Hello my name is Stacie and I'm 36 years old. I had my surgery 8/11/08 at Cedars Sinai in LA. I started my journey after struggling with my weight for years. I really started looking into it after I had a miscarriage in Jan 2007 and was not able to get pregnant again so in March of 2008 my dr sent a referral and that is how it started. My weight at my highest in March 08 was 335. The day of my surgery I was 329. I had 2 adjustment in 9/08 and 12/08 at Cedars then got new insurance. Now that my new insurance is in effect and I have a new Dr. with Kaiser in south San Fran I got my 3rd adjustment last friday, and I'm at 274 right now. They recommended me to join this site for support as I have kind of felt left out on my own after my surgery and last adjustment in 12/08 so I'm glad to get some support. I have had a lot happen in the last year, got my surgery, moved to San Jose in 9/08 started a new job so it's been crazy but good all in one. I'm looking forward to make some friends and getting some support and offering support to others:smile2:

Hi Stacie. Welcome to the forum. I live in San Jose and going to Kaiser S San Francisco too! I wish they had a bariatric center in San Jose! I've gone to all the classes and appointments, but still have 10 pounds to reach my goal weight before I can get the surgery. I am trying really hard though, so hopefully soon. You're doing great, 61 pounds! How do you like the care at Kaiser so far? Take care

So far I really like them. After my last fill in Dec at Cedars I haven't heard from them at all. So it really made me happy that I got Kasier and I found them. They are very helpful, provided me with good information and made me feel welcome. Plus I know they are going to be watching me so that makes me behave more, if you know what I mean. I saw Paul on Friday and he was really great and had no issues finding my port. In Dec Cedars took over 30 min to find my port and had issues so I was so nervous about getting another fill, that is one of the reason I waited so long to go again. I wish they had something closer in San Jose but at least South San Fran is not to far. Good luck to you, maybe one day we will run into each other at the office

I'm a Kaiser S. San Francisco patient as well. Does anyone know of any Lapband support groups in the South Bay area preferably San Jose area? Its hard enough to get to my appointments let alone go there for support groups as well.

HI there, I haven't looked for support groups in San Jose yet but it would be very helpful. I was told of the ones up there but you would think there has to be something here. I'm going to look online, if I find anything I will let you know:mad:

We have some things in common... I had the lap band in March 2009. But in Jan 2007 I also had a miscarriage. I think it was because of my weight. I have one daughter and when I became pregnant with her I weighed 160 pounds and had a great pregnancy. I gained so much weight from that pregancy and continued to gain after. I got up to 253 at my highest. I think we are done having children now but I always wonder what may have been if I had been at a healthy weight.... I am very new on this site and I am hoping to find some support from people who have been through it! Its nice to meet you!

Hi Courtney- sorry to hear about your loss as well. I don't believe mine was due to weight as I lost ours when I was 14 weeks pregnant, they did testing but nothing really came up so not really sure. I was around 250 when I had our son so I was big then, but now I need to be healthy to have another and to be there for him. We actually just started the process of going thru fertility dr.'s since we have been trying for 4 1/2 years now. So we shall see we would really like 1 more. Glad you found this site, it has been helpful to me the few weeks I have been here and I hope to continue to get help

Stacie- how have you liked your band so far? I am still getting used to this and I am trying to figure out how in the world to get the water/drink in I need without drinking near my meals.... advice?

I like my band so far. I still have issues with drinking with my meals but I'm trying to do better. Since my Breakfast and lunch are usually the same time each day I try to stop drinking at least an hour before. The biggest thing is try to have your meals around the same time so you can plan your drinking around them and get in your Water and stuff as needed.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
