BIG steps, trying not to get too excited

Recommended Posts

After many, many years, I have finally decided to go forward with the Lap-band!! Woohoo!! I am so excited, I feel so great now that I've finally made this decision. And so far, everything is going great. I've found a surgeon and made it past the very first step in his process and have my first actual consult on September 29. I've gotten all the records, insurance information, letters, etc that I need. I keep expecting to be stopped at every turn, but so far, things are just moving right along. I met with my PCP today and was totally expecting her to try to talk me out of it. But instead, she and her nurse were super supportive and they said the surgeon (Dr. Harris in Wilmington, NC) is great. I am trying not to get too excited yet since there's still much to do and I don't want to be dissapointed...but it's not working!

Hey, That is great you are so excited. Isn't a great feeling? Once you know this is it, you kind of feel like "This is going to be a success!" It is a great feeling. Waiting for all the stages to be complete can be rough. But, it sounds like your are knocking them off quickly. Go Go. Good luck with everything...and may time move fast for these purposes. Liz

Thanks! The surgeon's office called yesterday and they had a cancellation on the 15th, so I'm acutally going two weeks earlier than I was expecting. Sometimes everything just works out!! Yay!

Sometimes its a very simple process. Good luck on your weight loss!

Good for you!! I am in the same boat. Once, I made up my mind to do it, and got my family on board. It feels great! I had my intake appointment this moring. This kind of sounds wierd but I was glad to hear that my insurance is non-paying. Luckily we are financially blessed and selfpay will not be a problem. So, that will speed things up.

Thanks Brandy. It gives me hope that my insurance process will be quick, too.

Brent, it doesn't sound strange - if I had the means, I'd be glad that I could just move forward, too. I saw someone else here say that they took out a loan so that they didn't have to wait the 6 months required by their insurance company.

Congratulations! I had my surgery two weeks ago, and I can remember feeling just like you waiting and waiting....forever it seems. I got approval from my insurance and my husband's and all went great in surgery. Good luck on your journey, and ask any questions you might have. We want to help others on our journey!

Ok, tomorrow's my appointment with the surgeon and the bariatic coordinator. What questions do I need to remember to ask?

Write down anything and everything you can think of. It's very likely they will answer the questions before you even get to that point but better safe than sorry.

Make sure you that you discuss after care with them and their fill processes. Find out if they use numbing gels for fills. How soon after surgery can you have a fill. Do they have a liquid diet. What is their post op diet. Is there a doctor available for emergency unfills. Will the nurses take questions over the phone if you think of more ... etc

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
