I was banded yesterday and I have the same worries! With everything sugar free and clear I think the most calories I have had is about 15 between broth and jello! What did you do about the bloating? It seems like that is causing me the most pain.

i have slept in my recliner since the surgery. The gas pain was really bad i couldnt lay down in bed. I read on here about gas x strips that melt in your mouth. i took 2 strips in the evening of day two, it didnt seem to help, but in the middle of the night i finally felt a little differant and had my first bit of gas removal. Was never so happy to toot. i dont like walking but i am doing it every 2-3 hours, it not much but its movment. i want to really follow the program, so i am going to deal with the lack of energy and weakness until i start drinking the protien shakes again. it may be a coinsadence but on day two i started drinking 4oz glass of 100% blueberry juice it is so good and good for you

Just follow your postop diet as given to you by your surgeon. Don't add anything that isn't approved without clearing it first. For example I was on Clear Liquids week one and that meant NO Protein. NO fruit juice. Mostly just broth and Water and Decaf tea or coffee.

We have fat stores so as long as we're hydrated, (and if you're diabetic, as long as your blood sugar is controlled) going a while with little/no calories won't hurt you.

If you are weak, well, you just had surgery. Even laparoscopic, it is considered "major abdominal surgery" Give it time. You'll feel better each day.

And again, check with your surgeon before eating or drinking anything not on your post op diet. I know many of us don't think too much of "cheating" on a diet but the post op one is VITAL to your recovery; think of it more as a prescription for health.

And remember right now you are healing. Dont' worry about calories, weight loss, etc. Just let your body recover and get used to the band.

And most importantly: Congratulations!

Just a quick note to share my "gas-ie" situation. I too tried the gas-x strips.....my mouth was so dry that they didn't dissolve on my tongue....just sorta gummed up.

Then I tried the chewable cherry ones...tasted great, but didn't have enough of the simenthecone (sp?). Then real help finally arrived....Gas-x liquid gels with a higher amount of the active ingredient...Give them a try!!!

Was also banded on the 15th. All is going ok so far except the gas as well. Going out today for the first time to do a little shopping. Will look for some form of Gas-X. Be glad to start on the Protein Shakes. Starting to feel a little hungry and really sick of juice! <BLEH> Best of luck to all of you!

There's two kinds of gas post op...one is the kind we generate and unfortunately there's a LOT of that, even on broth and liquids, I guess because of our new internal "configuration". For something like that, Gas X or something with simethecone will work wonders!

However there is also gas in the abdominal cavity that is pumped in during surgery to spread our organs apart and make surgery easier for the surgeon...and ultimately for us! If the surgeon doesn't remove all or most of that it can HURT when we're closed up and it's still in there. And unfortunately gas x doesn't TOUCH that because it's outside of our digestive system. Until the body absorbs it and moves it out, it can hurt like the devil.

Walking helps both types! And Gas X helps the type we make. Asking your surgeon to remove the gas (for those reading this who haven't been banded) will help the other.

Hang in there!

I tried the gas-x strips! Worked great! Also another little helper I found was sucking on sugar-free peppermint lifesavers! I have had the worst cotton mouth and the lifesavers worked wonderful! Almost like a like a little treat!:blushing:

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
