight loss should come second to healing. Stay away from that scale! Nutrition is the most important part. As you will learn with time, this surgery will make it harder for you to heal.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
