Shrinking Violets - Part 5!

Anybody else following the Apple announcement going on right now?

DH is working from home today, so he's streaming it live... it's called the "iPad" -- yes, let the femine-hygiene jokes begin ("Does it come in iMini and iMaxi? With iWings?"). To me, the un-geeky, it looks like a bigger iPhone. Eh.

I personnally wouldn't go for the iPad but it just shows where we are headed. Our phones, televisions, video games, laptops, etc are all merging into one device.

Eventually they will probably all fit in a pocket . . . but who wants to watch something so small. Perhaps the next step are special 3D glasses kinda like bifocals so you can live half your life in the real world and half in never never land, lol.

Actually it kind of makes you wonder about our future as we become more technologically advanced. It probably bodes well for something such as banding. If we never have to get off the sofa to do anything like shopping, working, etc, etc . . . I imagine it will continue to have a detrimental impact on many of our waistlines.

Good afternoon, Violets...

Well, Gramma is back home and Grady's mommy and daddy are back with him. He was kinda stunned when they walked in the door. He kept looking from one to the other, back and forth. Too cute!!!

I brought Ethan back to his daddy and now I'm just relaxing a bit before Choir rehearsal tonight.

Kris brought me a pretty Pandora bead from Hawaii and brought Bob a Hawaiian shirt. I would love to go back there someday.

I think I might have a morning off tomorrow. Joe hasn't had any work all week and if he doesn't tomorrow, then Ethan will stay with him and I'll have all day to get this house back in order and do some grocery shopping. I've been doing great on my eating except for a little slip up yesterday. I had a Klondike bar at Kris's. First ice cream in weeks and weeks. Last one for months and months!!! I've been looking at dresses for May. Never too early to start the quest!!

Off to choir and then dinner with the Bobster and friends. Everyone have a good evening.

Michelle.. loved the pics!!!

Heather...great stats!! I wish I was a successful with the band as you have been. But I'll get there one day.... hopefully by May 15th!!

I'm a Windows girl, too... but dh & the kids are all mac users... they mock me that I'm the nerdly Windows guy & they're the cool Apple dude on the commercials... just one of the unspoken joys of motherhood... having your fam mock you...

I don't think the iPad is a phone... just all the other stuff... music, pictures, videos, e-mail, documents, etc. So I'm confused, too... I thought the idea was to have just 1 tool for everything, and also, to make it smaller/more portable... this seems like it's going the wrong direction size-wise. Hm. Altho it is smaller/lighter weight than a laptop... but not as portable as an iTouch or iPhone. & of course, there'll have to be the "iPouch" to carry it in, w/out making it look like a purse for the dudes... One of the Twitter "jokes" was "if only it was small enough to fit in my pocket... oh wait..." So I dunno... I'm not geeky enough to be all tizzed out about it... but dh was enthralled. & of course they didn't announce what everyone really wanted to know: price & availability date.

After months of rampant speculation, Apple2_bing.gif Wednesday announced a touchscreen tablet computer, the "iPad" for consumers who want to take their movies, TV shows, music, games and reading with them, be it around the house or on the go. Pricing starts at $499, and it should be available in 60 to 90 days.

My investment club has Apple!! We be happy about that!! We also had the baby b's berkshire!! We finally have made good choices!!

On a serious note, I think they have discontinued my cologne. I only have been wearing this for 20+ years. The other cologne I wore was discontinued about 10 years ago. I wear K de Krizia, it has gotten very hard to find over the years, but now!!! Oh my gosh!!! I used to switch between krizia and a fragrance by Borghese, I believe it was Di Borghese? Anyways Ebay here I come!!!

Good morning, Violets..

10 degrees here this morning.. brrrrrrrr!! I went to bed early last night and read a bit, before falling asleep around 10. Got up at 8:30 this morning. This was one pooped Gramma. But nothing on the agenda today except flute rehearsal tonight at 6:30. No babysitting, no traveling, no nuttin.

Janie.. I ran out of my MIL's perfume that I loved and found it on Ebay. You never know what you can find there!

Bob has a meeting out of town this morning, so I'm on my own. Time to get some things done around the house now that I'm here for a bit. Also going to get plane tickets!!

Off to find something for Breakfast. I finished the last of the tuna yesterday.

Hey Girls~

Man, I have not felt well for 2 days. Not sick...but my head hurts. Uggg...I have a meeting all day then getting my color done.

We looked at a few houses last night. I think we are still leaning towards the dream house. I want to sell this one. I have a $650 note on it, and could rent it out for about 12-1400, but then my ins goes up and as 2 of you know...this is an old house (a good one, but old). So, after thisthatandtheother, I wouldn't get much income from it. I'd rather sell it at a "priced to sell" price, then put the extra on the new principal. NO WONDER MY HEAD HURTS. We are rationalizing it this way...this will be our last house...and we are getting up there a bit (Sus will be 47 on March 6th!). Instead of spending our $ on a ton of this and that, we should focus our dollars to our dream. SIGH...I'll keep you posted...let me know if I bore you!!!

Did you see the lady who lived to be 110??? wow!

Janie, I would think the internet, if not just ebay, would be a great place for you to find it. I'd be hella pissed, I LOVE my smellygoods!

Judy, glad they got home ok! I bet Ethan was shocked!!! Do you ever just "sit"? I'd be couch bound after a week w/ a 3 yr old!

Michelle and Haydee, (all the girls) mi casa es su casa...where ever the house is. I'd LOVELOVELOVE to host the next get together AT MY DREAM HOUSE!!!

OK...off to put my face on. I am wearing sweats today...just to sit in a meeting, I don't need to bring my A game!

LOVE you girls!

PamELA... it wasn't Ethan, it was Grady. Well, actually there were days when I had both of them for the day. And yup.. it wore me out. But I'm so thrilled that I can be close enough to be able to help out like I do. I also am loving my alone time today. Just finishing up some blueberries and cream while the first load of laundry "cooks". I have neglected my journal for a few days so need to get back to that.

And for the record.. you could never be boring, PamELa.. not in a gazillion years!!

Good morning!

A slow start, but I'm picking up steam!

Here's a funny sign advertising the night's "specials" at a restaurant on the Island... it's not chicken foot, but maybe it's lost in translation, lol:

Judy, you must have more energy than me. Ayla just about wears me out and you can take on not only Ethan but Grady as well.

Pamela, that house is still awesome. Good luck with whatever decision you make.

Janie, it is too bad about your cologne. I know with me I am really particular and I only like what I like. Thank goodness for the internet where you can find just about anything. :0)

Haydee, how is wedding planning going. Do you have most things already worked out by now?

Have a lovely day everyone!!!

Good day!!

I am being kind of lazy today, not going in til late. Nose is all stuffed up. Got at least one perfume on Ebay. I used to get it on Ebay all the time because it was the cheapest place to get it! I am bummed out!! Now there are no deals on the cologne.

Oh well, I hope you relax today Judy!!!

Pam I think if you want that house you should get it!! As long as all the numbers line up, and especially if this is your last house!!

Michelle, I knew there was a reason I like american food better!!

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
