banded on 9/16 please tell me it is worth it...

Recommended Posts

I had terrible nausea the first night and into the morning until I could finally get some relief when the dr called in phergan. I hurt...please tell me this wasn't a mistake...I thought I would have bounced back better than I have!!

Give yourself time to heal. I think it is worth it, I think in a couple of days you will feel better. Hang in there!!!

Yes, it is worth it. I was banded on 8/19 and had a lot of pain from the gas they fill you up with. I'm 4 weeks out and am very glad I did the surgery. Give yourself time to heal and follow the food instructions you have been given.

It is so worth it!!

I have been banded since October 27, 2008. I cannot believe that it is almost a year. I have lost approx. 64 pounds. I am active. I feel amazing. And, I am so happy.

Let yourself rest and heal. Give yourself a break. And, know that for many of us, the surgery was worth it.

It is oh so worth it.

Banded 8/20. Four weeks out, I have lost 20-23 lbs (depends upon whose scales you believe).

I am off diabetes meds, checking next week to get off of cholesterol meds, and I'm thinking BP meds can't be far behind.

I had my first fill today. Clear liquids today, full liquids tomorrow, regular diet on Sunday.

I had no pain associated with the surgery at all -- but I was tired. Really, really tired. But I am 54 years old, so I'm thinking part of that was age related.

Hang in there. It will be better.

The only time I second guessed my decision was when my temp spiked in the hospital. (I have a compromised immune system due to chemo).

But, hey, I am on the green side of the grass. Life is good!

kristik99,

I know exactly what you are going through! I was banded on the 14th, and didn't even feel human again until yesterday. The first day after surgery, I threw up all day. The dr called me in some phenegren, and that helped a lot, but I still get nauseous if I move around too quick. I'm still weak, I've decided to take another week off of work just to be on the safe side.

You will start feeling better, but it will take a few days!!

It is so worth it.

I was banded 6/24. Had my first fill 9/14 and I'm down 55 lbs. Don't get discouraged and stick with it.

So worth it! But if you had asked me during the two weeks after surgery (8/25), I would have said, "Run for your life!" But I feel great. Diabetes is already in remission. I have more energy than I can believe. I feel WONDERFUL! I've dropped 22 lbs and will have my first fill next week. So hang in there, girl. It is definitely worth it!

I felt like I had done the stupidest thing ever at first - terrible gas pain in my hip of all places and just felt violated - now i forget it's there - you will feel great again. The band hasn't really worked for me but i'm in the minority. You will feel much better each day but it took me a month to feel normal again. total loss over 4yrs only 20lbs (but i did have a baby in between), still pretty dissapointing.

No, kristi, it was not a mistake! I've had my band for a year, and it was absolutely the best decision I could have made to get me back in the game. I still want to lose about 25 lbs (give or take), and I'm still losing, but I can participate in so many activities now, that I didn't have the energy or endurance to do B.B. (before band). I can hike, I'm going snow skiing for the first time in ten years this winter (before I got so heavy I was an avid skier), I'm not mortified to be seen in my swimsuit, etc, but most of all, I feel much healthier and I know I've added years back to my life.

I noticed this is your first post, tjr, and first off, congratulations on your baby. If there's anything you think we can help you with to get back on track with the band, please ask. You can start a new thread to give us some background info and why you think you're having problems. Granted, the band doesn't work for everyone, but I know there's a lot of knowledgeable and very helpful people here who would be more than happy to give you helping hand.

You're 2 days post-op. While I felt pretty much completely normal almost immediately (the next day after surgery), that is defininately not the most common experience. You have to give it a few more days. Anesthesia needs to get out of your system completely, you need to re-hydrate fully, rest as much as you need to, move around as much as you feel up to it (to help get rid of gas) and you really should be bouncing back in another couple of days.

I completely agree, PC - I was also going to mention the anesthesia, it is SUCH a depressant. Once that gets out of your system, along w/gas pain, there will be no looking back!!!

It's soooo worth it. You'll feel like crap for a few days...then you'll feel a little better each day following. I could sleep on my stomach again by about a week and a half out and that made life SO much better. I promise things will get better but it's hard to see that right now. Get lots of sleep...it makes the hard parts go by more quickly!

I was banded 9/11/09 and luckily did not have any vomitting but lots of pain. And today at my post-op appointment found out my Iron is down which is why I have been so tired and bruising. I have lost 12lbs since surgery date and have a friends that keeps telling me it is worth it so hang in there.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
