Need Lap Band Buddy / Mentor Looking for a mentor

Recommended Posts

Hello my name is Emily. I am 32 and was banded on May 21st. My highest weight was 303lbs and am currently 277. My weight loss has been slow so far as I lost about 15 lbs before surgery. I have had 2 fills and am getting a 3rd one today which I am hoping will get me closer to my sweet spot.

My biggest struggles are consistency. I work a lot and like most of us have a high stress lifestyle. I know what I should be doing but often lack the self control to do it. I will do really good for 2 - 6 weeks and then fall off. I then do poorly for awhile before I can get back into healthier habits. I am looking for someone to help me with accountability without beating me up when I am struggling.

Mentally I understand it took me 10 years to put on this weight and its unreasonable for ME to expect to lose it in 6 months.

I struggle with emotional and stress eating. I also have PCOS which slows my weight loss.

I live in Gilroy, CA (about 80 miles south of San Francisco). I am married with no children.

Thank You for reading

Hi: It is sooo easy to fall back into old habits- consistency is really what is necessary to succeed and from that consistency comes new habits to replace the old. I am 5 years out and still find myself slipping - I just go back to basics each time and that helps- a diet of mostly Protein for a day or 2 to get the carbs that I have overeaten out of my system - I found that with working lots of hours and having a high stress life planning was my greatest tool ..planning my meals in advance and always carrying something with me so I never got stuck buying fast food in a pinch....also, lots of water...you can pm me if you want some more ideas or so we can talk more specifics- I lost 250 lbs and have been able to maintain it...and, you are right- slow and steady wins the race....you just need that steady part worked on a little- but you can do it!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
