I'd feel 100 times better if i didnt have this gas pain. its right in the neck/upper shoulder area, and it seems like it just came on today.....i'm doing laps around my living room trying to get rid of it. Is this common? How can i get rid of it......

Personally no gas medicine helped me, walking never helped me either. I was faithful with my pain meds. The doc gave me Oxycodone and although it put me to sleep often it was the only time I felt better, not relief but just better.

Walk! Walk! Walk!

When I had surgery last week and was having gas pains, I took the gas-X strips that dissolve on your tongue. Well my doctor's physician assistant walked in and said that gas-x does NOT work for the CO2 that they pump into you during surgery. He said gas-x only works for gas in the intestines. The only advise I have is to walk, walk, and walk! :frown: Hang in there, it should go away within a couple of days.

I just had my surgery this morning.

The cuts I can handle, the not-bending-over I can handle...this gas pain is nearly overwhelming.

I tried to lay down and my shoulders felt like they were going to explode and it nearly brought me to tears. I feel like I can't find any comfortable position to be in, but walking DOES help temporarily.

How long did this gas pain last for some of you?

I had my surgery on Monday morning and it's the wee hours of Saturday morning now. I have to agree that the gas pains were really worse than about anything else. In the last day or two, the frequency of the pain has decreased. Today, I only remember feeling that sharp pain in the left shoulder maybe twice or three times. It will work its way out eventually and it doesn't seem to have taken all that long. All the best,

Delma

Surgery Date: 8/24

I had surgery yesterday, and I'm taking peppermint Water and using heat pads for the gas pain. It's working pretty well. I just feel REALLY bloated. The peppermint water was recommended by a friend of mine who runs the nursing dept in a hospital. She said either that, or peppermint tea. I take about 15mls as needed.

Walk walk walk

the gas is in your body cavity not your stomach or intestines--gasX may help you, but only for the gas that comes out your ass.

walk walk walk

I honestly thought that taking harder steps, like almost stomping made me feel better. That part may be psychosomatic but walking does help.

Vicodin doesn't hurt either!

hi! I was banded 7/7 and the gas was by far the WORST part of the whole surgery...it would just suddenly feel like i had a knife in my shoulder and it brought me to tears...and it lasted (on and off) for 3 weeks...

I walked... a lot. I also did take the Gas-X strips and it did help...any relief of (or should i say RELEASE of) gas did help the pain in my shoulder...

GOODLUCK! It will get better....

My doc said that some of it may be actual gas left over from surgery in your chest cavity, but he said the more likely culprit is pressure on a nerve. Because of all the internal swelling there is some pressure pushing on a nerve.

Walking helps because it helps overall with blood flow which speeds healing.

I agree that gas strips won't help with this type of pain.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
